I'm amazed nobody mentioned the Sims 4 "My first pet stuff" a DLC that required Cats and dogs to use the entire DLC. It was literally a DLC that had content locked behind a different DLC
If we're going to go down that road, then we might as well classify the entire Sims 4 series as nothing but terrible DLC that a greedy publisher had the audacity to charge money for.

compared to 1, 2, and 3, sims 4 itself is just a shitty dlc that requires other dlcs. seriously, sims 4 vanilla is ass and has like half the content 1, 2, or 3 had in their vanilla states.
Oh one more thing, “My First Pet Stuff” should be renamed to “My Second Pet Stuff” because your first pet stuff you can buy is literally Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack.

yep...not a CoD guy, but if I was, I TOTALLY would have bought that. $5 to add some wholesome laughs into an experience crammed full of over-caffeinated 12 year-olds screaming slurs? Yes please.

That last comment about Cyberpunk is so true... I finished the game and got the sad epilogue but the mood was broken because my character, in the ONLY SCENE set in third person, randomly lost their pants :/

I would debate the Granny DLC, I find it absolutely hilarious thinking about an old grandma talking smack/announcing in game events, even offering me sweets, if I had that option in the games I play I would seriously debate buying it just because the thought of Granny talking about in game events would amuse me to no end.

I was thinking the same. When I grew up, my dad used to play video games with us. Mostly multiplayer games and such. I remember in MoH European Assault he would always choose the blonde german woman because she screamed to ridiculously. Same concept.
The grandma voice seems infinitely superior to any of the celebrity voice packs you can buy.
Meanwhile, it made me realize that I very much want Jane Douglas voice packs in my games.

I never played the game (the genre isn't my cup of tea) but a bunch of my friends played it and complained about the publisher getting greedy forcing the devs to hide the full game behind a paywall. Was it almost like a completely new game with hours of game play or was it a few hours added in to give a conclusion to the game since the sequel was canceled? If its the second I guess the studio got bad publicity due to being caught up in the height of public outrage over micro transactions and freemium pay to win games
@@emanuelmartinez7267 I know this comment is old but for anyone who might see this the dlc was the second type of scenario. The dlc in question added four extra chapters about 2 or so extra hours of content that to my knowledge was a condensed version of what they had intended for the sequel. To it’s credit it was well done and I’d say was worth the money and at least personally I am willing to cut the devs some slack given the circumstances since at least it meant we got the conclusion rather than the series just ending without that content ever seeing the light of day.
I used to think that selling the true endings of some games as DLC was the lowest certain companies could stoop to, but that was until Konami had the nerve to charge additional save files as DLC for Metal Gear Survive

The Saboteur's DLC was a result of EA's "Every game MUST have an Online Pass" policy at the time, putting an Online Pass in a single player game. It's even worse than Oblivion's Horse Armor because the gold-plated car you can win is absolutely useless.
Stop blaming EA about something everyone does and they weren't even the first to do it. Their last star wars game has zero micro transactions and players complaining that the game had nothing to buy on it. I hate people mentioning EA about season pass when ubisoft call of duty and overwatch did it first and fortnite made it normal.
EA only received backlash for selling items that were not just cosmetic but actually gave you an advantage in battlefront. You dont even know why the fuck you are mad at EA.

As a nod to the horse armor DLC, the devs behind Kingdom of Loathing introduced a "Horsery contract" for the game, which included a steam key for a horse armor DLC for their other game, West of Loathing. The armor does absolutely nothing on West of Loathing, as your horse doesn't fight, but gives useful bonuses on KoL, based on which horse you rent.

I remember The Saboteur. If you bought the game new it came with the code for the 'Midnight Show'. At the time it seemed like the developers were trying to use it to get people to buy a new copy rather than a used one from Gamestop or wherever.
yeah it was like those EA online passes and other codes that they started doing, I remember Skate 3 i think locked a good chunk of its replay editing suite behind a five dollar code that came free with a new copy, Battlefield 3 not only had a 10 dollar online pass but also a map pack that was free to people who bought it new. as shitty as it was then, its nothing compared to the monetization practices these days, i would give my left nut to return to at least those days.

