The BKA and the DBF are two completely different associations. While DBF is used to players being at least semi-independent and have no issues with professional players registering to tournaments, the BKA operates much more similarly to the CBA and PBSI in a sense that they seem to "frown" on independent / professional players
This Olympics is full of surprises. My prediction is for MS Viktor to meet Shi Yu Qi in the final and for WS ASY to meet CYF. Unexpectedly, Shi had to be thrown out of Thailand and this was really a big surprise. Another surprise came, where TTY was eliminated by Intanon and surprisingly Gregoria Mariska Tunjung made it to the semifinals and won a bronze medal. Something you never thought of before, truly full of surprises😱
During the interval at 11 in the semi finals Viktor actually said to his coach (in Danish) "he is playing better than me". So.. He had some nerve there 😰
I thought you were pretty bold and brave to do what you did. IMO the women's singles, doubles and mixed doubles' gold medalists were easy to predict!! But the rest were very hard for me to predict because in sports, anything could happen!!! So i think you did very well.
I felt that both level doubles disciplines were absolutely wide open. Essentially, almost any pair in the top six/seven are capable of beating any other pair. I also thought that Reddy and Shetty would get further and it just didn't happen on the day. For England fans, I would also point out that Lane and Vendy absolutely turned up and punched above their weight. In the women's doubles I thought Matsuyama and Shida would make the final when the draw opened up for them but, again, were let down by a lackluster performance in the semi and it cost them dearly. The irony is that, come the bronze play off, they were like a force of nature and dominated the match. That is the governing factor in doubles right now: pairs are only as good as their last performance and one sub optimal performance is enough to end their tournament. It's not enough just to avoid having a bad game, now these pairs have to avoid even having even an average one.
Victor was the most dominant gold medalist until Mondo's wr later that night. To bad Lakshya couldn't medal. He was the standout of the tournament. I loved that Michelle Li was back to top form after her injury and was so close to win against Yamaguchi. Also you could see that cyf was off, in the group she was in real trouble against Mia Blichfeldt. That would have been a fantastic upset. Great tournament overall.
Since you mentioned LoH in passing, let me just add a brief observation- Loh generally plays very well against the Chinese players. He likes to play a fast flat game and it seems that the Chinese are uncomfortable with that. Shi Yu Qi can handle that much better though.
Well done young man, overall. The other small trivia you can note is that while the men’s singles & men’s doubles winners retained their gold, the women’s doubles & mixed doubles winners were also finalists last time & actually went one better. It was only the women’s singles medallists who were all different this time!!
Never thought laksya sen is a dark horse when I look at the draw because Jonathan was always failed to perform well in big tournaments, old chou and sick prannoy had no chance to defeat this young man
vikor didnt seem that happy after winning hold this time.. maybe the match was too easy for him . Kunlavut completely gave up nearing the end of the 2nd set, he was grinning like a fool. decent effort towards the end, but not even close to enough. great video as always, ben!
Viktor was very happy, did u not see him leg it around the stadium with the flag?! Kunlavut I think knew it wasn't his day and just wanted to enjoy an Olympic final. With his age and ability he could find himself back there again in 4 years
@@BenBeckmanBadminton im thinking kunlavut was more than happy to settle for silver. considering his age and the way he plays at big tournaments i confer that he'll be back at the next Olympics. shame about lakshya and shi though. would you be open to making a video on what the Indian team needs to do in order to get medal at the next Olympics considering they felt short this time
I would like to point out that smiling in Thailand sometimes has different connotation comparing to other cultures (especially western). In this case, it doesn’t mean giving up or anything, but rather shows his intention to fight. The word “ยิ้มสู้ (fighting smile)“ has been officially documented in the dictionary of Thai royal society and this emphasizes the role of this particular smiling manner in the culture. I would say it is the same as shouting after winning a point that is prevalent in badminton matches. You might notice that the Thais show less shouting and more smiling.
This just goes to show Olympic pressure is different. Yes head to head record or super series record have some reference value but it by no means is a perfect indicator.
@@BenBeckmanBadmintonI never think of Lakshya sen and Lee zii jia can to enter Semifinal. It's because both Antonsen and Chou tien Chen were more consistent. Its a surprise that Shi yuqi , Li shi feng and kodai didn't perform as they usually did.
