    The best i8 roadster review I've come across. This should be at the top of the youtube search!

    Discontinued this month after just 23 months in production. This rare and pioneer Hybrid CarboTub GT car will be lamented when it's gone. It is the next SLS or Z8 (both of which were slow sellers and heavily discounted at circa 30%) in 2012 and 2003 when being discontinued, as is the Roadster i8 now...Mint Roadster be a £150k car in 10-12 years time even a mid mileage 2014 coupe will be £80-90k - so at current £40k they are a steal and top investment if you can wait 10 yrs 😏

    I'm not sure why some people claim that the B38K15T0 was borrowed from Mini. That engine was developed for the i8 but later used in Mini

    Pure electric is going to make the ICE uneconomic for the transnational shareholders who have ultimate financial control in a declining market.
    Ever tightening emissions legislation, spiralling unit costs and continued high maintenance/servicing costs will ultimately nail it .

    • @hectorandem2944
      @hectorandem2944 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As electric ranges increase, simply the cost savings on fuel/charging will make ICE cars (eventually) uneconomical for individuals and fleet operators.

    • @davidpearn5925
      @davidpearn5925 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just another new opportunity opens up before even considering infrastructure development.

      @tacfoley that’s what Gina and Rupert expect from Conservative Governments of theirs .
      An industry in Australia has to overcome the dull witted Cons and it’s unique in the rest of the world.
      Tesla, the energy company, is South Australia’s saviour but also an embarrassment to Canberra.
      You wouldn’t read about it.
      YOU WON’T READ ABOUT IT.
      Oh, and a granny charger will do until the Tesla guy installs the 7kwh charger for your car. 1.4c/km
      Designed by the wind tunnel and updated free constantly.....sports performance and handling, minimal depreciation or maintenance.
      Ask me about my experience after 20k in 8 retired months if you like but you will have to put up with an OLD Tesla fanboy .

    Why do you keep saying it has *three (3) electric motors* when even BMW clearly states that there is *one (1) electric motor* whose output has been raised to 105kW / 143hp in 2018? The cutaway drawing shows evidence of a single electric motor driving both front wheels after being routed through a 2-speed gearbox. You are the only source I have ever heard claiming that there are 3 electric motors.

    • @seehayz
      @seehayz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are actually 2 electric motors, one 143 hp at the front and a 15hp at the rear that can drive the vehicle as well as start the engine. This small motor can also generate electricity via the engine to recharge the main battery when in sport mode.

    Great such quality in depth review of one of the biggest flops for BMW. These used i8's are selling so cheap on used car market! Have seen listing for 2019 Roadster model with 2,3k miles for only £67500 !! That is serious depreciation! 🤐🙄

    • @paulthorpe766
      @paulthorpe766 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Rico4you be £250,000 in 15-20 yrs though - last BMW EXOTIC THE E26 M1 was discounted 35% in 1979-82 too now £500,000!

      i Division about elektrifying BMW's entire gas fleet, they didn't build hybrid 2 seat roadster for volume or profit. Only a few 507 were built, today they auction for million$.

  • @TG-pd3ft
    @TG-pd3ft 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    These performance hybrids are simply ridiculous.
    It's the worth of both worlds and uses far more of the planets resources than a normal car.

    • @unowen-nh9ov
      @unowen-nh9ov 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Which is why BMW's EV market share>ICE as soon as they sold half million PHEV, BEV laggard Toyota actually biggest EV seller on million$ of Prius since last century.

  • @lefuedebout
    @lefuedebout 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Regardless of the output of the 3 cylinder engine, it's been a marketing disaster. For crying out loud, at the very least a 4 pot engine or even better still a 6 pot!

    • @unowen-nh9ov
      @unowen-nh9ov 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not the point of Green hybrid, now you can get 700+ bhp. Hybrid V8 in M5 because of this 3 cyl.

    Or ... get a Tesla Model S ... It's quicker, has 100x the practicality, is fully electric, has more spec and is priced similarly.

    • @indetrucks
      @indetrucks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      And they are everywhere... The i8 is for someone who wants to be different.

    • @johannesr.h.131
      @johannesr.h.131 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the Model S is definitely more practical! Just a different concept. The Tesla weights 2.100 kg and is a GT. The I8 is just an agile sports car.