If I _was_ still somewhat into CoD these days, I might have legitimately been tempted to get that voice pack. But I don't own the game, so oh well. It's exactly what it says on the tin, and that's a wonderful thing.
Also, on the topic of the Saboteur, the reason the nudity is locked behind a paywall is a ratings thing. The game was originally intended to have it in vanilla, but the various video game rating/censorship organizations were quite unhappy with that idea. So they sort of exploited a loophole which allows DLC content to be rated independently of its core game, which is why you'll occasionally see games nowadays that have blood and gore effects as an external, downloadable thing on the online store rather than being a toggle switch in the options menu like most games. That way they don't have to make any alterations to the core game files depending on regional censorship, they can just not make that external file pack available to certain markets.
not at all saying your wrong, just genuinely curious as to what games you've seen lock blood and gore behind a DLC. i can sorta see it maybe working for like Fallout 3 and its drug names or something but ive never come across a game that makes you download the violence lol. ive only ever seen the menu toggle like in CoD or in the case of really old PC games, a toggle in the install window.
Some of the more modern total war games have had the “blood and gore” DLC.
how about the DOA "hair color change"? Where you had to pay to change the color but if you wanted to change it back, you had to pay again. Sure they changed it eventually, but still.

The very concept of 1-time-use DLC is infuriating.
I remember Deus Ex: Mankind Divided had a preorder bonus that you could use exactly once ever. If you decided to replay the game later, the bonus content was just gone.
I don't even preorder games and I still refused to buy it until the price dropped to 20$.

I would only consider it worth it if it made large birds major pets. It would be WELL worth it, even as DLC *for* DLC, if it finally did rhat.
@@BJGvideos Yeah even with the DLC on the DLC it had fewer pet options than Sims 3. You can't even interact with the fish. I had to get a mod so my vampire could interact with his goldfish (yes he has a goldfish and yes it's next to his casket- but the fish in Sims 4 never age or die so I guess it's an appropriate pet for an immortal)
How about how many of the Sims 4 expansion packs have added in content that was base game content in Sims 2 or 3? No pools or toddlers at launch? Carl's Sim Guides did a good video on it about a month ago.

Metal gear survive had the absolute gall to make an extra save slot be DLC. The saving grace being that nobody who went near Metal gear survive enjoyed it enough to want another save slot, but still.

I like the concept but the animation is really weird. Like it feels like a manga with a few animated scenes thrown in rather than a fully animated show. I like the art style and everything but that fact bothers me..
In any other game, I feel like the Like a Dragon DLC would have been obvious what they meant because a lot of games sell music like that for in game. But, in a game that has a well received and long standing karaoke side game that everyone loves?! OOF! That one had to sting.
One that annoys me is how a lot of DLC doesn’t go on sale so many years later, like I need a single DLC pack to complete COD MW3 and 10 years later that is still £10 and I only need it to complete the achievements on spec ops

@@cyber_xiii3786 100%. If publishers don't want to be reasonable, gray market it is. Dawn of War game was listed at like $50 on Steam when I bought it, which is fucking absurd for a game released almost two decades ago. I got it for like $7 on one of those sites.
(I technically even got it for free lmao, because my bank auto-blocked the charge after they already sent the key, and nobody responded to my email telling them what had happened and to try the charge again since I'd cleared it with my bank.)
funny you mention CoD (and Activision/Blizzard by extension), as they are the actual worst for this. most other publishers are at least slightly more reasonable but they charge like 40 bucks for games that are 10 plus years old and easily found at a local used shop for less than 5. for example, i found a near mint steelbook of CoD MW2 for PS3 with all the manuals and such included for the exact same price as they STILL charge for that game new on steam (20 bucks) not to mention the fact that to complete MW2 on steam with all its map packs, youd be spending 50 USD, just 10 dollars less than it was BRAND FUCKING NEW in 2009.

They've mentioned that you can dump then in deep freezers, which are air tight and freezing. I suppose if the victim actually wakes up they'll probably survive because they'll be able to get out, but it's one of the worst places you can put an unconscious person you intend to spare.

Railroad Simulator deserves an honorable mention for sheer quantity alone. With 569 add-on DLCs to purchase, it'll set you back US$8.5k to buy every train and rail line.

I'm guessing people who are super into model trains rationalize it by the fact that if they built a real model, it would cost ten times as much and take up space they don't have. I can't think of any other reason to spend that much unless eSports includes competitive train sims

Fun Fact: In Shenmue 2 Lucky Hit was all but random, once you found a good location you could reliably hit it every time. Made getting money really easy.
I can't speak to all of Snoop Dogg's military combat experience, but I do know that he fought for New York.

