As soon as you said “most new cruisers go to the buffet”... I knew where you were going with that. I was yelling at my computer”Nnnooo DONT DO IT!!!!” and then you did it. 😡. Going straight to Park Cafe on embarkation day was a best kept secret for veteran cruisers. You blew it. Thanks 😒...... 😁
You are so on point about peoples' behavior like that woman at the omelet station. 99.9% of the complaints I've ever had about cruising had nothing to do with the ship or the crew, it's always some oblivious, inconsiderate person who thinks the ship is their personal playground and that rules and common courtesy don't apply to them.
I love that I no longer have to carry dress clothes on cruises. It saves room and weight in luggage not to have to carry extra dress shoes and suits and dresses. Sorry, I do not miss formal dress nights. Every ounce in luggage cost money.
Exactly! I am not dressing up for Formal Night next year and I DON'T CARE who's offended or doesn't like it. Each to their own. I just want to relax and enjoy vacation. It's really NOT that serious.
I agree. If you dress up because you enjoy it, don't worry about what I have on. Formal nights and assigned dining suck, which is why we cruise Norwegian.
@@nawlinzrealtor Most ships have my time dinning now. We sailed on the new Celebrity Edge. Ship was ooh ah fancy. Most people never dressed up for dinner. We did not take dress clothes with us. We love Celebrity in our old age because less teens sail on Celebrity. When I did have teens they loved RCCL best. To each their own. Never had a bad time on any ship. We were on Carnival Ecstasy in 98 when it was on fire. My 8 yr old son at the time, said it was exciting. Everything we brought with us on the cruise was destroyed in the fire. That is the last time I got an inside cabin on the bottle deck. I always get a balcony room now so in case of emergency you have another way out. I still cruise. What are the odds that will happen to us again.
Exactly! We rolled in on formal night in the Main Dining Room, I had my Rock Revival ripped jeans on and my husband had his nice golf shorts on and we were treated like royalty! 💃👍🏼😎💋 Love that about them. If you want to dress up, that's fine, embrace your outfit and I will embrace the fact that in lieu of the cost of an entire outfit, I upgraded to the deluxe beverage package, the best Internet package and took the ship's "All Access Tour" all for a dress I will never wear again. Happy cruising, do it your way 🍾🥂 Cheers 💋
I just got off the Jewel of the Seas to the Southern Caribbean on January 12 2023. My one & only martini was $17.00! Usually we get the deluxe drink package but we find we were finding excuses to get cocktails. It fosters too much alcohol, IMO. This last cruise we skipped the deluxe package. We had about 4 drinks a day.
On all Oasis and Quantum class ships it is highly recommended that you make reservations for all the shows you wish to see ahead of time. You can do this before you set sail in the Cruise Planner on the Royal Caribbean website. The stand by line is for those guests who did not make a reservation for the show.
Those people waiting in line for the show did not have reservations, they were waiting in the stand-by line. You can pre-book all of the shows on the cruise planner section of RCL's website and secure your spot for the show.
That is not true for the shows as far as waiting for seats. Reservations for all entertainment can be made months in advance using the cruise planner on the internet. In no way do you ever have to wait for a seat. All you do is show up, they scan your card, realize that you have a reservation and you walk right in. It's for those who don't make a reservation that they will have to wait in line or any available seats. I have been on the allure, The Oasis, and Harmony and they all function the same way.
shadow03clb it was really interesting this go around. We actually could not make reservations for shows until 59 days before the cruise. They changed their policy at least this go around. I even called the cruise line several times asking why I could not make show reservations. Keep that in mind for the future. Also you are correct - once the line goes through and if there is no more line you can just walk right in. But our experience this time around was people were waiting in line an hour prior to the show even up to the show start. For example the comedy line reservation line at comedy show with reservations was long and the line with no reservations was really long. I don’t find that to be true on every ship but that was our experience for the symphony and the week we were onboard. I am guessing it will level out in the future.
shadow03clb The thing about the seats is if you want a better seat selection you will get there earlier and wait in line because first come is first served.
Thx for video guys! Love oasis class too. Symphony looks gorg and is on my must do list. We do WJ or specialty dining on formal night cause we are too lazy to dress up!
