Passover vs Easter - The origins of Easter - Jim Staley

  • Why have we been celebrating Easter and not Passover if Jesus told us at the Last Supper, which was a Passover meal, to "Do THIS (Passover) in remembrance of [Him]?" In this short video, Jim Staley exposes the TRUTH about where Easter came from and what all the early Christians did when they celebrated the resurrection of Christ. Jim explores the fact that not only did the Messiah instruct us to keep it, but the apostle Paul did as well. And if that was not enough, he also reveals ancient records showing how the early, authentic Christian churches all kept Passover until it was outlawed by the Roman church in both 193 AD and for all time in 325 AD. This teaching will challenge you to the core on whether or not you really want to do Bible things in Bible ways or continue to worship Him according to the traditions of men.

Read the bible and do it His way!!! Not man's!!!! This new movement is called Messianic Judaism. They have the truth and follow the Feast days and the Sabbath! You can find the word e-ster in the bible in acts 12:4 , the word there in Greek is Pascal, this means Passover And NOT the E word!!!@@spmoran4703

Is Christ the Passover Lamb? If yes, then consider and explain how the Passover Lamb could eat the Passover before the Passover Lamb was even slain? Can the Passover Lamb eat itself? Is Messiah the perfect, ultimate fulfillment of the Passover Lamb or just a semi approximation? Does God fulfill His Word in part or in full? There is more here that Bereans will desire to look into. (see my longer separate comment)

hi @dwc0 This is a very good question. I can tell right away you are a thinking man and a Bible reader. The answer to your question is actually simple. But you must dig into historical type things. So if we look at the modern Jewish calendar which reflects the ancient calendar you will notice that there are two days of Passover. This is because like the new moon they celebrate the day before and the day of. So these two days that are marked Passover is just as the ancient. They celebrate before Passover and they eat all of the last of their leavened bread. Note that the disciples and Jesus ate leavened bread. You can eat leavened bread according to the Bible until the evening of the 14th end of the day. Then all of the leavening has to be out of the house. The slaying of the lamb does not happen until the next day, the 15th day on the Hebrew calendar. This is in the evening as the Bible states and we know that the day changes over to the next day in the evening. They cut the throat of the lamb exactly at the beginning of the 15th day, in the evening. So the next day when Jesus was crucified, it was on the 15th day in the evening at the beginning of the day when he passed away. He died at the right time according to the Scriptures. So the upshot is that we have to study Hebrew language and Hebrew history and the modern workings of Judaism to understand the Bible completely. I am not asking you to become a Jew all I am saying that there is much knowledge to be found by studying the Hebrew language and Scriptures. A piece of technical knowledge; the Scriptures were not given to the Jewish people but to the Hebrews. Judah was not the only one to receive the Torah, all of Israel received it. I am almost 70 now. I have a lot of time invested in this. I have hashed and re-hashed this thing out so many times and it always comes out the same. I have taught this to many people and they seem to find peace with it. This is a common question but a very good question. I surely do appreciate being able to answer it for you. I bless the Lord at all times who blesses my heart with good things. You might think of picking up a book or booklet about the 7 feasts of the Lord. It is very helpful in understanding all of what the calendar is about and how His timeclock works. I can spend hours doing this but I better let you go and figure this part out. If you have any questions you may feel free to message me or return to this site to have conversation. Shalom.

      @dwc0 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Well said. Then explain how that Passover Lamb could eat Himself before the Lamb was even sacrificed. I tell you the truth: Messiah was/is the perfect Passover Lamb and was killed on the afternoon of the 14th shortly before the Passover seder. Therefore it is quite impossible that He was keeping the Passover with his 12 on that night of the Last Supper when that sacrifice was still future. Easter is pagan but this Passover scenario is off the mark as well.

The Galileans ate the Passover on the eve (beginning) of the 15th and the Judeans at the end of the 15th due to the millions of pilgrims flooding Jerusalem. This is why Yeshua literally tells his disciples to go find a place to eat the Passover in Mt 26:17-30. So he can eat the Passover and still be the Passover at the same time. Now on the first day of the Feast of the Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”
And He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.”’”
So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.

The New testament started to operate after his death. Jesus told us to remember to break bread and drink wine in remembrance. He never said to observe the Passover. Just like the sabbath, he said he is the sabbath NOT observe the sabbath. He said he is the Lamb NOT continue to sacrifice lambs. In the same way as he is the Passover NOT continue to observe the Passover.