I honestly only watched Tunjung vs An Seyoung. I was too upset w the underperformed results by the Indonesian players. I made the app subscription 5 mins before the Tungjung match, she lost but it was well fought. Will be revisiting the finals in a few days.
shiyuqi has a lot of pressure on him.But I still think there are two reasons why he failed .First, his preparation to the difficulty is so little.Second, of course pressure from China, because he performed so well before olympics and become World No1, so everyone want him to get achievement like Lindan and Chenlong. So it cause that he did not know how to control his ability before Olympics and did not have the correct thought about Olympics
@@DanDan-li4hr fun fact, same thing happened to the malaysian pair (i think it was SWY) in the last rally against the Danes. Strings broke and they continued to play that crazy rally.
My favourite mens singles players are (in order) 😂: 1. Ng Tze Yong (sad to not see him so much now) 2. Viktor Axelsen 3. Lee Zii Jia 4. Kento Momota 5. Kunlavut vitidsarn 6. Lee chong wei 7. Lin dan Loll
Why everyone so bitter when Tunjung got bronze. She well well deserved of that medal. She carried the whole Indonesian badminton on R16. That was not easy when we talk about how great Indonesia badminton on Olympic
Rally feel bad that Carolina Marin cant go to the final because of the injury but what can she do,it was written by the god. Really want to see An Se Young vs Carolina Marin in the final. If Carolina Marin win the gold medal, she would be the greatest of all time badminton player in woman singles, she can surpassed Zhang Ning achievement. So,my conclusion is it could be Axelsen(Men Single) and Carolina Marin(Woman Single),the 2 single from europe could be the greatest in their badminton category but yes Marin did not win Uber Cup and Sudirman Cup also Axelsen did not win Sudirman Cup. Correct me if I'm wrong Ben.Whats your opinion about it?
There is more to GOAT than purely achievements although it plays a huge role. It's because of that that we see a lot of people not really liking the whole GOAT discussion. For me had Marin won she would be the most decorated for sure, but GOAT I don't think many would let her have that title. For Viktor, he still has some years left and if he can win a few more majors maybe he could be considered. But to knock off LD, that's a difficult job because he was seen by many as perfect
Geez my math is so bad it's only 66,6% apparently 🤣 I do count the semifinalist too though The next video idea is probably who do you think will retire after this 2024 season? I feel like Hendra Setiawan is coming up 😢..
Broo during the bronze match for men's doubles,I was supporting team Malaysia zin the third set,I was doing five pushups for every point Malaysia got 😂
Just a recap In your previous video : 1. You also mentioned that you were not expecting any upset in this edition’s Olympics . I disagreed and no reply from you after that . Well , you were wrong about that . 2. You totally discounted the Malaysians. The only country out of top 5 that didn’t make it to your list . You probably didn’t expect them to do this well . I am glad that my players proved you wrong . Well done to Malaysia albeit only two bronze medals . Well, you didn’t expect Malaysian to advance to the semi-finals , let alone the podium anyway . Ahsan and Angus Ng definitely did a better job with their predictions . Cheers
I never said I wasn't expecting any upsets. Just less than Tokyo because of the weird run into those Games. There were still upsets as we expect at these majors but when u consider only 1 event was won by someone not seeded 1 or 2 and we had 4 finals with repeat finalists then it went almost to script. But still upsets (which again I never doubted). But you're right about Malaysia, their best hopes were in the men's events which were also the hardest to predict. Either way great performance by them
@@leob4403 Angus- I remember it was an interview by TVB Sports Hong Kong right before the Olympics started . As for Ahsan , I really cannot recall whether it was through Twitter , Instagram or FB .

Really not bad for a start. In hindsight Kunlavut looked pretty obese and proved it during the final. Please don't expect any crocodile tears for Marin. Injuries are common and without them we would have had little trouble picking Tao and even Momota... One thing I never saw Victor so imperious but hey, that man-child is unpredictable...
