Not so sure about that. Popular sportsmen get forgiven like them, Ben Cousins and Wayne Carey. Others aren't so lucky. Its not a matter of what you did, its a matter of who you are and which 'big boys' you annoyed.
I grew up watching the great West Indian team of the 80's, then seeing Australia be blessed with some fantastic sides / players and i believe I may never see a team of talented players, in the one side like that again in my lifetime. Somewhere along the way, the culture of the Australian cricket side diminished. I think, Cricket Australia wanted this current side to be good as the previous Australian teams (Allan Border/Mark Taylor/Steve Waugh era) and focused on winning at all costs rather than playing cricket in the way it should be played. I too as an Australia, was starting to dislike the culture. I was deeply hurt and embarrassed by what actions those 2 men did, and for Steve Smith for not standing up, being a true captain, a being a real leader. I was not alone in these feelings as you can see by this documentary all of Australia were hurt and angry with what they did. I like how the 3 players punishments were harsh by Cricket Australia. But I don't feel lifetime bans (as mentioned by some people) were warranted or justified considering how many ball tampering incidents I have see in all my years of watching cricket and the punishment being handed down to those players. This was a great documentary, although, as an Australian, it was hard to watch. I am, however, glad these guys were caught. Maybe, just maybe, this can be the thing that changes the Australian culture in the way cricket as it should be played. If they lose they lose, if they win, they win. As long as they play the game honestly and in the spirit of the game, that's all that counts (winning would be nice though). Australia, based on the next test, is already trying to fix this toxic culture. I hope this continues. I hope everyone from all sports can look at this as an example and see that there is no room in sports for cheating. The impacts it makes to fellow players, their families and most importantly the fans. I hope these 3 players learn from their mistake and come back, bigger, better and show us they can play this game in a way it should be played. Well done South Africa for a well deserved series win. Well done SuperSport for a great documentary. Thank you or taking the time to ready my comments.

Such a quality production. I come back and watch this every year or so. They capture the narrative so well, with the unfolding over events in time. I wonder what the principal personalities involved have learned, looking back. On a deep level, not just in terms of how to manage tactics and appearance. On my bucket list, to one day go to Newlands and watch a test match from the side of the ground looking across at Table Mountain, what a glorious backdrop. And as always, RIP Shane Warne.
@@divyanshudubey6418 I like the term escapegoat but in serious the bowlers knew full well what was going on and that got scot free. I know the bucks stop with the captain but Smith got the raw end of the deal and the actual culprits were never really caught
Since they have come back after the ban, smith and warner are totally different. Smith has become a run machine but also showing good sportsmanship even during the game. Applauding great deliveries from people like jack leach. While warner seems to have decided to give his wicket to Stuart broad in the first over every game.
The measure of a captain should be based on how his players conduct themselves on the field. In this respect, and based on how Australia have behaved against India, Smith is still a disgrace.
This is a great production! Cricket definitely needs more films like this. I also think SA does not get as much media coverage as the big three (AUS, ENG, IND). Yes, the big three are great sides but I think SA has always been as strong as those sides (in Tests) over a long period of time. But their rivalry with the big three sides is not given enough nice film productions and media spice like the Ashes or Border-Gavaskar series etc. ENG, AUS and IND also have great broadcasters (Nasser Hussein, Michael Atherton, Harsha Bhogle etc.) they are always discussing the rivalries and build up to the series with the big three for Ashes and Border-Gavaskar series but SA is not really doing this on the same level. It is sad...
New Zealand never get the props, consecutive 50 over finals, the second one was never lost (the umpires mucked up and should have never gone to a super over) t20 final and world test champions, thrashing India with everything stacked against them. Only a handful of Australian cricketers objected to the severity of the punishments. The vast majority of Australians were howling for blood and wanted even harsher punishments. The outcry was so severe the Australian Prime Minister had to step in and condemn the cheaters (as shown in this documentary). I know the rest of the cricket world hated the Australian team at the time but the local public was only a step behind. Most Aussie fans I know welcomed the reckoning brought on by the cheating saga.
Can't imagine Starc not knowing Bancroft was sand papering as he took most advantage of it Edit: I realize this is nothing but a presumption. Starc may have had no knowledge and still found good purchase on the ball
I remember the camera zooming in on David Warners hands while fielding in slips just before they caught the Bancroft sandpaper footage. Almost every one of his fingers on both hands were heavily bandaged and commentators were questioning why. At that time, Aussies were getting old ball to reverse swing when no other team could. It seemed they suspected something dodgy was going on. The rest is history.
There is no way that only 2 players knew about this,Can't the bowler who is bowling with ball tell or sense that there something wrong/difference with the ball?? Obviously they can..I am not questioning Starc/Cummins/Hazelwood credibility as bowlers but that was combined effort just to win at any cost..Just to suppress the controversy only Smith and Warner came out openly. Although this fiasco did good for Australia that they got rid of Lehman who was promoting nuisance culture in this Australian team and they got decent skipper like Tim Paine.. Australian cricketers are known to spill the beans about real names/facts in their biographies,I am expecting David Warner to disclose some facts about it 10 years later in his book..