@@PassionForTruthVideo The Yahshua I know does not play fast and loose with His own laws. He gives no honor to men's traditions above His own Word, words which will by no means pass away. By your human reasoning, any deviance from God's specific Passover regulations are fine as a means to an end, and Yahshua was cool with it too. Wow, thank goodness men had different timings for Passover to afford Him the lenience of imperfection or Yahshua would have failed His ultimate mission. Is this the kind of loophole Man who prayed unto blood and suffered so on our accounts? Really? It never ceases to shock me how men can wave off the Word of God to serve a pet doctrine that human teachers have contrived and transmitted for generations, never thinking that Yahshua's perfection would never allow the merest corruption in His own path, nor would He counsel it in others'.
If you will humble yourself and earnestly pray to Yahshua to untangle this man-made mess for you , He will. But not unless you are prepared to place Him as your One and *only* Teacher, forsaking all others, as He commanded in Mat 23:8. It will require surrender of sparkly deceptions you've come to cherish but the end will be so worth it.

The research is extremely biased and bent. A farmer was helping his cow birth in his field near the road. A traveler noticed the farmer was having trouble so he stopped his car and went to help. Both men tugged at the two visible legs and together they birthed the calf. The traveler asked the farmer, "How fast was this smaller cow running to penetrate itself into the larger cow?" It's all the perspective you look at something.
The reason it seems the RCC was late in giving its response to the question of Passover or Easter is because this heresy wasn't observed until 300s AD.
Unfortunately the followers of Ellen Gould White have been deceive by an old heresy.
In Acts the early followers of the Way dedicated themselves daily to the breaking of bread. Bread was made daily and would be soft and wouldn't be breaking but the bread that was able to be broken was unleavened. The same unleavened bread leftover from Passover Jesus broke for Cleopas and the other disciple on the road to Emmaus on Easter in his home.

The vowel markings give the story away. Yaweh is Catholic and the name made up by St, Gesinius. He used two pagan deity names to do it. The vowel marks reveal a short e than a long O and finishes with an a as an ah sound. It would be Yehovah! I used to to do the Yehuah myself till knowledge came to town. I would say Yeshua from Yehudah is Yehuah. Sounds real nice but.... Shalom

When my children were little, they knew Christmas was not about Santa Claus. I told them. We would read scripture regarding the birth of our Savior. The rest of my family is not like this at all, but I’ve been this way for years. I had a pastor, say one Easter, that people who did not believe in the Easter egg hunt had a religious spirit. I know it was not personally directed at me because he didn’t know the way I felt. At the time I did not have small children so it wasn’t obvious why I didn’t participate. However, I don’t look at it as religious, but instead, conviction.

In the New Covenant, Jesus did something radically new and surprising. He personally invited all believers to join Him at the Passover table. This later became known as “The Lord’s Supper” or simply Last Supper (Luke 22:14-35).
It was at His last Passover meal that Jesus raised the cup and the matzah (unleavened bread) and said, “do this in remembrance of me.” When He said “do this”, He was speaking of the Passover!
Remembering Him in this way was not only His expressed wish. It is a confirmation of the continuity of God’s goodness throughout millennia. Jesus’ blood not only covers the sins of Israel, but the blood of the lamb of God was sufficient to rescue the whole world!

We celebrate the Passover every Sunday, at the Lord’s Table. It is the perfect form of the ancient remembrance feasts from the Old Testament, given to us by Christ Himself at the Last Supper. We do this in remembrance of Him.

Of course we are confused. We even follow the pagan Gregorian calendar and not the Hebrew one. This is why God looks at our hearts. And he forgives us for our sins when we repent, because we sin daily. Knowingly or unknowingly. Some of these things are not our faults we don’t know. I am just now learning about the Hebrew calendar at 40. And now that I know, I’ll observe and respect those holidays because they are in the Bible.

More examples of the *obedient* returning to Jerusalem to observe Yahs Feasts:
“And Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, *that they should come to the house of the LORD **_at Jerusalem, to keep the passover_** unto the LORD God of Israel.* For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation *_in Jerusalem, to keep the passover_* in the second month. *For they **_could not keep it at that time,_** because the priests had not sanctified themselves sufficiently, **_neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem._* And the thing pleased the king and all the congregation. So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beer-sheba even to Dan, *that they should **_come to keep the passover_** unto the LORD God of Israel **_at Jerusalem:_* for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written.”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭30‬:‭1‬-‭5‬
*“But bade them farewell, saying, **_I must by all means_** keep this feast that cometh **_in Jerusalem:_* but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.”

Shabbat Shalom. I honour and celebrate Passover, however, I don’t see how the Seder plate is Scriptural. If anything, Yahshua said in the New Testament in John 19:36 that not one of His bones shall be broken. So why would anyone who honours this Holy Week go by the traditions of the Seder plate with the broken lamb shank? Seems a bit contradictory.

