What a lovely place! Slaw was distraught that you walked straight past Adnams without picking up some Ghost Ship 😱Mark’s face when he realised what day it was 😂 Love those rope lights in the pub 😍 That fruit cake was just missing a slice of Wensleydale for perfection 👍🏻 I could have spent a fortune in the vintage shop! So many memories ❤️ Thanks for taking us with you on your adventures. We love a good adventure 😉🚍☀️
the lady that served us mentioned a bit of cheese for the cake mark went green 🤢🤮🤣 the little vintage shop was amazing but that doll freaked me out so i was out of there 🤣
The building across from the Corn Exchange is Browne's Hospital an almshouse. It was founded in 1845 by a wealthy local wool merchant to originally house 12 poor men & 12 poor women.
The price of those fish and chips had me choking but Stamford looks so quaint and pleased you enjoyed your visit. That needle sharp monument is, as you said, Eleanor's Cross, but was the winning entry in a competition to find a piece of civic art for Stamford in 2008. It is a homage to Stamford’s original Eleanor Cross. The history of the monument began when, in 1290, Eleanor of Castille who had been born in 1244 into Spanish royalty, the much cherished wife of King Edward I who he married when she was just 13, died in Harby, Nottinghamshire whilst on a tour of their kingdom. Edward was so grief stricken that he could not leave Harby for 3 days. He lead a funeral procession 200 miles back to london and, along the way, he commissioned 12 carved stone monuments to be built at each resting place to commemorate Eleanor. The cortege made an overnight stop approximately every 20 miles on the very long journey (12 stops - at Lincoln, Grantham, Stamford, Geddington, Hardingstone near Northampton, Stony Stratford, Woburn, Dunstable, St Albans, Waltham, Westcheap, and Charing Cross). Apparently only 3 Crosses survived but, unfortunately, Stamford's monument wasn't one of them so this tall spire took it's place and erected in 2009.
Those fish and chips were expensive! I actually thought you meant £20 for you both! I’m now googling the Eleanor Crosses because I used to work in Trafalgar Sq and often wondered why Charring Cross wasn’t cross shaped but never got round to checking! Thanks for sharing another interesting video.

There is 4 Chinese takeaways on Stamford bit only open at 16.30. The Hong Kong is the most expensive on town and had Just a hygiene rating of 0 😒
