      In Rock was recorded in late 69. Purple would do gigs, come back to the studio, record something, go back out and gig, etc. In Rock was released in the UK, I think in January, but not in the states until June that year. I do remember hearing Black Noght on the radio in early 70 (at the time, not included on the album, only released as a single. The 25th anniversary edition includes 2 versions of Black Night). In case you can't tell, Purple is my favorite band.

    Dude, I appreciate your reactions very much. You may have come relatively late to the whole rock/metal game, but you absolutely get it. Other reactors would say stuff like "oh, look how high that note he hits is" or "damn, how fast the guitar was in that solo", but that's just surface.
    Of course his vocals are epic, of course the solo is awesome, after all it's Gillan and Blackmore we're talking about, but it's not just about that, it's how it all makes you feel.
    It's no accident you said "if it didn't touch your soul, you're not human". Your character shows with stuff like that and it's a damn good one.
    I don't know if it's their best song, that's rather subjective, but for me it's their most hauntingly beautiful.
    Do Rainbow - Stargazer next, you won't be disappointed, I promise.

    • @richmayes8451
      @richmayes8451 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@richmayes8451 No arguments there, but I mean, Paice fricking slays it on the drums, and Glover's distinct bass line is so crucial for the whole mood.

      @@notquitemytempo1353 EXACTLY! Deep Purple Mark II were tighter than a nun's snatch! The live stuff from Mark II is just outstanding. That Live in Stockholm 1970 show the DPAS put out is just incredible. I am sure you have heard it, but I'd love to see a reactor do a video to some of the jams from that gig. Just incredible stuff! Pre-Made in Japan it ranks up there as a fantastic live document and testament to Deep Purple at their height! I use the best cuts from the complete Japan three concert set and this one to make the ultimate DP Concert I think its 16 songs and over 4 hours. LOL But great for long drives on a summer day.

    • @notquitemytempo1353
      @notquitemytempo1353 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@HendrixJHE What I love about lives like the Stockholm one and generally about bands like Purple and Led Zep etc, is that they were essentially pioneers of the genres at a time when metal and prog rock as we know and defined them weren't a thing, and you can hear in their studio albums but more so with live stuff, how beautifully they incorporate other genres and influences.
      A lot of jazz stuff, a lot of classical stuff, a lot of blues and soul (Ian's vocals as a case in point, but Plant's too), a lot of improv and jamming. It was all still pretty raw and it was a time of collective discovery and mutual influence, filled with a desire to push the limits.
      One just can't recreate that today, one can only delve into that brilliant past and get immersed in the awesomeness.

    • @HendrixJHE
      @HendrixJHE 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@notquitemytempo1353 Yes, I mentioned similar on our man's reaction to Victims of Changes. That was the birth of this amazing music, there are many fantastic bands from the early 70s. ELP and Ten Years After are two that spring to mind.
      But as you said, to really appreciate these bands for what they were, you have to immerse yourself deeply in to their live shows, whether official record company releases or bootleg recordings. I bet not many listen to live Floyd in the early 70s, but man, some amazing concerts I have from that time period. As for Deep Purple, the songs are just taken to a whole new level in a live setting. I have many DP Mark II concert recordings and of course sound quality varies but I have enough great sounding ones to enjoy for sure! Their live set in 1970 and 1971 contains great examples of how they could jam with the best of them. I mean what would our man here do if he listened to the live version of Child in Time from Stockholm! HAHA

    Deep Purple are considered one of the 3 most important bands in the history of hard/heavy rock music. Still, I consider them to be very underrated! Singer, Ian Gillain is one of the most iconic voices in rock history, Blackmore is without doubt one of the top 10 guitar players in history, the bass player was doing his job and had also great vocals. Finally the drummer, Ian Paice has to be one of the best drummers ever. Overall, Deep Purple are one of the most skilled, high-level musicianship bands ever. Btw, I think Child in Time is one of the best songs ever and their best song but "Burn", "Highway star" are also 2 very very good songs. Not even gonna mention "Smoke on the water". Finally, if you want to hear something a bit different from the, check out "When a blind man cries"