    • @PassionForTruthVideo
      @PassionForTruthVideo  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Although the traditional Seder is not found explicitly in scripture we do see the basic elements in the last supper. And the whole Seder itself is symbolic of Christ. Remember, just because it’s a tradition doesn’t mean it’s bad. If it doesn’t break scripture and it glorifies the Father then it is more than encouraged. The traditional wedding ceremony and our vows are not found in scripture either but are a beautiful reflection of our marriage to Him and Him to us. Wednesday night bible study, youth camps, celebrating your wedding anniversary, the 4th of July, wearing jeans, and our tradition of eating French toast from the left over challa bread from the night before….are all traditions that are approved traditions. Even lighting candles is a tradition that we do every Friday night to symbolize the light of Yeshua and the invitation of the Holy Spirit coming into our home is a tradition. So let us be careful of falling into legalism through our well-intentioned zeal by banning things that produce life and glorify God just because we can’t find it in scripture. After all, even the false idea that it has to be found in scripture is not found in scripture. 😊

Not adding legalism can also be said referring to the celebration of Easter. We both know Catholics don’t worship eggs or bunnies. The SPIRIT of their worship is the resurrection of Christ. The TRUTH of their worship is the resurrection. The bunnies and eggs are indeed probably of pagan origin but by no means taken seriously in the church.

Jesus was risen on the weekly sabbath, right before the first day of the week ,so he showed up alive on the feast of first fruits. Yeshua died on the 4th day ,right before the feast of unleavened bread (annual Sabbath)Marc 14:1,2 at the ninth hour before sunset; so from Wednesday to Thursday, one day, from Thursday to Friday , two days and from Friday to Saturday (Sabbath) three days at the 9th hour (3:00 pm) at Sunset started the first day of the week , This was the sign of the prophet Jonah Matthew 12:39,40 the Son of man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The Roman church teaches that Jesus (Yeshua) died on Friday before the Sabbath, from Friday at 3:00 pm to Saturday 3:00 pm( nineth hour) one day and from Saturday to early morning before sunrise is less than two days, then Yeshua did not die on Friday, he died before the feast of unleavened bread Wednesday or fourth day or mid 9:19 dle of the week Daniel 9:26,27. Easter eggs are from the ancient Babylon and don't belong to this celebration.

Why can't we just eat a lamb, unlearned bread and bitter herbs just as Jesus. Exodus explains how to celebrate passover "Forever", but the Bible doesn't tell us to use a shank bone, salt water, horseradish, apples and 3 pieces of matzo

    • @joyhenson5832

Yes it’s three items lamb herbs and matzah. In fact some don’t eat lamb because they say Yeshua is lamb so they skip that and just do herbs and matzah. All the other items other than these are symbolic and not biblically required. But paganism had influence over Passover too so while people justify having an egg being symbolic it’s still element of paganism that snuck in so I think 3 or two items is what we really are to use. I think you are right to notice this!❤

The Greek word Pascha in Acts 12:4 means Easter. Jesus fulfilled Passover at Calvary. The early church celebrated Jesus' Resurrection on the Sunday after Passover, they called it Pascha which means Easter.
" Pascha (Καλό Πάσχα!) - This is the Greek equivalent of “Happy Easter”. Literally translated it means “Good Pascha” or “Good Easter”. Kali Anastasi (Καλή Ανάσταση) - This is what Greeks say to each other to express their joy about Christ's resurrection."

Because the way we celebrated in our community, is by remembering what God has done and the history in the Old testament on these days and also the prophetic aspects of his son Jesus Christ.

Yeshua fulfilled the biblical expectations and foreshadowing of what the Messiah would do: he was a willing sacrifice, a suffering servant, who came peacefully, was crucified, and was resurrected from the dead. In doing this during the holiday of Passover, when we remember God’s faithfulness to deliver us from bondage, Yeshua added even greater significance to this festival. If the implications of these claims are true, we have the opportunity to not only celebrate our redemption from slavery, but reconciliation with God through Messiah Yeshua.

My friend and I went through something similar. It seems to be the common response that once you're off Churchianity's propaganda, you're no longer welcome. People don't want the truth, possibly because they fear it. But rather, they seemingly want comfort in ignorance and in never being confronted with the Bible they claim to follow as Christians. I believe the pastors are recruited because they're either ignorant of what they're supposed to teach, or are willing to spread falsehoods for profit and are therefore welcomed into the big campaign to mislead people. But who knows.

    Prophecy:
“For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; You will not allow Your Holy One to undergo decay” (Psalm 16:10 NASB).
    Fulfillment:
“You can be sure that the patriarch David wasn’t referring to himself, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us.… David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave. God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this” (Acts 2:29, 31-32 NLT).
David wrote that God would not allow his Holy One to see decay. In the original context of Psalms, that could sound like he was simply expressing how God would elongate his life. But as Peter points out, David did eventually succumb to death, and his body lay nearby. So who would be impervious to the effects of death altogether?