They are cheaters. No one will ever forget this
And they f***** England team😂😂
Cameraman deserves a award here! Something like ICC gamechanger of the decade!😂
Graeme Smith was brutally honest about his beliefs and so on point. 👏🏻
Dont you think it all started under the captaincy of Ricky Ponting?
@@mickeymouse3807 I dont agree, Ponting had a play to win mentality and so did Steve Waugh. You need a lot of grit and attitude to be the best at anything, Faf DuPlessis just like Graeme Smith are hard nuts. I like thair take no prisoners attitude in the game. Have a look at New Zealand who try to be the nice guys and be too fair. Nice guys do finish last, they should have been pissed at how the World Cup was stolen from them. Do you think the English would have reacted as the Kiwis did? Not a chance in hell. You need to find a balance and I think our toxic culture had gone too far and crossed the line, they seem much better now but will still play to win as they should.
@@eoinociarain7986 Everyone plays to win my friend. But as you said the toxic culture went too far and crossed the line. Thats all I was trying to say.
J Smith it went from the Australian team of the 2005 ashes, who played the game hard but fair as we saw in that great series ( in fact I think that was what made it probably the greatest test series ever, the spirit in which it was played), to the ball tampering and insults crap shown in this series.
@@mrkipling2201 Yeah, I think the culture went very bad under Clarke's captaincy. I have a feeling that it has something to do with players in the team not always maintaining the form to keep their spot in the team. The Australian sledging is gross. While I was appalled as an Aussie by what occurred here, in a way I’m kind of glad that it did because it was only going to take something like this for the team to finally be held to account for their behaviour. It was getting to the point that I was starting not to like watching cricket because of all the bullshit.

brilliant doco, superbly produced. Missed the part about Australians lying about the method to tamper the ball in the original presser but otherwise captured the events of that series superbly.
Mark Nicolas's voice in between, couldn't have asked for anything more

Such a quality production. I come back and watch this every year or so. They capture the narrative so well, with the unfolding over events in time. I wonder what the principal personalities involved have learned, looking back. On a deep level, not just in terms of how to manage tactics and appearance. On my bucket list, to one day go to Newlands and watch a test match from the side of the ground looking across at Table Mountain, what a glorious backdrop. And as always, RIP Shane Warne.
Best cricket documentary ever produced. Incredible production and storytelling
Thank you Supersport for sharing this. Was looking for it all over the net.

It was a hell of a series
Ab predicted it right
This series was definitely the most dramatic series of our age. Right from the first match.
What level of documentary 👍👍👍
Great insight , Great commentators .
Should be made often to keep test cricket alive .
He cheated again....
Certainly didn’t look good.

They are the best performing team in the world and even you fail to recognise
I felt this documentary mostly sidestepped Warner's role in this scandal and made it a bancroft, Smith problem. I thought he played a key part in this scandal. Other than that, great documentary!
Yeah, Warner hardly gets a mention and I feel most of it was his fault.
@@StraightNoChaser86 Well it deffo wasn't Bancroft. He was a rookie. No way a Rookies walking into an Australian team and being like 'Right lads let's do something that could ruin our careers and shame our Jersey'

How long were these hypocrites banned?
Only a handful of Australian cricketers objected to the severity of the punishments. The vast majority of Australians were howling for blood and wanted even harsher punishments. The outcry was so severe the Australian Prime Minister had to step in and condemn the cheaters (as shown in this documentary). I know the rest of the cricket world hated the Australian team at the time but the local public was only a step behind. Most Aussie fans I know welcomed the reckoning brought on by the cheating saga.
Steve Smith, Cameron Bancroft and David Warner will remember this for a really long time
Can't imagine Starc not knowing Bancroft was sand papering as he took most advantage of it
Edit: I realize this is nothing but a presumption. Starc may have had no knowledge and still found good purchase on the ball

Cameraman: ''the hero of the documentary''
I remember the camera zooming in on David Warners hands while fielding in slips just before they caught the Bancroft sandpaper footage. Almost every one of his fingers on both hands were heavily bandaged and commentators were questioning why. At that time, Aussies were getting old ball to reverse swing when no other team could. It seemed they suspected something dodgy was going on. The rest is history.
This was the best documentary on Cricket ever made imo. Just amazing!
what a joke the test is always>>>> and aus won icc trophies unlike cheap quotaafrica
