As a Tennessee native I really hate how Dickel has influenced people's response to the overall category of Tennessee whiskey. Jack Daniels, Uncle Nearest, Old Dominick, Chattanooga Whiskey. The list goes on of those making really good whiskey that are not Dickel.
I personally like George Dickel the 90 proof is something I drink often. Yes there taste has changed back when I was younger and that’s in the seventies even the 80 proof had a different flavor. I believe when they were sold things changed unfortunately. It’s not a horrible whiskey and believe me I’ve had some absolutely terrible whiskey in my day.
It is unfortunate, as you said, because TN has great whiskey. Even Dickel has some great whiskey! It really just seems that if you see TN in a blend, odds are it's from Dickel and odds are it's of a certain flavor profile. I think experienced whiskey drinkers know the difference but we've just gotta keep educating others about it.
If you're not a Beam fan you might not want to buy a bottle before trying it, but would still recommend trying it, as 38% of this is from 4 other distilleries.
I would never have considered purchasing this bourbon had I not seen this video.

2% is the right amount here. Just like using salt and pepper. It helps the overall blend.
That 9 year is Beam. This one's definitely going to be a buy for me.

A lot of good Dickel products...some need a splash of water to round out the rough edges, but still good.
The Dickel 13 year BiB is solid.

Disco 8 has been my favorite so far. Haven't seen 9 yet in my area, so I can only imagine when I'll see 10. How was #9?
9 was good. We haven't really had a batch that we haven't liked, though, just some batches are above others. We think 10 is better than 9.
