  • In this video I am swapping out the rear wheel bearing on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. It's AWD and an easy bearing to replace. At least for a rust belt car it is.
    -Enjoy!

I just did the front bearings on the wife’s 2002 Liberty Sport, they were so seized on I had to use the cutting torch to get them off, your right about domestic auto makers they could’ve used some ingenuity back then.

Way easier than front wheel bearings on my daughter's 03 Outback. Didn't involve a hydraulic press or a torch. Thanks to you I got it done though. You showed me the tip of getting the race off of the hub with a torch. Worked like a charm. Thank you Eric O!

I always use the carwash at Mobil stations here in Illinois. They have touchless with the undercarriage douch. Also have a couple of spray cans of fluid film around. My mechanic say the undercarriage looked like new at my last oil change. My Outback is 10 years old and always driven in northern illinois but always washed and garaged.

    Another day, another SMA Video.
Had a rough night and a bad start to my morning. A hot cup of coffee, a biscuit and an SMA Video brightened the mood immensely.
Thanks Eric. Thank you for that video. I know that sometimes the day to day business can seem monotonous and the stuff you do "is just your job". Some days I wish I could help out as a part time job in stuff like that. My job is IT heavy - that means pushing mails and spreadsheets. You don't even see what you have done at the end of the day.
Keep up the great work and I appreciate your videos - even if it's the 500th Bearing swap. Always relaxing and always entertaining to see you work.

Just did two front wheel bearing hubs on a 2012 Ram up in the Peoples Republic of Ontario for the last 8 hours. They fought me every-single-inch of the way! Chisels, air hammer, sledge and a 1/2 gallon of penetrating oil. Bruised cut and tired but I won. The truck put up a fight but gave in. Now I'm relaxing all proud at my accomplishment watching you knock out a bearing hub in less than 14 minutes. Sighhhh.

Herro, My name is Ha-yoon Kim. I'm carring from Hyundai North America with some great new about your 2017 Santa Fe. We would like you to know that our engeneers have worked hard to create wheel bearings that meet or exceed our competition with the added benefit of being very easy to replace if that is needed. Those same engineers are responsible for your engine using an excessive amount of oil. The failure rate is near 100%. You can rest easy knowing that we have set aside $2 billion this year to cover the warranty of these engines.

And while changing from my summer tires to winter tires yesterday I grabbed the tire at 3 and 9 o’clock and noticed there was quite a bit of wiggle, so I’m thinking the wheel bearing is shot too, but it’s still quiet as a mouse. My son recently replaced both axles on my 2011 Honda Odyssey. Having watched you do multiple axles and wheel bearings, I wanted to put some fluid film on the inside of the part where the axle goes like you did in this video. He said we shouldn’t. He’s an apprentice mechanic, level 2 (so he has one more year before he can get licensed). So I wanted to know why this might be okay or why some might say not to do this. Thanks!

It won't help or hurt it's operation. We fluid film ours or give it a light coating of grease/anti sneeze when we assemble. The main purpose is to ensure the next time it needs to be dissembled or monkeyed with- It won't be seized up in the hub. It's only a very light coating and no need to go hog wild with it.

210 FT POUNDS? When i replaced the steering box and pitman arm on my 96 Grand Cherokee i left the old pitman arm on and replaced the new box with a new pitman arm, torque was about 200 pounds, a lot laying on my back, my torque wrench went up to 150 so i hit 150 then a breaker bar maybe another 1/8 of a turn. I recently bought a 2023 Tuscon SEL AWD with the convenience package. 31 mpg highway is certainly respectable for a SUV, cruises at 70 mph revving only 2000 on level ground with the new 8 speed and makes acceleration acceptable. Smart CC automatically downshifts to maintain speed on inclines and also declines along with braking, simply amazing. I was thinking of a new Grand Cherokee but for the huge price difference i went with the H.