Maybe one on one interviews with current and past international players ? Honestly I think long interviews on TH-cam are missing . Plus less work for you on editing footage hopefully
I'd love to do more stuff like this. As I get bigger n more players get to know me and my content I'll likely reach out. I have a few contacts already which could make for great interviews/videos
yes likewise kinda same prediction some upsets were like mixed china feng yan zhe dong pin, then the world champion korean mixed pair for women double, both korean didnt live up to expectation men double yes chirag shetty india pair could possibly win the gold then men single shi yuqi is big upset and li shi feng also expect to shine but didnt and women single, tzu ying n chen yufei didnt live up to expectation but all in all i would predict jiayifan china world no 1 and zheng siwei yaqiong also world no 1 to steal the title for ladies single and men single obviously my choice is se young and axelson while the hardest to predict men double champion i would pick wang chang liang wei kang or india chirag shetty so for titles 4/5
Your predictions were pretty on point considering the unpredictable nature of sport! Good job! Also, it's a shame about Marin, but I think An-Se Young was winning the final no matter who was against her. She was in great form. I did tell you not to sleep on Lee Zii Jia... Viktor's performance was nearly as dominant as 2008 Lin Dan. Vitidsarn had schooled Shi YuQi and Lee Zii Jia, he was easily the 2nd best player there, and Viktor went and made him look like a silly little boy who had never picked up a racket before, leading 18-5 at one point... flawless from Viktor tbh. He made Vitidsarn look like a complete idiot in that final! I think everyone knew Zheng and Huang would win the mixed doubles. They're just too good! Now we just need someone prepared to make badminton content in your absence until you get back... lol...
Viktor's final performance was just perfect. Really bloody good! Hahaha, yeah, I've seen some channels making badminton content so maybe check them out. Or just wait for me to return haha
For me, the men's double is the perfect demo that designating a "champion" through a single tournament, moreover with a single play-off bracket, is a non-sense at this level. And that's why a world tour exists. Same problem goes for the world champion, it's just a tournament winner, of a particular tournament ; nothing more. Internation federation, BWF, IOC, etc. should think of another tournament format for those special events. For example : add a lower bracket after group stage, make a group for the final 4, ...
That is unnecessary and not what most sports do. Because certain events are top tier ones , athletes will plan their training season to peak at those moments. That is why you do not see super 1,000 tournaments near the World champs and Olympics. Prioritizing this events makes them special too.
Again nice video. Enjoy your break Loh K Y did make VA tremble during their match. He manage to show us some of VA's weaknesses. However VA manage to compose himself and end up winning that match. In regards to Malaysians... no worries on that. There are alot of Malaysians slaying their own players too. But I can say that the Malaysian mixed doubles surprised us with their plays. I feel that they will go far moving foward. As for the Double's Champ... they played solidly through out the games. I would rather win another Gold and not win the other tournaments for one year. hahah. At least people will not shine light on them. I do agree with you in regards to Kunlavut ... another Taufik. Too bad he didnt manage to put a good show during the finals. VA was playing his usual game. Kunlavut didnt manage to capitalise on the momentum. Being said that.. great work again. My fingers need to go on holiday now. :)

Thank you for the amazing throughout this time!
With every Olympics comes a chance to see the next generation or the previous "new generation" really hit their stride. I may look into players to look out for over the next 4 year Olympic cycle
Love the ending. Happy Holidays.
Thanks 😊
Congrats!!! Especially for drinking Korean Soju!!! I understand though. :D
Your predictions aside, I have my huge and smaller grief filled moments. Hope we have new chance in 2028, etc.
Your predictions seem like 30% where I wanted them, 5% came true. Thnak you.. The reviews and predictions and all sorts of comments were awesome! Rest easy.. and don't tell me the drinking choice is a hint for the vacation plans??!!
The soju has no ties to my holiday plans I just really like it and needed a drink so there you go.
And thank you, I'm sorry that 30% wishing didn't equate to 30% success. Next time in 2028 🫡🙌🏻
18:46 damn ! I love ASY speaking up for herself . She has seen VA’s path and hopefully can see this through her way
🙌🏻
The BKA and the DBF are two completely different associations. While DBF is used to players being at least semi-independent and have no issues with professional players registering to tournaments, the BKA operates much more similarly to the CBA and PBSI in a sense that they seem to "frown" on independent / professional players
Korean badminton assosiation pulled ASY out from coming 2 tournaments, one of which is her home tournament Korean Open.
@@leongchoongwah I think this has more to do with her getting the proper treatment for her knee than any backlash for her words
The Malaysians might’ve gotten more motivated to actually perform better after seeing you not pick them in any category 🤣
If I had that effect then I'd be incredibly flattered. It isn't true though hahaha
You r right lakshya is underdog in the Olympics, wishing all the way to win All England for 🏆prakash sir💯🙏✌🙌
During the interval at 11 in the semi finals Viktor actually said to his coach (in Danish) "he is playing better than me".
