Another way that I have done it is to hand baste the zipper in place after pining it. Then, remove the pins, sew and remove the basting stitches. I do have the wonder tape and clips. I used both.

First off ... LOVE YOUR HAIR! Your videos are the absolute best. But for some reason, no matter how careful I am making sure the zipper is straight, the fabrics on both ends somehow aren't lined up after I stitch them. I hand-basted one side in place, then tacked on the other side by pinning, and ultimately sewed one half, pulled zipper tab to the other end, stitched it and finally got a perfect looking zipper. Can you give me an idea why my fabric slips? Too much tension or something like that? Happens every time. I'm currently making lots (hopefully) of your little wristlet purses. They look amazing when done. Keep up the videos. GREAT JOB!

Hi Vanessa, I just found this video and made a Halloween tote bag with the recessed zipper. I’ve been sewing for over 50 years but have always avoided zippers. It turned out pretty darn good for my first try. I am well pleased with it. Thank you. My question is, do I need to cut my lining 1/2 inch longer, to use a back and front sewn together at the bottom with a 1/4 inch seam? I’m already thinking ahead to an autumn bag, winter, spring and summer. I can chance bags with the seasons. Again, many thanks for this awesome tutorial.

Thank you for yet another great video! I thoroughly enjoy your teaching style and the fact that you so readily share your knowledge. I’ve got a quick question about using the zipper foot. It seems I’m doing something wrong as most times my zipper ends up sewn too close which makes opening and closing the zip very difficult. Do you butt the side of the zipper foot right up to the zipper? Where should your needle be....there, right up to the zipper teeth?

Zips. Yay. Thanks. Can I please ask if you can do a similar one on Buttons and button holes. Because I don't understand why we have sooo many button hole types and choices on a sewing machine. Why does my machine have so many button holes. Surely 1 or 2 should be enough. This request from a new sewer who's not done many buttonholes yet cos I find zips easier

I know they sell rolls of zipper tape and packs of pulls. I always thought that you needed a special tool to reattach a zipper pull, and wondered how that tool worked! I tried putting them back on myself, but it never worked. Who knew you had to turn the zipper pull around and put it on backwards! That makes perfect sense. It never occurred to me that the zipper teeth could work with the tab both ways. Silly, that I never thought of that, but I guess that's because I never cut off the ends; w/out that, your trick wouldn't work. This was really informative. What do you do for a zipper already installed in a bag? (This has happened to me with ready made, but the bag (leather) was still good.) Do you have to remove the zip & reinstall? I was worried the stitch holes wouldn't line up, and it would weaken the leather around the zipper.