Number 5 kinda reminds me of how, in the latest Tales of games, you can just buy all the things you'd normally pick from the "New Game + shop" (a menu where you spend points for your NG+, said points being awarded depending on your accomplishments in the walkthrough you just finished, for anyone not knowing). Somehow it kinda pisses me off to see that because you can just throw 20€ to the store and basically kill any and all insentive to replay a good JRPG multiple times over the next months/years...

fairly sure there are multiple sims 4 dlc's that fit this list. like 'my first pet stuff' or the 'bust the dust kit'.
sims 4 itself requires like 4 DLCs at least to be remotely as fun as the last 3 were vanilla, it itself fits this list.
Sims 5 will probably have wire frame rendering out of the box, textures will be DLC. Extra for shaders.
I found this channel at the beginning of 2020, after my father had died young, my depression was at a high and I didn't think I was going to last long. I'm still watching, and I get chills thinking about it. I live in honor of my father, and his house. My house. My depression is much smaller.. the management one in like a dragon is really good. and it actually rewards you for being the best. if you can make it to the top and do it repeatedly once your there. thats 3 mil in the bank and it makes it really easy yet slightly tedious for to reach those money goals.

Project Diva Mega Mix plus had a similar thing to the Resident Evil 3 unlock DLC. It unlocked all the outfits and accessories that you had Miku and her friends wear, meaning the whole diva points that you get was left unless. When I bought it, it automatically came with my game, so when I played for the first time on my PC, I was left sad that I couldnt go through the effort of saving up the points to buy out all outfits like I had done previously.

I was so close to buying that karaoke set and I’m so glad I decided to research it first.
In regards to the Unlock All Items DLC for Resident Evil, i absolutely bought it for RE2. I don't have the amount of free time anymore to devote to hitting 100% in games. With work, i barely get 2 hours a day if I'm lucky. Being able to unlock all of the cool stuff and play thru it when I can was really fun for me. Didn't take away from the story or experience at all for me.

The ending of Village is simple, some huge monstrosity attacks, you shoot it, it mutates and you shoot it again. It dies.
The sims 4 pet stuff pack. That was pretty much an insult to our intelligence, and wallets. Charging for what should've been in the original cats & dogs pack, was just such a moneygrab - nobody were happy with EA (and the recent Star Wars Pack sure didn't help- yikes).

@@MrSniperfox29 Agreed. It shouldn't take 12 expansion packs to get all the content the game will offer, especially for the things that were in the previous game and it's expansions. I understand if they can't add in EVERYTHING from the previous game and it's expansion packs but I would at least expect a sprinkling of content from all the previous game's expansion packs in the base game with the rest of the expansion packs content being readded with 2 or 3 expansions at the most. Then add new stuff from there.
Aside from the lack of the open world I saw zero reason to get the Sims 4 at all after having Sims 3 and most of it's expansions already. Sims 4 was a massive downgrade in gameplay even before the lack of the previous game's content is considered. Having to rebuy all the expansion content was just the final nail in the coffin.

Here's one more: The Weapon X Arena for the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" game. Basically just a test stage and I wouldn't be surprised if it actually just was something the devs build to test the game mechanics that was than added as a paid DLC by Activision. There were a few rooms, one where could spawn enemies and decide which body part should fall off, one where you could spawn to spawn enemies to fight and kill with evironmental objects, one where could just spawn every enemy type to fight in any combination and one was a combat challenge.
How dirty did you feel spending money on these DLC:s for the capture? 😉

The Saboteur's Midnight Show was free if you bought a new copy close enough to the launch date. I think they mentioned you get a few extra hiding spots with the DLC, along with the nakedness.

I actually loved the Resident Evil 3 all rewards add on. I started gaming again after almost 10 years back when the pandemic started and it was perfect for me to just sit down and enjoy a game I used to love without struggling 😇
Except this sort of thing used to usually be done through a free cheat code in the games from back in the before-days. Charging money for it is absurd.
It's especially useful as a parent that doesn't have the time or patience to learn to play an RE game perfectly anymore.
I'll fully admit I bought the reward unlocks for RE 2. But only after I played through the campaign a few times first. Some just felt time-consuming to me. Hunting down all the Mr Racoon bobblehead things may not have been too bad with a guide. But that's just the unbreakable knife.
For infinite handgun, Samuari Edge and Infinite SMG you needed S Rank.

