  • Chances are that if you watch channels like mine, you’ve heard of Northern Tool + Equipment. They’ve been in business for over 40 years, and have over 120 stores in over 20 states. In their catalog and on their website, you’ll find over 100,000 items of tools, equipment, and supplies, including MetalTech construction equipment. MetalTech has been making equipment for the construction industry for over 60 years, including scaffolding. Northern Tool asked me if I’d be interested in trying out something from their MetalTech collection and it didn’t take me long to settle on their 6’ Baker scaffold. I asked if they would include the guardrail kit and they agreed and also offered to include the outrigger kit, so I was thrilled!

    Martin, we have had our unit for about 5 years. Love it! No guardrail unit. No outriggers. My wife and I have spent 100's of hours on the scaffold. We never raised it to full extent as the legs are unsupported and start to get wobbly.
    We re-painted our old house including ceilings and we did a major remodel on an old 1890's farmhouse. The scaffold was perfect for removing 10,000 ceiling tile staples. It works best for us with one on the ground and one in the scaffold. The person on the ground is the 'go fer' and pushes the scaffold around. This person also paints lowere surfaces (no sitting around). We always lock all 4 casters. We built a custom ladder for the scaffold that we tied to the scaffold with bungee cords to allow the person on top to get up or down as needed. It had much shorter steps for our old knees.
    The outrigger kit may have been useful in a few cases but in many cases they would have kept us from getting close to the wall, which we needed to do, or prevent use in some of the smaller rooms.

      My wife and I had a similar system with a borrowed scaffold when we were adding on to and renovating our house. I was on the scaffold and she was the “go for” while I was on the scaffold. It had no guardrails so we made some with some lumber and clamps. Fond memories! Thanks for watching!

    Thank you Northern Tool for the donations. It's great to see this unit assembled, and it's stability. Will keep it in mind this summer during my house addition.

      LOL! Yes, I thought it was a sweet deal to get that complete scaffold rig for making a review video of it which I had fun making. AND it’s a really well-built scaffold too!

    💥 Great review! That scaffolding also makes terrific shelving for tractor implements. Nice between the feet reverse box opening method! 👍

      Thanks, Jon! Yes, I remember seeing a couple of your videos covering how you store you implements on scaffolds. Very clever when space is limited. I parked my scaffold over my carryall so it takes up almost no extra floor space. Thanks for watching!

    The northern tool sponsorship is awesome !!! I wish I had one local but I do a lot of ordering from them. The outriggers really do make a big difference, especially if you decide to go two high. Awesome review Martin!

      I have the same issue here. The closest one to me is nearly 90 miles away. I have ordered much stuff from Northern Tool and have yet to have a bad experience. I don't know how well they handle problems because I have never had one. I have never talked to anyone who has.

    Just set mine up and I like it on level one. I did go two levels, and the wobble factor scared the shit out of me (mostly because I did it solo). Like I said, it's great for one level, if you go higher have a couple shots of whiskey and hang on for scaffold surfing.

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you stack two, make sure you get the stabilizers for it. Even so, the taller you go, the wobblier it will get. Thanks for watching!

    First off Sir, absolutely great video and description and showing just how easy assembly is. I've had one of Harbor Frieght's Franklin's versions years ago and just recently went and purchased another one but it's still in my product room Uninstalled.
    Need another to stack and run across the video of metaltech's new version of scaffolds. The nearest dealer for Metaltech scaffolds and went and purchased one last night.
    The newer version is absolutely amazing with the safety features and the quality over the Franklin's version is night and day. I made a call last night to sell my new Franklin scaffolds and soon as I sell it I will be getting ahold of Northern Tool to purchase another Metaltech scaffold with the 14"out riggers and the cage.
    Thank you Sir for a well put together and top quality video and to let me know ow Northern Tool carries these nice Metaltech Scaffolds.
    Subscribed and looking forward to more great videos Sir! Thank You.

    How's she goin'? These are nice scaffold systems eh!! It's nice that you got the guard rails and outriggers. I find mine gets pretty wobbly when I have it set up near it highest position, so the out riggers and guard rails would be a welcome add for my scaffold. You'll find tons of uses for this now that you have it. I use one for storing some of my tractor implements!! This was a nice review Martin and thank for sharing. Take 'er easy!!!

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mike! Yes, the higher the position, the wobblier they get and the older I get, the wobblier I get so the guardrails are really nice to have! You and Jon Ritter make clever use of scaffolds for storing implements. Thanks for watching!

    Wow this is a great idea. I hadn't considered one of these but since my ceiling in my shop is 16 ft at the highest point, it sure would be nice to have. I have some wiring to do and guess I will be making a trip to Northern tool soon. Thanks for the great video! Also, it would be interesting to see how you plan to store it when not in use. Maybe partially disassembled and hanging from a wall or something?

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Marty! Sounds like you really would benefit from having a scaffold. I thought about disassembling it an hanging the pieces on the wall but it so happens that the scaffold perfectly straddles my carryall so it does take up an extra floor space. I might leave like that for now. Thanks for watching!
