In a hierarchy that begins with sports cars and ends with hypercars, supercars are the high-performance middle, featuring vehicles that are more than capable of tearing up the track and leaving common sports cars in the dust. Considering my C6Z06 walked away from Mclarens, Lambos, Ferraris, etc, I’d say the Z06 was a budget supercar all day long.

I actually think the 630hp c6 race seemed accurate. It’s a matter of getting to and staying in the power band and then shifting quicker. You started in a lower gear, right in your wheelhouse, and got good traction and rowed through the gears well. Other Z started in the wrong gear and shifted slowish and likely too early in the rpms, never giving himself a chance to get ahead. To utilize the power band of a healthy heads/cam setup, you have to rev it out and stay up there.
I gotta say, this confused the fuck out of me. Not what you said, but the race against a fellow Z itself. 460 wheel vs 630 in a Z. I have no idea how he didn't destroy. I'm starting to think driver skill is a bigger factor than I originally thought. I downplay my skills all day but hung with a 725 HP Termi two months ago. I only make 550 wheel.
@@michaelwillette5837 skills mean alot. Hp number means alot too. But let me break it down for you, at least in terms of an auto car. And maybe this well help explain how staying in powerband works. Take 2 cars, both identical both 500hp. Give one stock stall, give one a 4000rpm stall. The car with the big stall will be faster due to the way the stall keeps the rpms up. Same concept in a stick. If you can shift faster and smoother, you will stay in the rpm sweet spot and the car will run stronger than if you had a bad shift. Traction plays a role as well. Vettes over 600hp typically spin under a 60 roll

Insane how a car released 15 years ago is still slapping around modern sports cars and supercars. Corvettes have always been known for being the best bang for your buck (hell, the best bang for ANY buck), but the C6Z took that to another level. How drivable are these mods? I'm unfortunately not quite financially able to make a C6 ZR1 or C7 Z06 a reality, but the lightness advantage of the Z06 coupled with some basic modifications can produce a Z06 that can keep up with a ZR1. Hopefully I'll have one in my garage in the next month! I daily drove a 2008 Corvette for a couple years before needing to sell it to get a more practical commuter. But now that I'm teleworking, no need to have a boring commuter car! When the weather in the winter is bad, I don't have to go out, so it can be a practical daily driver even in the winter. I always thought my 2008 Corvette was actually quite practical: large trunk space, comfortable even for a 6'4" driver, and pretty remarkable fuel economy for a 430 hp V8; even when romping on it everywhere I went, I typically got 20 mpg city, and 30 mpg highway. And that exhaust note... 🤤
Basic modifications isn't gonna make a a Z06 keep with a ZR1. You'd have to do a well put together Heads Cam combo, with all the supporting mods for it to be reliable plus exhaust of course followed by a tune. It gets expensive quick and is far from basic if it's going to run neck and neck with a ZR1 the king of all C6s. So yeah definitely not basic by any means. U understand it's a 427 cubic inch engine but they're sidewalls are actually vulnerable when you talk about longevity in terms of reliability after modifying a C6 Z06
This reminds me of a video I saw of 500whp terminator cobras walking on hellcats. It came down to the fact that the people driving the cobras were good drivers.
No 500whp 03/04 cobra is beating a hellcat unless the driver is purposely fucking up. It's not hard to hold the left paddle for 2 seconds and downshift to the best gear than stomp the gas.
I'm gonna buy my first vette soon. I'm not loaded but i work for the union and make good coin. I was thinking my first corvette should be a c5 with the targa top, or a c6 with the targa top. I really love the removable roofs! stickshift only, of course!
I recently built an LS7 powered gen V M6 1LE Camaro. Absolutely love this motor. Rock stock out of the box Chevrolet performance crate 570/427. Drove it 150 miles, raced it, ran 12.23 @ 119mph at 3300DA. Drove it home and averaged 15mpg. Remember a gen V Camaro with driver is pushing 4100lbs. Cant wait to start doing Mods. Car made 517hp to the tires through stock cat back NPP exhaust.

But that damn 60' is holding me back. 2.1 best so far using launch control @4200 rpm, 20" Nitto drag radials and a Real Street Clutch Tamer. I raced a 550whp c6 Z06 and he destroyed me. He ran 11.0@129mph. 40hp more and 3300lbs with driver vs 4100lbs..lol Love your car. IMHO C6 Z06 are the best Vette's Subtle, Clean, Simple and FRICK'N MEAN

One time in my c6z I was patrolling the streets at 10PM looking for some races. Found an Acura RSX that had drag holes in the back bumper. It sounded so nasty I thought it was a V8. Turns out his exhaust was sticking out the right side of his fender behind the right wheel. I was on his right windows down. He started spooling up and I was riding it out in first, I let him spool it up because I thought it was just a loud 4 banger. Well, we hit it off and I get the jump because he spins through first and second and I dead hook. While he's spinning, I'm reeling it up before redline in second (80ish mph) and he's still spinning and starting to pass me with his exhaust sounding like an M249. He hits 3rd gear and enters warp drive mode. Only time I've ever got walked in my vette, hope to see it again because I love raw power.

