A truly wonderful City. And Neil, your camera craft was outstanding. I'm going to have to watch this again and again. With my wife when she gets home. I found some popcorn in the pantry so I'll make her feel like it's a night out at the Cinema. Thanks so very much!
Lincoln is another awesome city to visit and if it has a lot of places to eat and drink at I'm happy, it has a lot of other interesting places to see and some nice scenery along the River Whitham and of course the nice looking buildings, until the next destination thank you. ☕🍩👋🇬🇧
I love visiting Lincoln, I remember going with school for the day in secondary school, and our history teachers took us to stand outside the Manga Carta pub, some people asked could we go into the pub for a quick half of pepsi
This has to rank as the funniest video I have seen from you, it had me saying "come on Neil stop stalling" and I was willing you up Steep Hill, don't know why I was laughing as I have a trip planned soon and am going to need all the help I can get for the ascent of Steep Hill. Another great video. Thank you
What a great video! I'm born & bred Lincoln & still live here. I used to take everything of my City for granted, until later in life. I'm now like a sponge & soak up as much history as I can, when I can. I often become a 'tourist' & spend a good few hours traipsing around the Cathedral quarter. The Oriel window that you showed as you went into the Castle was saved from John of Gaunt's Palace which once stood opposite the Guildhall, which you showed early on, at the lower part of the High Street. Lincoln's copy of the Magna Carta is actually kept in the Castle. It's there to view, in it's own climate controlled room. It's displayed with the 1217 copy of the Charter of the Forest. The only place in the world where both documents can be seen together!
What a fab video showing history that is worth seeing for yourself. My wife now wants us to plan a visit from Canada to see Lincoln, and climb that hill. What have you done to me????????
Had the absolute pleasure of my youngest son’s degree and master’s graduation’s in Lincoln Cathedral. Great city. (I commented on your York vlog a couple of weeks ago about my eldest son’s graduation in York Cathedral). Great vlogs 👍👍
I visited Lincoln many years ago, and walked pretty much that exact walk. Looks to me like it hasn't changed much (and that's good). In the cathedral, someone who worked there told me all sorts of interesting things about the tombs in the actual cathedral. I was looking at a strange thing with a bishop or something underneath a surface, with a skeleton lying on it, and a voice behind me told me the moral idea of the sculpture. "Here I am in life, at the top of the top, but when I die, I, too decay down to just bones". Another tomb (with a carving of a laid-out knight on it, I think) was that of the king's falconer - a very important person in that other world they lived in. It was a tiny bit spooky when the voice first came from behind like that. Just for a moment, before its owner proved to be a kindly looking fellow human. And you could also go out one of the side doors into a cloister which had a Templar Temple on one side of it. It was a fascinating place. Nice to see it again. In that castle it was possible to go into the old prison, which was built partly on the "panopticon" principle - where the prisoner can see only a pulpit (in this case), and could be seen at all times by the preacher. The seats were sloped, so that while they provided some kind of seating, if you fell asleep there, you'd slide off, forward. And there was either the original Lincoln copy of the Magna Carta in glass case in one of the rooms, or a copy of that copy. So much history in one spot! The other thing I remember quite well in the city was the ruins of the Bishop's Palace. Not much remains, but the sheer scale of the thing is an eye opener. I think there was a whole flour mill in the palace, and other "workshop spaces" like that - huge, even by modern town standards. There was a Roman gate, too, but I don't remember it well. So you'd have to go a very long way to find that much history (and scenery, even, because you can see for miles from the walls) in one place, anywhere in Earth.
That hill is steep , had to stop halfway up . Nearly had a connery .🤣 But well worth it . They do a bus service for tourists by the Cathedral , well worth it if you are getting on a bit like me .Goes down to the docks , with a tour guide showing points of intrest . Only a few quid and it lasts for two days , so no hill 👍
Great video , but I'm trying to figure out when it was filmed . Maybe spring ? I like to go online and look at the weather details on the day in question . Thanks anyway for your awesome videos .

This brings back memories, I lived in the city of Lincoln for 3 years, and that hill was brutal!
The top of Lincoln near the cathedral and the castle never changes!
True!

I remember when they had a cinema by the station just over the railway crossing where St marks is now.
Gloucester is similar to lincoln in how its laid out and has a small church that does free tea and coffee!
Can confirm it is a VERY steep hill! But well worth it. I would climb it every day with a reward at Bells Tea Rooms of course. :)
Totally agree!
Great video , but I'm trying to figure out when it was filmed . Maybe spring ? I like to go online and look at the weather details on the day in question . Thanks anyway for your awesome videos .
Yes it was back in the spring this one!
@@GimbalWalkTV Thanks .

I don’t think I dare look
Steep hills scare me now 🤣
