I watch most all of your videos and they have saved me from a number of regrettable purchases. Thanks for all you do for the sim community. Also really enjoy your fun flights with mistakes I also make.
An Avenger of 845 Sqd FAA shot down a V1 over the English Channel. The TBF was on an anti-ship patrol when the V1 came along and started to overtake it. The turret gunner shot it down.
With the sourcing of models in some cases and modern texture software its considerably easier and the bar is far higher. Take this from a texture artist.
Oohh I love this one. One of my fave WW2 era planes. I think I may have seen one of these in an aircraft carrier in NYC in the year 2000 that's an aerospace museum. It's a very big plane up close. Reminds me of the Squadron of Avengers that went missing over the Bermuda triangle i read about which was spooky.
I'm very much interested in any warbirds that are half-way decent. But for this one I will wait and see how things develop on the update front. After the unfulfilled PAC 750 promises I'm very cautious about Orbx aircraft (love their Caribou, though!). I'll have another look at the Avemger a few months down the road.
Great Review of the 2024 version of the Grumman ! Perhaps our Fallen Angel would care to return from 'the Dark Side' and carry out a similar Review in Flightsim 2020 where everything seems to function rather well with the Grumman.
"Texturing and modeling is very good, but that's not hard these days" Meanwhile a team of 3D-Artists responsible for this aircraft looking at this video with a thousand-yard stare while holding an energy drink just not to collapse during another day of crunching. Not hard at all, sure
Im a texture artist myself, so yes I’ll stand by this as being an expectation now not an achievement . Either way other sloppy parts of this it’s not a work of love , even the manual and page description are ai generated
I was very disappointed with the flight model and sound on this one, so I replaced the sound folder and (AERODYNAMICS) and (FLIGHT TUNING) parts of flight_model.cfg file, with data copied from the Milviz Corsair. Now it sounds and flies great!
I wish I had watched this review before I rushed in to buy it. Agree with all your criticisms. Just unpleasant to fly. No easy access to the other compartments. Etc etc. Hopefully Orbx will get its act together quickly- or risk more brand damage.
I've looked at bunch of videos of this product and noticed it's only GPS option for cockpit That's a massive deal breaker for me I much prefer no GPS and actually having the cockpit look exactly as it did during the war
I think that is the issue. The MSFS 2024 gives us aircraft that deletes all pics and representation of anything that has to do with war. No guns. No bombs. Anything to do with violence.
What this aircraft is, it was released in this state so that they can beat the race for new FS2024 aircraft. We had the same when FS2020 first came out where there was a lot of crap released because there were no other options. Visually it's not a bad aircraft. But everything else should have stayed in development for at least another few months to make it better. But by that time another aircraft could have been released by someone else that could be better and they could miss out on profits. And this was released by ORBX who normally release great stuff. Plus they have been a part of the sim's development so they should have made this much better. Great review by the way. Love thee cobra maneuvers. 😂
I went into the flight model cfg and changed the pitch sensitivity to 1 and the elevator effectiveness to 0.5. Feels better now, but you’re right, it’s a fairly basic product.
Given how beautiful this is, and the reasonable price, I will most likely pick this up once it hits the marketplace. I have a soft spot for pacific war aircraft and can forgive some flaws and hope they sort them out with time.
Can you put one of the aftermarket pilots of your own in the cockpit? The reason i'm asking is because I just bought the new T7 Red Hawk, and that is not an option. It has no pilot, and you can not add one, and that includes default or aftermarket.
An excellent (and fair) review of a mediocre offering. I know Paul, and this aircraft, and I find it difficult to believe that he had more than passing input into this. However, on a lighter note, terrific to see Ant's Tiger Moth and Winjeel (and pilots!) available now for MSFS 2024, and they fly beautifully.
I held off once I seen Orbx was the developer. They are good at scenery but when it comes to actually making planes they cut corners and don’t give it the love the plane deserves.
Yeah... watching you land after the cobra incident. I hate to pass on a warbird but it really is looking like this one needs more time in the oven. Shame too... President George HW Bush's bird in WWII. It needs a bit more love than it has gotten from what I am seeing here. Oh yeah Midway has tons of runway room. It is my "super top secret" msfs vehicle testing site. LOL. In any event, thank you for the honest review!
It's a Grumman, and a famous warbird, so I gotta get it. But first.... I need the AvAngel review of it. 8 minutes in... ok maaaaaybe I WON'T get it just because it is a Grumman and a famous warbird. Seriously, this is starting to look like bargain basement birds here.
I love warbirds for flight simulator 2020 and 2024 but I'll have take a pass on this until updates from the developer fix its issues visuals are one thing flight models are just as important if neither are perfect than I'm not wasting my money on a sub par product that just looks good .
I have a minor theory about pilot figures. I have noticed in career mode pilots are very buggy, I would bet if Asobo doesn't have them working right, 3rd party devs, could be avoiding them until they work better. People riding on outside of planes is too Twilight zone for me. I have been enjoying some of the bugs they are, funny. I have been getting this one a lot my copilot looks like she is getting close to retirement, all very reasonable so far, but her AI voice lines are like James Earl Jones, It took me a good 5 minutes to figure it wasn't ATC talking. They also have animated mouths which look very cool and real when they work, very creepy when they aren't, happy they are disabled for the most part waiting for a fix.

Nice!
For the looks of it a typically ORBX aircraft Good looking but half-baked.
Thanks AvAngel. Saved me money today 😊
Thanks so much. I shall wait for an appreciable upgrade I think.
Great video again, Angel.
Bestest,
Barty
Not going to happen, OrbX has never ever updated their aircraft for MSFS.
MY feeling as well
Thanks for the objective review!
To open and close the canopy you have to click both side latches. It won’t do it just by clicking one side. Great video!
good to know!
4:18 "Texturing and Modeling Not so hard these days" gotta be the most stupid comment I've ever heard

Fallen? Little harsh… honestly afraid not atom as I cannot justify buying this twice
@@AvAngel No need to buy twice as one purchase fits all. Kind Regards from two of your Fans.
This version is a TBM 3-E Avenger! I am a maintainer on one just like it.

AvAngel out looking for the Japanese carriers. Watch out for Zeroes! 😁

Engine view. "Always wanted one of those" 😅😅

Thanks for frank review. I trust you to tell it like it used to. I did not get the sense of size. Looked a little squatty.
I can't wait for the developer to fix this thing because I have a soft spot for this beast...
Ooo this does not seem great. Thanks for the review!

I’d grab the flying iron f6 if you don’t have it… waaay nicer. Also I want a dauntless really bad!
@AvAngel Yes, I love the F6 🤩 I also have the Corsair, wildcat and lightning.
@@AvAngelor a B5N2 not much love for the Japanese in simulation.

I used to use it for my testbed spot in FSX days :D

George HW Bush flew avengers…. If only one other livery was to be included, that is insane to me that it isn’t.
You’re hilarious in your description of the plane.. looks pretty but flys like junk!! Good review
Not cut out letters from a magazine! lolololol
Heard the pilot is visible in MSFS 2020
Yes, 2020 has it working by legecy, this is NOT 24 native so it won't show as back compatability is currently not perfectly functional.
the sound of the engines in external view on 2024 is unforgiveable. basic generic ga propellor sound dominates with an idling radial... what a crock..

It’s port overs, this is not native
Beautiful!
Shame it is not full-featured.
No pilot. No rear gun or rear gunner.
It's not ready for release.
Pass!
lol no pilot for 2024. can only see in 2020.
It’s awful! To close the canopy you have to use both side canopy clips not just one.
Cobra Lol....not a promising one
To be fair it’s not meant to be able to come close lol
