How to use an Acapella in managing respiratory secretions

Ty, this was the first simple and clear explanation I found to share with my elderly Mom. She wasn't feeling sure of how to use this device correctly, so I appreciate the details on how to use and how to clean.

Greg I had the lung surgery VATS and blepactomy done in march and I have COPD and bronchitesis and some emphysema.
Now I have the green acapella I got and I want to make sure I'm correctly using this .
I do have a loculated hydropneumothorax in the apex of the lung that is very small and stable that they could not remove.
Will this acapella hurt this area .
Now when i use this device explain to me the resistance arrows
I am starting at lowest one.
Do I just take a deep breath and then steadily exhale for 5 seconds.
How many times do I do this each session.
What if I dont need to cough ?
How long do I continue this for each session and what if I get a cough after and it's very dry no mucus ?
How do I make the mucus flow upward

I've had this terrible cough for a month now and blew out my back messing it so hard & painful to cough. Did this help you at all?