Then the Minigun was S+ Rank with Claire.
And not sure which weapons. It may have been the rocket launcher and minigun? But two of them required getting an S rank on hardcore in order to unlock. I think A/B scenarios had slightly different times. A, giving you a little extra. But I am pretty sure it was around 3 if standard difficulty. And hardcore required finishing the entire game in around 2 hours' time. Which I was entirely willing to admit I would likely never pull off LOL.
Added note, decided to randomly look things up. Leon or Claire A it's 3:30 to get S. Hardcore is 2:30. Unless it's B. Then it's thirty minutes less requiring three hours and hardcore requiring two as I said Also an added condition for S+ is you can only save a total of three times.
I would gladly pay $5-10 to be able to experience a RE game from the start with infinite rocket launcher

Here's an idea if you haven't done it already; Game Levels We both Loved and Hated. Here's mine; The cargo ship level from Command and Conquer: Renegade. That place is like a maze, and finding the one key card you need to access the second half of the ship is a total nightmare!
ooh i think a good one for me would be the Dust or Taiga chapters in Metro Exodus. i fucking love this game but have problems with Dust and Taiga. like the rest of the game its got the brilliant gameplay, excellent graphics and sounds, immersive elements, and slightly non-linear structure that shines in other levels, but Dust is just too damn big and empty for its own good. the car is nice for cutting travel time down but with little to actually see and collect in this level, it gets boring. the taiga has the most interesting "enemy" factions and looks beautiful but also has the three worst difficulty spikes in the game (both bear fights, ya'll know what im talking about, and when you have to get a boat from the "pirates", which just sucks if you wanna do it stealthy) and the most linear progression of the three "open world" levels.
I would like to hear more about Jane’s Duck Tales VHS/DVDs. What format are they? What episodes are on them? How much is she offering them for? If I bought them, would Jane autograph them?
Oh god, do I remember that Paint Pack in Gran Turismo 5. Even as someone who loved the franchise, I saw that and thought "Are you serious?". Thankfully, that hasn't happened ever again and instead as of GT Sport anyway, you can ONLY now get them using in-game currency. Good luck figuring which color you want to paint your Aston Martin One-77 because that color option list is far longer then my Health complications.

The first time I saw the karaoke cutscene for Judgement in Yakuza 0, that was when I truly realised how much I was going to enjoy the Yakuza series.
I know Sims 4 isn't the usual sort of game y'all cover, but the "My First Pets Stuff" pack might be a contender. You need to already own the Cats and Dogs pack to even use it, and it barely came with anything.
Yeah EA likes making The Sims a money printing machine. They have DLC and then they have Stuff Packs. Both are DLCs but one has like 10% of it removed then repackaged in a small set

Fun fact: Oblivion horse armor was one of the first dlcs to be sold on the Xbox marketplace, it was more a test than an actual dlc, Bethesda didn't want to charge for it but had to due to Microsoft.

It's purely cosmetic, you get what you pay for and it's not hinged on random chance, and it's just a silly decoration. The Horse armor DLC is nuts but the Sims Pets DLC that adds dresses for them is just better at least for me. A DLC in an DLC. Only EA manages this

I'm not saying it was worth the money they charged (2.50 USD) but the Oblivion Horse Armor did double the horse's health up to 750HP (which shorts the White Horse and Shadowmere)

Worst I've bought recently was the Director's Cut for Borderlands 3. Same price as the previous DLC, but the advertised new campaign is only four missions long and gives you no new environments. The previous four DLCs were great, but this one should, at least, have had a lower price point.
Can we get a DLC for Jane's eyebrows, I know it'd be a grossly op item, but it would still be funny. They can give you +25 charisma and a damage bonus to withering glares.
I think you would want the "Pinchable Cheeks and Cheekbones" DLC instead.
I enjoy a good withering glare.

I loved that part. I still do in the games that allow it, but they've made it worse so they can sell you the DLC. I actually DO get that famous sense of "pride and accomplishment", and every day I lament that game companies realised they could just sell it to you.

I remember playing the original RE3 in my emulator, and figuring out that by just changing one byte in the save file I could have infinite rockets, magnums, etc... No DLC required!
Well for Dissidia NT, when a new character supposedly joins in, you had to pay to actually be able to get those characters in and play them.