Dan Klassen for us - we have never booked an excursion there so that could be part of our challenge. So if you are walking around on your own you are bombarded with constant pressure from the locals to come with them. It feels kind of unfriendly compared to other ports we have visited . I did read an article that they are updating the cruise port. We ended up walking to a beach a mile away and we were able to snorkel there but just not our favorite port.
Book an excursion on Nassau or head over to the British Colonial Resort for a beach/pool day. I booked a tour to Blue Lagoon and really enjoyed my Nassau day. I never even went into town.
Thank You: God willing everything will come together. I could be taking one if not the first post shutdown cruise. The seven nighter this Sept. 19, 2020 (:
Thank you for the review and I just subscribed to your channel. We are booked for November 2019 for the 50th Anniversary of RC. They promise lots of top name entertainment so we are looking forward to being on Symphony. I agree with you about the attire in the Main Dining Room has become so relaxed. I can almost look past the jeans or even shorts but what I can't stand is when men are wearing ball caps ! It always seems to be men under 35 who were maybe never taught to take off your hat at the dining table.
My experience is that the drinks package would not include a $15 Martini. We did Harmony in November and the cut off point for drinks was $12 in the package. As you said, drinks are very expensive on Oasis class ships and have got more so over the last few years. But then again , personally we don't cruise to drink. Great tips though as we are cruising on her on a back to back in September/October. Thanks.
They actually have increased the "included" drink price limit on the Oasis class ships for the drink package to coincide with the increased drink prices. I think it is either $13 or $14 before gratuities (which could explain the $15). This still includes most of the drinks on the menu with minor exceptions (mainly in the wine listings)
Hey guys...we just found your channel. Nice job! We are sailing on the Anthem of the Seas over Thanksgiving. I was curious if you've done any Quantum Class ships?
LOL! I was amazed at the disembarkation process, too - I walked away thinking that I must have missed a line somewhere and someone would tackle me as I walked out the big glass doors out to my Lyft. I was on Mariner that week - I can't wait to get on Symphony (wish it wasn't still a year away!!). At least I have Ovation and Navigator to get me through until then. Great video, thanks for sharing your experience!
I love your comments about symphony of the seas. I have been on all oasis class ships more than once and symphony is even better. It’s great that you dwell on the positive rather than negative. However there’s very little negative to be said about the symphony!! Thanks much!!
We were on the Symphony last week and couldn't get a sunbed anywhere any day no matter how early we got up. People tend to put their towels on them seems to me by 6am and leave them there all day long . Never seen so many sunbed with towels on them and no people.???? Is this the norm?? They have signs everywhere saying you can't do this but they do nothing if you do.
Look for the pool steward and ask. A lot of times they will find chairs for you and take any items left to the towel station. Your right they all seem to be taken...but be proactive. This has worked for us in the past.
I have been crushing for over 16 years. 3 years ago I decided to make every night formal night for myself and I love it. Just got off a cruise 3 weeks ago with my granddaughters we dressed every night for dinner. On our last night this sweet couple came up to our table and told us how Beautiful we looked all week.
So nice to here we are not the only one that dress up for dinner. Our cruises we all my daughter, my grandson ,my son-in-law and myself always had dresses , gowns , dinner jackets and we loved dressing for dinner we also dress up for going out to home town dinners. No shabby looking family here .
Only things I hated about our Symphony Of The Seas cruise back in Dec: 1. Smoking in the casino. Couldn't get within 10 m of the entrance without choking on the smell. 2. This one is out of RC control so def not their fault by any means just a personal thing....kids! Children in bars at late hours, especially. Kinda wish RC would offer adults only trips once in awhile, they'd be good competition for Virgin.
With 225,000gt of space, you don't feel it. Other ships that have 45-5000 people are barely 180,000gt. There's just so much space. Where you see the crowds is if too many want to see the same show at same time, just go to a different venue. There are so many things going on.
Wait...You have to make reservations for the shows??? And then wait a half hour to get in? No thanks! My vacation time is way too precious for waiting around. I considered RCCL for our next cruise but this was a deal breaker. We’ll stick with Celebrity.
Great video!!! This is the first review I have seen that liked Wonderland restaurant. Everyone raves about the setting but most reviews I have seen/read said the food was underwhelming.
