    I come from a school that Barry Humphries (the man behind the drag of Dame Edna) went to and he sponsored a prize for Contribution to the Arts, which I won in 2001. I am so happy that I played some part in this history. Dame Edna is an icon and so is Barry. The fact that a straight man who created a drag character who went international is in the age that it happened is just staggering. RIP Barry.

      Barely a second ago this psychic message appeared in the ether. Some light needs to be shed on this mysterious missive. Perhaps a viewer from the Commonwealth could Have a Riesling and play the Ump;
      Why all this talk about Michael Parkinson, possums? Many of these people, these so called stars that Michael had on his show were non-entities. Some were real stars. They were friends of mine whom I had helped in the past and who needed an appearance on a show. So I mentioned them to Michael, working behind the scenes, putting shows together for him using my connections, taking time out of my busy schedule. I like to help people. It's just the kind of person I am. Every time I was on the show I got exciting reviews, being a megastar. The audience loved me and Michael did too. He was lucky enough to be my guest several times over the years. He told me I was his favourite, my female urges and juices coming out in great gusts. I shared my experiences, always in the strictest confidence. Sadly, all things must end. Thank you for having me in your homes viewers! Dame E. Everage (The Megastar that won't go away!)".

    Perfect interview. I am Aussie and Conan played the foil perfectly. I don’t quite understand the criticism of Conan in the comments. The whole point of Barry’s humour was that you could be anyone at all around him and he had an angle. You could try to shut Barry down, play along, try to keep up, it really didn’t matter at all; Barry had an agenda to launch from wherever you are into whatever he already found funny. You just had to be there, turn up, and he was “on”.

      @jochenstossberg5427 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The only reason that the Brit's 'got' Edna so quickly is simply that there are a huge number of Australians there. So they were used to the dry, edgy comic tone of funny Australians and the kind of character that was the target of the humor. They knew this character because at a stretch she could be English or Irish. It was scathing satire. American audiences took a while to get the joke late because they just hadn't seen a great deal of Edna, or Australians in general - but when it clicked, they totally got the jokes. Resist at your peril. He was so off the charts hilarious that he made some people nervous, and that included some Australian guests. Watch Edna with Germaine Greer. She had zero sense of humor, and Edna went in for the kill. I met him once and he was the most charming man. Edna was always referred to as a a real person not a character. He could never get away with it now sadly. He was quite brilliant.

    Two legends of comedy. This was marvelous. Although I don't think Conan knew what to do with Dame Edna. For an equally awkward interview, look up the Tonight Show clip where Johnny Carson was interviewing rising star Tiny Tim in the 1960s. Comic genius!

    What is all this talk about Dame Edna being deceased. She won't hear of it! Being an experienced psychic she contacted me this evening to help set the record straight. She sends her love to all possums and points out that many of her longtime gynaecologists, among them Mr Iglesias Sr and Mr Markle, have looked her over closely, and concluded that she is at the height of her powers, and that, like so many women of to-day, she has strong female drives urges and juices.

    American hosts have to be the star and interrupt, UK hosts wind the guest up, bring them out and let them run. Watch Parkinson or Graham Norton and you'll see what I mean. If a guest is flagging they prompt them and interfere, if they are in full flow they just let them go and enjoy the show. Sometimes the guest will banter with the host, but the greatest interviews are from the people who just start and keep going. It often confuses international artists when they come to the UK as they aren't used to the free flow of the process, or the fact they aren't limited to what they can say, but a lot of them keep coming back because it's so much fun. Bea Arthur for instance was notorious for hating chat shows and interviews, but she loved Graham Norton because it was so silly and fun. Edna was a chat show hosts dream guest because she was always "on". From the first "Hello Possums" to the final moment she held an audience in the palm of her hand.

      Barely a second ago this psychic message appeared in the ether. Some light needs to be shed on this mysterious missive. Perhaps a viewer from the Commonwealth could Have a Riesling and play the Ump;
Thank you for having me in your home viewers! Dame E. Everage (The Megastar that won't go away!)".
