    squid jigs Egi fishing Selecting a good Coulor For Squid
    Squid Jigs And All the Hype ? Choosing the right Jig
    I can’t tell you which jig to select but I can share some information on how I select my jigs so I am going to keep this as basic as possible without getting too technical. I won’t be explaining the techniques on how to use the s quid jig (techniques, jigging, twitching, whatever you want to call it), but I will focus on where and how to find a squid so it will help you selected your jig in your area. You can simply Google the techniques eg: "how to work a squid jig
    Squid predominately hunt with their eyes , so when you fish for squid its best to find clean clear water in your region, combined with a reef bottom or broken ground. Depending on the tide and time of day depends on what type of lure you need to use. On a brighter day with clear water you should choose a lure with natural colours. Brown and Orange squid jigs are my preference in this situation. On a dark and cloudy day or if the water is murky I tend to use a lure with brighter/fluro colours such as yellow/green/pink. sounds easy right ? thats because it is .
    I personally don’t get to technical. Squid feed near the bottom so you just need to get your jig as close to the bottom as you can. I think about how deep the water is where I’m are going to be fishing. There are no rules to selecting the right jig size. I have caught many big squid on small jigs and vice/versa. Personally I prefer bigger jigs around 3.0 or 3.5 jig size and I believe that its in the technique of the fisherman to get the jig to dart around close to the bottom and to be in the right spots, in the right times .

    Love your vids mate. Full of great info. One thing i do in Port Phillip and esp Western Port when tides running is use a small ball sinker about 3 inches before a snap swivel and attach lure to get it down a bit when im casting and working the jig. Works well if you only have light squid jigs and/or the waters running hard. Also lets you change jigs quickly if one colour not working for you. Cheers again

    Thanks, good video. I’m a big fan of catching free bait, and I know some squid carcass on the hook helps catch some of what I’m after (like halibut)….
    I like to reach off the side of the dock and grab a small cluster of tube worms. I cut open the tubes and cut the worms down to 1/2 inch chunks and put those on number 8 hooks(same size I use for trout), and jig that up and down off the dock to catch the little surf perch hanging out there. After I catch 18 to 24 I’ll go out to where I’m fishing for halibut and put two perch at a time on the hook and fish 5 to 15 feet off the bottom.
    That said, I’d like to add a dead squid to the hook as well, thanks for your efforts to improve my halibut catch!

    • @ReedysRigs
      @ReedysRigs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      hi thanks yes it's a shimano sennia , a good size reel for just squid would be a 2500 , but i use my snapper reels which are 4000 size to catch them most of the time , which is way to big but still work & save space in my boat . , if im going out to catch only squid ill take just 2500 size reel , but it really dosent matter what size reel or brand you use . some function better then other's but all can do the job.

      Maybe it is the rod, a flexible rod will handle the squid pulls without ripping its tentacles, and you also can’t pull too hard and you should have a lose drag on your reel.