My family and I ate at Wonderland on the harmony of the seas and we were not impressed as well. I guess it depends what type of cooking you're used to, but if you come from a family of cooks, good Cooks, the food is not going to impress you. For the price, it's just not worth the food. It's basic food that they put an elaborate twist on. For instance, the first thing they bring out are just deviled eggs. But, they make it seem special by putting it in an enclosed plate, that when the lid is lifted, steam escapes. And, they just rename it buffalo chicken eggs. If you've ever had a deviled egg oh, that's all it is. And if there's only two in your party, you only get two eggs. They then brought out a caprese salad. A shrimp wrapped in a fried noodle type ingredient. Nothing is special about the food. I come from a family of really good cooks and for the price of $55 a person, I think I'd rather have a really good steak at chops.
@@shadow03clb I've heard that about Wonderland. I think the only way I'd entertain the idea of going is if I had a dining package (which brings the price down significantly).
Heather, I am with you on formal nights. Please RC, do not change formal nights. I am a mother of two with little time to dress up ...ever. Out of 365 days of the year, I have only 2 days where I can dress in a gown and that is on my yearly cruise. I don't care if everyone else is in jeans, I am wearing my gown on formal nights. If you look at the old movies, how cute were they all dressed up all the time on their sea voyages? Even when they were lounging on a sunbed, they had a suit and tie...haha.
Great video. My wife and I will be on Symphony next month. Since this is our first cruise we opted for the drink package. That way we didn't have to worry about how much we were spending. Also props to Lori Spoelstra for telling us about your channel.
michelle ellis - I don’t think you would have any way to use it. Unfortunately. You could just order coffee in the morning to be delivered to your room. :)
The ship is lovely, but a smaller cruise ship with 1/4 the people is so nice. There isn't all the crowds, no waiting around, excellent seats at shows, develop long lasting personal relationships with entertainment staff that last past the cruises. These brand new mega ships have lots of amenities, but when you just want to relax and get away an older ship with less cabins makes the experience more intimate. Formal night is pretentious and very few people actually want that night anymore. They should just change the nights name to "Lobster and steak on the menu night." But in polls dropping formal night won.
We sailed on the Symphony of the Seas in early Dec.and I found this ship to be extremely crowded. This was our 5th oasis cruise and it was by far our worse cruise. We experienced poor service in the main dining room one evening and we had horrible service at hooked at sea. Not only did we have to stand in line well before each show started but we had to put up with people constantly trying to cut in front of us or push their way in. Forget trying to participate in any of the trivia games. There was never any seating available. Also, the sign that says unattended items will be removed from chairs, is just for show. Not once did I see this happen, even though seats would be empty for hours at time.
I’m sorry you disliked your cruise. We did Oasis 4 years ago and Symphony last month in Feb 2019. It was wonderful!!!! We found Hooked delicious and the service impeccable. We went on night one and it set the tone. We also had no issues doing the trivia contests and did a 70’s music one and Royal Caribbean trivia contests. We missed the Beatles vs Queen one because we went to the family friendly comedy show on the last night.
We were also on Symphony early December. It was very crowded as you said and no empty chairs for hours on end. We had a bad service in main dining room and we complained. Maitre d had us come the following night and promised us each a filet mignon dinner and a bottle of wine. He also said he would make sure we were well taken care of. He came through on all his promises. He actually gave us a $100 bottle of wine on top of the filets at no charge. We had our own server the entire time and made sure we were happy. Let them know when they fall short. People were awful with trying to get in front of lines. Also someone broke the art that hung in the hallway of the casino as that is where they would have to line up for ice skating and laser tag. People were so rude as well. I've cruised many times, this being our first on Royal and we were very disappointed.
I have been to so many formals that I am tired of dressing that way. On dressy nights I will wear cocktail dress or slacks and a sparkly shirt or the like.
Dress up all you want. Every night!! Don’t expect the rest of us to. Leave us alone. Plus, and this is a big one, think about the price of airfare these days. To dress up every night like we did in the beginning of cruising we would need twice the luggage that we do now. As I said, to each his own, if you want to dress up, FINE, I don’t want to. Don’t judge. Chill.
David Bach don't worry about what I'm wearing, which isn't what you described anyway. When I'm on the ships that aren't as lax, I do dress up, when I'm on a more casual ship & they don't require it or make a fuss about it, I will dress casually. So, you go eat in the buffet.
