Tomorrow will be my third half marathon and my best time was about 2 hours 35 minutes, started from 2 hours 57 minutes. I thought about quitting because I am slow, I saw a lot of videos where people finished their first half marathon in 2 hours, or 2 hours and 20 minutes. Seeing others results I felt like a failure, but you inspired and motivated me, I will keep running
THANK you. My youtube feed is filled with "You should do THIS and THIS to run a half marathon under 1 hour and 10 minutes". Shut it! Loved this. Not everyone can just do this and that, and running is for everyone.
Well done! Fellow slow runner. I’ve done Oxford twice 2018 (2:31) and 2021 (2:44). It’s a nice flat course, I had similar weather both times, and also wasn’t keen on the park section. Really liked the part where you talked about not being bothered about pace, so slow down. I’ve learnt to do that running on my own, but can’t help myself pushing in a long race then ending up needing to walk.
You've really inspired me on my running journey! I was going way too fast and getting so disheartened with my lack of progress. Then I saw your videos and my perspective completely shifted. I slowed down and tried out the Runna app with your free 2 week trial and wow the difference is astronomical. Thanks for all your videos on here and Instagram, they've made such a difference for me :)
Great video, I love your mindset about enjoying the race and not worrying about making a specific time. I do the run walk method at round the 11:30 min/mile pace. Doing my first half next week.
Yay well done!!! My first (and only to date) half marathon 7years ago I did it in 3 hours, so it was wonderful to watch someone else around my speed doing it
I am really happy to listen to you because I then dont have to feel wrong in races when many is running pass me as if it is about getting it done as fast as possible and just dont listen to their heart rate or their breath and end to drop out of the race. I ran a marathon in Berlin in 2017 and I started just two hours into the race because I should run my first long run over 33 km and all other runners beside me just went on in a crazy speed. I later in the run I passed really many runners when I reached the 32 km I was still having a great time and when I finished I had run in 5 hours and 25 min. But I wasnt destroyed and I was able to walk and I felt so great. It was really a great experience and not embarrasing at all. Inga DK.
I was out there too running the Oxford Half for my third time as it's my local event of this distance - totally agree that the long stretch back into Oxford is the hardest bit! Congrats on getting it done!!
Well done you!! 👏🏻👏🏻 the bit you hated was Marston Ferry Link Road. I live in Oxford and it's a horrible part of the course, totally agree with you!! (thank you for liking my city tho! :) ) I marshalled on this event too, such a shame I didn't know about your channel back then, would loved to have said hello :)
I just ran my first half marathon in 2:37:07 and needed to hear that 🫶 such a refreshing approach, I shouldn't have let other people's times impact the way I feel about my run. Thanks!
Yep, coming up out of Old Marston was a bit horrid, that long hill with noone around to cheer us on. I think the worst bit for me was going round that little housing estate where people had brought their sofa's out into the drive ways, the constant left turn right turn was really disheartening for me. No, I lie, the very worst bit was that horrid bit around the building where they put that rubber stuff down that was off camber, that was naff. We must've been fairly close, my time was 2:42.41
