“Washington (CNN)Before their bilateral meeting in Manila on Monday, President Donald Trump and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte posed for pictures. Reporters were late for what is known as the "pool spray" because, according to the pool report of the meeting, they were held up by security.
When they finally got into the room, reporters asked questions of the two leaders regarding Duterte's controversial human rights record and whether Trump would raise it with him. Here's what happened next:
Duterte: "We will be discussing matters that are of interest to both the Philippines and ... with you around, guys, you are the spies."
"Hah, hah, hah," Trump said laughing.”

As an American who is currently living in the Philippines, I have to speak my mind about this. I’ve seen the killings first hand in my neighborhood. I’ve seen what the neighborhood was, to what it has become now. Duterte is literally changing the philippines one person at a time. I can’t express how much safer I actually feel walking at night. Do you know how scary it is? Having my skin tone and people KNOWING I’m a foreigner? The amount of people that try to do me for money and shit? I know you think that he’s bad, I KNOW you think what he does is way out of line. However I feel safer here than in the states. At least in terms of people... Duterte’s answer for drugs doesn’t fit the American agenda or culture. I must admit, when he was getting elected I was partially scared that this would become a martial law country while I stayed for the amount of years I’m here. However the streets ARE cleaner, the drugs are literally decreasing with each passing day and I don’t feel like I have to look over my shoulder every single second. It’s not the answer to America’s drug problem, but it definitely is working here.

Your one tiny little bubble is NOT NOT NOT a representation of what's going on, unless you're a self-centered prick who only cares about his own skin. You moved into a bad neighborhood, like every country in the world has. Most of the common/petty/heinous crimes in the philippines(about 50 - 60%) are crimes committed by a person under the heavy influenced of illegal drugs..you go to regional courts in the philipines and you'll be surprise that most of the pending cases are cases that involved with illegal drug trade.

Try living here in the Philippines first before judging. You know nothing, I was living in the poor side and before the Duterte administration, violence was the norm. There are always killings, rape and all kinds of cruelty and all was due to drugs. We were always in despair until now. Now, we can walk safely and be at peace everyday.

We have a little bit of that ethic here in the USA too, but we view the problem as being the addiction to the drug rather than the drug itself.