So.. He had some nerve there 😰
No need to apologize Ben. Everyone can have their opinions & favoritism.
Proud with our 🇲🇾 athletes.
😊🙌🏻
I thought you were pretty bold and brave to do what you did. IMO the women's singles, doubles and mixed doubles' gold medalists were easy to predict!! But the rest were very hard for me to predict because in sports, anything could happen!!! So i think you did very well.
Yeah it could have ended badly but I thought, why not. Lucky for me it came out OK haha
It was overall a really great prediction!
Thanks, I was pretty pleased
Victor was the most dominant gold medalist until Mondo's wr later that night. To bad Lakshya couldn't medal. He was the standout of the tournament. I loved that Michelle Li was back to top form after her injury and was so close to win against Yamaguchi. Also you could see that cyf was off, in the group she was in real trouble against Mia Blichfeldt. That would have been a fantastic upset. Great tournament overall.
So truly about Michelle! and both Li and Mia taking a game off from Chen in the group stages was a sign of her form.
Since you mentioned LoH in passing, let me just add a brief observation- Loh generally plays very well against the Chinese players. He likes to play a fast flat game and it seems that the Chinese are uncomfortable with that. Shi Yu Qi can handle that much better though.
Always expect something from malaysian when it’s come to Olympic Ben😅 eventho we dont have lcw anymore 😂
Noted for next time 🙌🏻👍🏻
Well done young man, overall. The other small trivia you can note is that while the men’s singles & men’s doubles winners retained their gold, the women’s doubles & mixed doubles winners were also finalists last time & actually went one better. It was only the women’s singles medallists who were all different this time!!
TTY tries her best in every play, hope she will recover quickly and get back on the court.
🙌🏻
She is retiring.
Never thought laksya sen is a dark horse when I look at the draw because Jonathan was always failed to perform well in big tournaments, old chou and sick prannoy had no chance to defeat this young man
RAHHHHHHHH no matter what anyone says,if there's Malaysian's in a match,I will always be supporting team MALAYSIA ❤❤🎉🎉🎉
vikor didnt seem that happy after winning hold this time.. maybe the match was too easy for him .
@@BenBeckmanBadmintonI think maybe he was expecting the Tokyo reaction from Viktor, where he broke down in tears
When I first look at the video thumbnail, it looked like Lee Yang, Wang Chi Lin, Zheng Si Wei, and Huang Ya Qiong are all taking selfies together 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 it does
This just goes to show Olympic pressure is different. Yes head to head record or super series record have some reference value but it by no means is a perfect indicator.
Hi Ben. Actually your prediction is quite accurate.
Turned out OK in the end. If only I'd picked some Malaysians haha
Aya did her thing. Proud of her, hope her coaches zero in on strength training and energy transfer technique
Wang chi-lin got super lucky in the gold medal match point the strings broke when he smash and it didn't fail
@@DanDan-li4hr fun fact, same thing happened to the malaysian pair (i think it was SWY) in the last rally against the Danes. Strings broke and they continued to play that crazy rally.
I got every category right except men's doubles.
sorry. I meant the gold medals. not other results.
An se yong is the only favourite palyer to win Olympic gold
Zheng/Huang? Chen/Jia? They were probably the heaviest favourites in their disciplines
I'm Happy Tunjung give you a score ben hahaha
🤣
Best video
😊🙌🏻
Literally cried watching Marin get hurt. She was gonna go to the final . And I’m not a Marin fan
My favourite mens singles players are (in order) 😂:
1. Ng Tze Yong (sad to not see him so much now)
2. Viktor Axelsen
3. Lee Zii Jia
4. Kento Momota
5. Kunlavut vitidsarn
6. Lee chong wei
7. Lin dan
Loll
Would love to hear your opinions on over/under achievers for each discipline or in general.
Men singles was kinda random for runner up and second runner up 😅
Why everyone so bitter when Tunjung got bronze.