Current gen stangs and any hellcats will easily be modded and cheaply to destroy you're modded 03 cobra. Plus you're 03 cobra was just about as heavy as the new 5.0s.
I'm about to pick up my C6 ZO6 this week! Can't wait. I want to do these same mods, plus a Fast102 intake & throttle body... basically FBO, but I live in Cali...and pass tight smog regulations 🙄. I gotta look into it and see what I can or can't do now.

Nice runs. Are you stock gearing and what are the starting mphs? I always try to start at 60mph because I’m in 2nd sweet spot. Anything else I’ll be top of 1st or bottom of 3rd and have harder time.
All about the transmission. That BMW was the monster and it really puts the power down due to that hellacious transmission. You were rowing the gears nicely as well.

Love seeing stock and bolt on comparisons. Definitely reliable driver mods, oem equipment working as it should. That 600+ whp c6z driver was pretty bad. Sounded like he wasn't revving it out or in a good gear.
Yeah, he should have put a bus length on me. I just wanted to race him to see the difference between the mods cause he has everything done that I want to do. definitely didn’t go as expected tho.
A stock C6 Z is about hellcat fast on a roll w/competent driver so this seems right on. Dude in the HCI Z is either sleeping between shifts or lying about his numbers. A 170 hp advantage in the same car should have done better even with granny shifts.
It also could have a hurt motor. Ran another c6 hc but it was a mild setup making 550. We stayed neck and neck, and I made around 480. A week later his motor blew. You just cant go cheap on heads and cam builds.
Once I had my tuned, and HCI..I can't even leave out of 2-3rd without the road turning into ice lol...and that's with 85% tread 325 nitto invo's. They are badass cars but they also come with badass problems lol!!

Not yet. The heads and cam are getting done this winter! and you’d have to be really unlucky to actually drop a valve. it is a known problem but it’s not like it’s a 50/50 chance that it’ll actually happen. lol

Its definitely something to be aware of. But it's not a definite issue with every car. I think its more rare than most people think because you only here of the bad ones and not the thousands of cars that never had a problem. If you find a good deal on a 2012 or 2013 then get it. Jmho.

Great runs but I feel like something is off. 460 whp with mods? That’s what a stock C6Z puts down, or close to it. A 5gen Z/28 puts down 470 stock, but has 3:91 gearing so I would think yours with intake exhaust and tune would at least match that but probably beat it. I’m thinking your around 500 give or take 10

my car still drives like stock! cause it’s pretty close to it haha I only have a cold air intake, long tube headers, catless x-pipe and a tune!

Love seeing stock and bolt on comparisons. Definitely reliable driver mods, oem equipment working as it should. That 600+ whp c6z driver was pretty bad. Sounded like he wasn't revving it out or in a good gear.
Yeah, he should have put a bus length on me. I just wanted to race him to see the difference between the mods cause he has everything done that I want to do. definitely didn’t go as expected tho.

A stock C6 Z is about hellcat fast on a roll w/competent driver so this seems right on. Dude in the HCI Z is either sleeping between shifts or lying about his numbers. A 170 hp advantage in the same car should have done better even with granny shifts.

It also could have a hurt motor. Ran another c6 hc but it was a mild setup making 550. We stayed neck and neck, and I made around 480. A week later his motor blew. You just cant go cheap on heads and cam builds.

Any head work done for the valve issue? I've really been eyeing one of these but the valve guide issue has made me a little more than hesitant.
Not yet. The heads and cam are getting done this winter! and you’d have to be really unlucky to actually drop a valve. it is a known problem but it’s not like it’s a 50/50 chance that it’ll actually happen. lol

Its definitely something to be aware of. But it's not a definite issue with every car. I think its more rare than most people think because you only here of the bad ones and not the thousands of cars that never had a problem. If you find a good deal on a 2012 or 2013 then get it. Jmho.
You can thank the lord there were FBO ten speeds 5.0 Mustangs there. If that GT350 has a FBO and a tune its game over.
This C6z has the most important mod of all...the driver mod.

Great runs but I feel like something is off. 460 whp with mods? That’s what a stock C6Z puts down, or close to it. A 5gen Z/28 puts down 470 stock, but has 3:91 gearing so I would think yours with intake exhaust and tune would at least match that but probably beat it. I’m thinking your around 500 give or take 10

Its a dyno, they can be +/- 50whp based on the dyno alone or simply the OA conditions.
