Such a beautiful place, thanks for sharing. It was also pleasing to see that so few shops are vacant, as unfortunately lots of our high streets are facing a downturn in retail outlets.
Great to see you are in Stamford another great area of Lincolnshire this yet another nice town to walk around and explore with a lot of awesome local businesses like shops, restaurants, pubs and ETC. Stamford also has some beautiful churches and nice old buildings another great town to walk around until next time Thank You.👋🇬🇧
As a stamfordian I am glad you enjoyed our town and next time you are in the area if you haven't already you should look at asker which is a bakery. In 1835 there were 35 bakeries in Stamford, by 1939 the number had fallen to 17. Askers, with its bake house in King's Mill Lane and shop in Red Lion Street, is now the sole remaining fully independent bakery in Stamford.
November 2024. I lived 13 St Mary,s st. Above what was Philadelphus Jeyes the chemist on the Great North Rd as it then was before the bypass. 5 years mid 1950s. I used to watch big lorries (then) take up to 2 hours turning round the corner by St Mary,s Church and gouging holes out of the bottom of the Church which rang dolefully for ten minutes before 0800 each Sunday. Only a single note about 200 times..The tower was said not to be able to support a full bell cascade. The Public Library was only open to children late Tuesday? And Saturday. I sang in the choir at St Martin,s Church including the funeral of the then Marquis of Exeter c. 1958. Many happy memories but I will stop now.
Love Stamford, although in Cheshire I originally came from Peterborough not far away from Stamford and it's an amazing little place and in my younger days disco nightlife that aged me! And lovely pubs and fantastic market, cheers Neil nice to see it again!
I live in the Midlands which is bland. Love to watch your walks around Lincoln and and Yorkshire. We do have a beautiful country when you get out of the Midlands. I love the way everything is unspolit.... Hopefully one day l will move
I have lived in Stamford all my life and remember the Stork shop being Hawleys Toy Shop in the 80’s when I grew up. I used to love going in there as a kid with my parents, just wish it was still there. Great memories and great video.
I used to go there in the school holidays and stay with my aunt, uncle and cousins , they moved there from Mansfield to run a chippy , great place , some of the family still live there and went recently for a wedding , thinking of moving there myself in future
I've been to Stamford as I had an aunt and uncle who retired there. Sir Malcolm Sargent the conductor came from Stamford and is buried in the cemetery there. A great video of a lovely town.
Wonderful! I often watch your channel, but delighted to see you in my home town - although I live abroad, my Dad still lives there. I was just there last month. Thank you for filming it!!
Further along Bath row is the remains of the castle ( one small wall) the bus station was built on the main site. Some renegade dons and students tried to set up a university in Stamford in the 14 th century but Oxford and Cambridge universities got Edward lll to close it.
Stamford IS exactly as you say it is.a very nice place to walk around.extra places to park...for free is r morrissons just past the old stamford hospital ( yes 2xmeals £12) Or down by water street.2hours but an easy lwap into town. Try Burghley House as a visit as well .
Hello Neil how are you I have been to Stamford magic its a beautiful place my special friend Neil lives there lovely day there there is also barley park and house and a horse trails lovely shops and pubs enjoy best wishes take care stay safe xx ❤😅😅
how I wish you had gone further up St Pauls Street, my old school, had many a sports team photo taken outside the chapel doors. The fair used to come to town on Broad Street and I think The Lord Burleigh used to be The Lincolnshire Poacher, I could be wrong, but there was definitely a pub called that. The church on the High Street was changed from being a church when I was there, 40 plus years ago, I remember the grave stones being moved and the remains exhumed. At least the buildings on the High Street aren't derelict above the ground floor, like so many other places. I remember The Vaults as a pub, also that a Michael Yorke film used part of St Mary's Street, when I was at school. Loved this walk, been really nostalgic and made me feel old!!
My wife’s family are born and bred in Stamford for generations, my wife and her brother were both born there and through the 11+ exams went to the Stamford Girls School and the Stamford boys school on scholarship. The town is great but there aren’t any shops for locals they only seem to cater for those newbies who have moved into the town or have their second homes there. Stamford used to have two large engineering employers who unfortunately no longer exist in the town and the lose of those jobs and money has never been replaced Also a lot of the pubs are long gone…in Broad street there used to be the Lincolnshire Poacher opposite Nelson’s Pie Shop and in Star Lane the Dominoes used to be a pub called the Half Moon…oh the memories any more have also now gone
It’s worth going on a Friday for the market on Broadway, and every other Friday there is also a farmers market in the high street and ironmonger street. Also the Eleanor cross on sheep market and All saints brewery are worth a visit.

Oh honestly it was such a massive WOWWWW!!! moment
I absolutely adore the place!
One reason Stamford has kept its character was that the Burleigh estate used to own most of it

My own town, born there in1948. The A1 used to pass right through the town. It used to have as many churches as public houses.