We didn't do all the stuff they did but we never had to wait in a line and never had to wait for a table in the Main Dining Room. We also did My Time dining but we would show up around 8 or 9 at night. It was wonderful!
Greatly dislike formal night - people look down on us because we do not dress-up. We are paying for this dining experience and don't care what you wear...why do you care that we are more casual than "formal" - Getting to the dining room s a big effort for my disabled husband. If he changes his clothes to go, there would be no energy left to get to the dining room, Chill out - it's vacation time!
I don’t think that you guys are honest with everything you guys said.. I felt that it was more your opinion more that what really was.. Disney’s cruise don’t discriminate like royal those.. and the formal night is not for everyone so keep to your self.. not everybody fill the same👎🏼

Yeah, I'm that girl too, Rob! Not a germaphobe but just cautious.
When are you guys posting videos from symphony? I only see this one and the slide
Thanks for watching, Robert! Very soon.
and I'm looking for a ship with a Starbucks. yes.
Yeah, people are rude. If you want an omelette get in line. I have to wear a tie everyday. I don't want to dress up on vacation. Just my opinion
That's rude of the omelette lady.
That is my one gripe is people not dressing up for formal nights. It ruins it for everyone if you don't dress up.
I have been to so many formals that I am tired of dressing that way. On dressy nights I will wear cocktail dress or slacks and a sparkly shirt or the like.
Why does what I wear “ruin it” for everyone else?
I agree, how does what I choose to wear ruin it for everyone elee? If you don't like what I'm wearing......look away!,,,
dont disrespect nassau ok. u may not like my country but dont be trying to convince others not to come
9:53 …oh boy you just wait
Dress up all you want. Every night!! Don’t expect the rest of us to. Leave us alone. Plus, and this is a big one, think about the price of airfare these days. To dress up every night like we did in the beginning of cruising we would need twice the luggage that we do now. As I said, to each his own, if you want to dress up, FINE, I don’t want to. Don’t judge. Chill.
Dale Griffey well said champion were coming from Australia no room for dress up.
Exactly. We are on vacation to relax, not be dressed up & stiff.
@@sheriloatwall4070 If you wear tank tops, shorts and flip flops, eat in the buffet.
David Bach don't worry about what I'm wearing, which isn't what you described anyway. When I'm on the ships that aren't as lax, I do dress up, when I'm on a more casual ship & they don't require it or make a fuss about it, I will dress casually. So, you go eat in the buffet.
@@sheriloatwall4070 Most main dining rooms have dress standards: Collared shirts, no sandals, and no shorts. If you can't comply, eat at the buffet.
sounds like alot of reservation making and waiting in lines
We didn't do all the stuff they did but we never had to wait in a line and never had to wait for a table in the Main Dining Room. We also did My Time dining but we would show up around 8 or 9 at night. It was wonderful!
First thoughts about the video - if you're going to do reviews legitimately, you should get some good microphones...maybe lapel mics or something.
We aren’t fans for dressing up on formal night - go for it - why care how others dress
April 2021
yaaawn.
I agree 100%, talk, talk and more talk, could have been a 2 minute video NOT 21 minutes!! Thank you
Greatly dislike formal night - people look down on us because we do not dress-up. We are paying for this dining experience and don't care what you wear...why do you care that we are more casual than "formal" - Getting to the dining room s a big effort for my disabled husband. If he changes his clothes to go, there would be no energy left to get to the dining room, Chill out - it's vacation time!
"I'm kind of a germaphobe" ... no videos uploaded since covid lol
What is the problem with the hands, I don't want to see them
Why all the fuss about a coffee table, look where you are going, you know it's there.
How is my not dressing formally hurting your experience? Not very open minded! That’s disappointing to me.
THAT LADY WAS RUDE, WE HAVE HAD THE SAME HAPPEN TO US !!!!
Omelette abuse . . . . I hate when folks do that . . .
I don’t think that you guys are honest with everything you guys said.. I felt that it was more your opinion more that what really was.. Disney’s cruise don’t discriminate like royal those.. and the formal night is not for everyone so keep to your self.. not everybody fill the same👎🏼
dress clothes take up too much room in luggage. sorry I am one of the people not dressed for formal night
Your husband is a square! 📐
lol
Bad cruise
These two would be speechless if they took their hands away.
Great video, very helpful!
