This is the most beautiful car on sale just cause it’s so elegant and different to everything else. Looks like a concept car. Just with it had a better drive train.

Thank you for another great review! Fully agree on interior materials, would love to see manufacturers offer more textile options as well, instead of just leather and fake leather. The right cloth seats can really give the interior a more welcoming feel and are more comfortable in both hot and cold weather.

Yes Thomas ,I would like a FULL electric BMW i8 ,not just hybrid.A hybrid is just an interim solution ,40 km is just not enough range .So make it a FULL EV BMW ,please! Great video Thomas ,as usual ,keep it up!

yeah, that would be great. With min. 400km Range (WLTP) 22kW AC + 100kW DC Charging. Two (or even four?) Electric Motors with around 400hp combined . ;))
That would be a cool Electric Sports car.
Exactly ,it would be a cool totally EV.Better looking than the Tesla Model X ,I would buy a totally full electric BMW I8 if I had the money.
That would probably add another 500 kg. Not a sports car anymore at that weight.
No chance of that, BMW have pulled the plug on the i8... what on earth are they thinking????

I have had 3 i8s own £4k mile Roadster. In 2021 Autotrader had 234 coupes and 67 Roadsters - in Feb 23 just 123 coupes and 20 ROADSTERS. when they get to 6 or 7 cars values skyrocket just like my SLS, Z8, CLS, 996.1 gt3 did....get one now while just over half retail as they'll be back at retail in 5-6 years and twice retail in 10-15 years !

The best review on this car by one of the best reviewers. I like the contrast with most other commentators who sound like marketing messages. Sometimes, you sound a bit like rambling on, filling time with a few repetitions; but the sum of it still is the best the net has to offer. Great job!

This comment comes 4 years late, but I had to type it anyway: I believe the extra capacity fuel tank 'option' is due to some regulatory trickery, allowing them to set all the official data for the cars with the lower capacity tanks but then basically sell all their cars with the larger capacity tank. I'm not sure what are all the effects of having a smaller capacity tank, but at least the car's weight I believe is calculated with the tank filled to a certain percentage, so a smaller capacity tank gives the car a slightly higher allowed useful load.

I do enjoy what I do, however you can imagine there is much much more involved than you see on camera - and I can tell you, sometimes it is really not easy to cope with. However, worth the effort when you guys enjoy it full length :)

Well, I honestly wonder how reliable the combustion engine could be because, while you are driving purely electric the combustion engine will cool down and then suddenly you decide to hammer the throttle and then the combustion engine will do a cold start revving quite high.
What a great looking car & backdrop! Not a huge fan of the regular I8 but the cabriolet looks really good I must say. Great presentation & review as always Thomas!

I have a 2014 550xi and and have custom cold air intakes, Evolutionary Race werk down pipes, and cat back M5 competition exhaust and I wake my neighbors up when I start my car. Love the twin turbo V8. but some times I like to keep it low volume. I will definitely look into this car because of your review.

Future investment....I got £50k off list price last month. Now discontinued after only 23 months production. Will be the next SLS, Z8 in ten or so yrs from now I'm certain

Fantastic review! BMW still manage to maintain their “DNA” in every car they make. Never fail. Whilst the i8 Roadster is not an everyday driver, it most certainly is a great summer car, if one has, as you pointed out at the end, the disposable income 🙂. I agree with your idea that it would be great as an all-⚡️ 🚘 . To be able to drive it about the beautiful countryside in near silence and maximum sustainably would be awesome! Enjoying the winding roads as well as the sights and sounds through countryside.

Great review as always, not a looker for me, sat in one, never driven, a pain to get in and out and just does not do it for me, and I drive a BM, so like the brand. How are they selling? Believe the residual value is dropping hard? But you look like you loved it, so it could be the colour or chopping the roof off, but not for me 🤗

It does seem like one should be able to "Delete" fake engine sound from their vehicle or just turn it off even in Sport mode.. My concern is that the sound might distract from actual road noise... But I still want this car. I've heard in another owner's review that the trunk can melt things like flippers, food or chocolate from the heat of the engine. Maybe they will fix this or just through in a 4 cylinder engine like they're other hybrids. FYI an easy conversion I use to interpret Fahrenheit to Celsius is that 82F is approximately 28C.

Thomas next time get the highway in direction to Inca, there are some straight roads where you can test the acceleration. furthermore there is less traffic and far less police cars

When in pure electric mode and the battery runs out how long does it take the engine to recharge to full?
It depends on speed and it charges max. ~75% that way, but up to 50kW power. Once on a german highway I managed to charge it in only 10 Min. Fun fact: at the end of the trip I ran out of fuel and was happy to have 25km electric range left 😄

Did you noticed the accident at 21:00? On your left...
Decided to watch this after watching your challenge to the CEOs (for some light relief - I was in tears after watching the plight of those poor cows), it occurred to me that like the role for hybrids could be a transitionary strategy for Cities on a global basis? It reduces emissions where the problem is worst and introduces people to the role of electricity in transport. May I also urge you to search the Dutch Architect who has worked out how our cities could look like after car parks are repurposed in the event that mobility becomes a reality.
Awesome review funny how everyone wants you to compare it to the 2020 Tesla Roadster (a car that isn't out yet.) America is not the car enemy. The storage is a joke and the comfort of getting in and out makes the super rich look ridiculous. But sitting it looks great the curb appeal of BMW'S is fantastic. The sound control with the top removable is amazing

I heard you mention it, but couldn't quite catch it. Its some island I'm not familiar with i think. Beautiful, left hand drive, uses km/h and has many English signboards, so I'm curious where that is.

I'd love an i8 coupe, when they depreciate to about £30k. I would definitely buy one.
Jesper Henriksen batteries have an 8 year warranty. Early prius's with batteries over 10 years old are still good. BMW i8's are currently £50k used. My i3 will be going back in a couple of years so hopefully by then I can go for the i8.
Prices will rise from next year now discontinued....by at £40k will only go up now - good low mileage early 14/15 cars will be £75k in ten years - big investment potential like SLS and Z8 for certain....