@@BenBeckmanBadminton Great explaination Ben,thank you👌
lakshya sen deserved medal . He has shown brilliant fighting sprit👏
He had a great tournament. 4th place is such a horrible place to come
I’ve notice the medal standing of Chinese Taipe but I saw only 1 Gold medal
Men’s Doubles is Gold
Women’s Singles is Gold as well
Geez my math is so bad it's only 66,6% apparently 🤣
I do count the semifinalist too though
The next video idea is probably who do you think will retire after this 2024 season?
I feel like Hendra Setiawan is coming up 😢..
🤣🤣🤣 it was close to being higher and yeah with semifinalists maybe higher but not sure 90% haha
Broo during the bronze match for men's doubles,I was supporting team Malaysia zin the third set,I was doing five pushups for every point Malaysia got 😂
That's a lot of pushups
Lmao Kakashi's dog Pakkun and Naruto's Gamatatsu watching over you
Hahaha, nice spot 😋
Could you please analyse the Olympic final matches once you can show the videos?
Maybe I will
Ben, we forgive you for overlooking our M'sian players😂😂3 sectors to be exact😅
🤣
Just a recap
In your previous video :
Either way great performance by them
Wait where did Ahsan and Angus release their predictions?
@@leob4403 you need to search . I don’t keep the source links . Apologies
@@jenjen8705 can you remember the context though, like was it a TH-cam video, a Instagram post, a news article etc
@@leob4403 Angus- I remember it was an interview by TVB Sports Hong Kong right before the Olympics started . As for Ahsan , I really cannot recall whether it was through Twitter , Instagram or FB .
Indonesia team played far more worse then ever in this olympics.
It wasn't their best. Tunjung saved the day
Soju Ben? Drinking the tears of team Korea? 🤔😆😆😆
🤣
Other player should wait for viktor retirement if want gold
Mat saleh ni x sebut langsung team kita kat video prediction dia. Last2 kita dpt 2 pingat. Kalay la lzj dgn chiasoh msk final, n salah satu mng, pencen mat saleh ni jd analyst
R u okay? Do u need help?
Why is Viktor a man-child?
Biggest disappointments of this Olympics were Lee Soo Hee and Baek HaNa they were sure shot medalists..Their performances were pretty awful
They really didn't live up to expectations
Maybe one on one interviews with current and past international players ? Honestly I think long interviews on TH-cam are missing . Plus less work for you on editing footage hopefully
I'd love to do more stuff like this. As I get bigger n more players get to know me and my content I'll likely reach out. I have a few contacts already which could make for great interviews/videos
yes likewise kinda same prediction
some upsets were like mixed china feng yan zhe dong pin, then the world champion korean mixed pair
for women double, both korean didnt live up to expectation
men double yes chirag shetty india pair could possibly win the gold
then men single shi yuqi is big upset and li shi feng also expect to shine but didnt
and women single, tzu ying n chen yufei didnt live up to expectation
but all in all
i would predict jiayifan china world no 1 and zheng siwei yaqiong also world no 1 to steal the title
for ladies single and men single obviously my choice is se young and axelson
while the hardest to predict men double champion i would pick wang chang liang wei kang or india chirag shetty
so for titles 4/5
Lot's of change coming to the women's singles , seems like TY and Marin may retire .
Told you Malaysian will go home with atleast some medals ❤
Should have listened
Or just wait for me to return haha
no need to apologise, that’s was just your opinion ✌️
✌🏻🙌🏻
However, Kunlavut Vitidsarn is still the legend of Thai people cause this is the first olympic medal of Thailand badminton history.
😊🙌🏻
Again nice video. Enjoy your break
Loh K Y did make VA tremble during their match.
was that Soju product placement? lol
Hahaha, it was needed after the last month or so 😅
You cant expect laksha sen he made semifinal bca of hand pain he lost match

And who the hell could make 100% predictions for Olympics? How are you supposed to know that Marin will go out with injury and so on
Koreans other Ang SY, rest performed poorly. Marin would have gives Ang SY a close final fight. I picked Lee SH & Bae HN to win women doubles gold.
Kim/Jeong did well too reaching final but they did lose twice in group. Would agree otherwise
Mens singles were the biggest disappointment of these games, they didn't live up to the closely contested matches of the likes of Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei and Chen Long.
Great picks by the way, maybe you should start buying lottery tickets😆
Picking numbers on the lottery is completely random. These picks were based on knowledge of the sport not random
Also Chen Long also lost in straight games to axelsen in Tokyo finals
