I had the pleasure of seeing Dolly live in Saskatoon back in the 70s. She had Faron Young as her opening act, Faron made some disparaging remarks in regards to Dolly's attributes. he never made another appearance on the stage after the first act, Dolly did the whole show alone. was wonderful!! Somewhere
about the mid point of the whole program, she split the side seam in her outfit, prior to going for repairs
she went to the mike and said quite simply, "my dad's going to tell me that, that's what happens when
you try to put ten pounds of spuds in a five pound sack"! One of the best live shows I ever attended!!
I stumbled upon seeing Dolly perform for a few minutes in the mid-70's. I had gone to a local community college (in San Jose, CA) to see a Jacques Cousteau movie and on the way out to the car afterwards we heard music playing in a smaller auditorium - a few hundred people most. Think folding metal chairs type of event. A door was open so we peeked in and watched her for about 10 minutes. I hadn't heard of Dolly at the time but I truly enjoyed watching her, in part because of how happy and bubbly she was...exactly the same today, 45+ years later. I found out her name as we got towards the parking lot; her bus was out front with her name on it.
The washing machine repair man didn't talk very much. Goat shed. Opened and left. Wire. Glad about it really. Satchel aspirin. Listen to that sucking noise.
Dolly is always so good in interviews, great sense of humour and no ego.

She has also given so much with her Imagination Library and medical research philanthropy. She is a national treasure!!

I was never a big fan of her singing, but I am a fan of her personality. she built Dollywood not just for the theme park but to showcase craftsman and crafting techniques that are in danger of being lost to time. she has helped many people over the years that genuinely needed help; she is awesome like that.
