  • Hi Everyone!! Happy Sunday! Here I am showing you how I installed our new bathroom floor myself. I am new to the whole DIY Reno scene so this is easy enough for beginners and hopefully you will learn what you can do, what you should avoid and if nothing else stick to the end to see the beautiful results!!

Quick Tip from an old man! Use poster board on those hard-to-cut tiles. Mark it. Cut it out, Then try it to see if it fits. If it doesn't, just use small pieces of the leftover poster board to fill in your mistakes and tape them to the first piece you used. Once your collection of cutouts fits, just lay it on top of your tile and mark and cut it out. Poster board is MUCH cheaper than tile and by adding pieces to your original attempt, you will end up with the proper pattern. Another trick is to leave on your baseboard molding and use an oscillating saw laid on top of one of your new pieces of tile to undercut the molding. This works great on the door frame, too. Then, you can just slide your tile under the moldings and frame . That's how the pros do it.

Thanks! We removed the baseboards because they were old and we were replacing them throughout the house but that’s great advice for future projects! Thanks so much!

I'm not sure how I came across your video, but I decided to watch it. You did a very good job. I'm a licensed contractor and I do a ton of flooring. I was impressed with your determination to make it work. I especially liked your comment about wasting a bunch of tiles trying to make a cut work out for you, 😆. Trust me, you are not the only one who does that. Even the most experienced of us do the same. I did find your video VERY entertaining. I gotta admit, I was really laughing at your expense watching you struggle. I do the same thing with my helpers when they are new. I know it's bad, but, still. But I was impressed that you did not give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always tell my helpers, if you are attempting to make tricky cuts using a tape measure, you are going about it the wrong way because the walls are never straight and angles are never true. I'm sure you figured that out. I just use a straight edge ( or whatever works) along the walls to draw projection lines, this will account for any walls or angles that are not true.
But because you had the determination to get it done, you succeeded and that's all it takes. Next time you do it, you will be better than before. Keep at it and soon you will be a pro.

Looks amazing! I am 57 year old woman. Been divorced for a year and a half. After 18 years together, he did all these things, only real tile. BUT, you inspired me to try to update my master bathroom. I loved how you used construction paper to get that hard to cut tile cut! Great idea! I am like you on the cutting. I quilt and it takes me forever to get going because I am terrified I will measure and cut wrong. If you only have so much material of your patterns then you certainly can't spare too many screw ups! I measure and measure and measure and then pray abd CUT! 😱. I loved your video...thank you young lady!

On the one hand, super ingenious idea to use grout on vinyl tiles to make them look like real tile as well as add some dimension to the floor. On the other hand, I wonder how the grout (which is hard) will hold up to the soft tile that is made to flex. If there are any issues, you can always use blue painters tape to mask and then apply colored silicone to get a similar effect.

Cool project, great work! I'm very happy that someone found grouting these tiles easy. I'm in the middle of this exact project & I'm almost in tears. I have white & gray peel & stick vinyl tiles, with iron gray grout made for vinyl tiles. Every time I wipe with the sponge, it's wiping the grout out of the cracks between the tiles. I tried wiping lighter, wiping super carefully so I wouldn't touch the cracks....nothing works. 35% of the grout I put in the cracks is being wiped out by the time I wipe the tiles clean. Im wiping immediately & doing very small sections. I went back over 50% of the cracks with more grout to fill them in, I let it sit for 8 mins thinking it would get a bit more dry in the cracks & not wipe off as easily. Now, I'm trying very hard to scrub it off the tiles with a scouring pad. & guess what, it's still coming back out of the cracks. A complete nightmare! I'm so defeated. Sorry guys. Just venting! I'm a pretty avid DIYer, but I've never grouted before. 1st & last time. 😢😮

It's too late for this project, but next time you have to cut a tricky piece, make a paper pattern. I use brown paper and push/crease it against the wall, cut it out and re-fit it into place. If there are gaps or places where you over trimmed, which there always are, I just tape smaller pieces of paper into the spaces until it fits perfectly. Remove it, trace it onto your tile and cut. Works great.

Hi Amanga. I am new to tiling also. What i learned from looking at tutorials is to make template using bristol board the same size of your tile and use them before cutting your tile
    to avoid waste. Glenna

I came across your video as I bought Herringbone vinyl tiles, but did not realise until after I lay the first box 😳. I lay the first row and there was a carpet grip on the edges as the last occupant had carpet in the bathroom. Thought I could work round it but the flooring did not lay flat at the edge, so decided to try and remove it. Success YEPPIE! Then came the problem of the edges being on a slight curve, plus the flooring needed a bit of supper glue to stay. By the second row I noticed some gapping so went online and realised you can buy putty (out of stock😳😳). So I am going to use pre-mixed grout to fill in the gaps. I feel your frustration. At least you laid yours down first to see how you wanted it. I was tunnel vision and decide I would lay it vertically🤣🤣🤣.

I'm about to install same flooring but different color, what I did first created mold copies from card bore pieces to cut my tile to measurements specially on those difficult areas behind the toilet. I noticed you used grout around the toilet FYI use silicone instead next time, other then that you did a fantastic job 👍

Add mirrors to make your bathroom look larger...:-) Nice work! Also, easy to cut with heavy duty sicsors, with paper still stuck to back of tile. I make templates for difficult areas using paper.

Ok girl I have some exciting news! I did my kitchen! It is AMAZING I love it and the grout is super awesome. I staggered them and I used bright white non sand grout. I had the same problem with the grout tab things. I eye balled it too. I also had a hard time learning to cut them too. lol

BTW: sometimes using a paper template helps. That way you can adjust the paper more easily and then trace it on the tile.