Jesus (Yeshua) was a Jewish man, raised in a Jewish family. Thus, it is no surprise that He kept each one of the appointed times (moedim) as prescribed in the Torah - God’s Law. We know this for a fact just by reading through the Gospels.
Therefore, we know Jesus celebrated the Jewish holidays.
Because of that, Jesus and Passover are a natural pairing, but this correlation goes way beyond just observing this holiday.

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, ‘Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.’ This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: ‘Say to Daughter Zion, “See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey”’” (Matthew 21:1-5 NIV).
Zechariah predicted that the Messiah would be recognized by arriving in the holy city of Jerusalem on a donkey. Five days before Passover began, on the day that the lambs were selected for sacrifice, Yeshua rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. Joyful crowds greeted him, throwing their coats on the road and waving palm branches in praise. They recognized the fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy and heralded Yeshua as the anointed king Messiah.

The Passover Lamb and the Redemption of the World
The image of sacrificial suffering and triumphant victory is perhaps most fully realized in the words of Revelation 13:8-“…the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
Now we see the redemption of God at work not only through the eyes of the children of Israel delivered at the Exodus, not only through the eyes of those who witnessed the awesome power of the resurrection at the empty tomb, but as though through the eyes of the Lord Himself at Creation. We see redemption, if you will, as a foundational building block of reality.
The story of this sweeping vision is foretold in Scripture, demonstrated at Passover, and fulfilled at the Cross and the Resurrection. For Yeshua is truly the Lamb of God, whose blood has paid for our sins and has purchased our salvation.

There is MUCH to say about the calendar for sure. Everyone has an opinion but there is only one that the creator has endorsed for thousands of years. He said that he put the sun, moon and stars in the sky for signs and four seasons, telling us that they are there to help us know when he is Holy days are. And he keeps validating the same calendar that the Jews use today by sending lunar and solar eclipses that just so happened to land on these holy days. In my opinion, it is the strongest evidence of which calendar is correct. So we use the current Hebrew calendar except for we celebrate Pentecost on Sunday agree with the Saduccees on the proper date for Pentecost.

But he was wounded because of our crimes, crushed because of our sins; the disciplining that makes us whole fell on him, and by his bruises we are healed. We all, like sheep, went astray; we turned, each one, to his own way; yet Adonai laid on him the guilt of all of us. Though mistreated, he was submissive-he did not open his mouth. Like a lamb led to be slaughtered, like a sheep silent before its shearers, he did not open his mouth” (Isaiah 53:5-7 CJB).
    Fulfillment:
“And while He was accused by the ruling kohanim and elders, He did not answer. Then Pilate said to Him, ‘Don’t You hear how many things they testify against you?’ Yeshua did not answer, not even one word, so the governor was greatly amazed” (Matthew 27:12-14 TLV).
“The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, ‘Surely this man was the Son of God!’” (Mark 15:38-39 NIV).

The Seder plate is the entire beauty behind the Seder itself. It’s the symbols that all lead to Christ that make it so much of a beautiful experience. To get rid of something just because it’s a tradition is a legalistic and dangerous path. Pagans also invented cars, airplanes and underwear. It doesn’t make them evil. Lol.

understanding the fifth chapter of the Book of Revelation-Scripture’s most powerful image of the triumphant Lamb. Here the Lamb of God is revealed as the suffering, resurrected and triumphant servant of the Lord-none other than Jesus the Messiah.
“And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain…Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice: ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!'” (Revelation 5:6,11-12).

A messianic or Christian Seder is different than an orthodox seder. We put far different symbolism into each item. Traditions are not bad as long as they do not break scripture. In fact, many traditions are REALLY good and give much glory to God!

@@PassionForTruthVideo Disagreed; creating or adding traditions just because one believes they give more glory to YHWH is not good. Better to do His things rather than our own. Creating or adding more eventually leads to the absolute state of religiosity and legalism that Yeshua came to rebuke the Pharisees etc. over. No need to go full circle, it's better to keep to the what He's commanded, asked of, or wants from us.

Passover begins on the 14th of Nisan, which is the first month on God’s calendar. Although it is a little-known fact, Passover marks the beginning of the biblical calendar year. In fact, in the Old Testament years were often counted from the liberation from Egypt.
God instituted the feast while the Israelites were still in captivity in Egypt. When God sent the last plague, killing the firstborn of each household, He also introduced the Passover. It is a means of marking the Jewish people as separate from all others.
The LORD caused death to pass over each home that had applied the blood of a sacrificed, unblemished lamb to the doorposts (Ex. 12:1-28). This day was to be kept as a memorial and a feast forever (Ex. 12:14).
Jewish people observe the Passover from generation to generation. In that way, God teaches them to understand that the sacrifice of blood saves from death.
