Greetings! Thank you for sharing your experience and explaining the insurance claim process in a straight forward, easy to understand, layman's dialogue. Insurance is a strange animal. We have to have it, but we hope we never have to use it!
About two years ago I started cruising several times each year and that insurance that you can add on gets expensive and as I recall, is very basic coverage. Like you, I researched a couple of companies and decided to go with an Allianz annual policy. They had 3 to choose from. The top tier covered business equipment if you are traveling with it. I decided on the 2nd tier because I rarely travel with my laptop and such these days. As I recall the cost was something in the area of $350 per year and I think I have what I need. After viewing your vlog, I will go back and review my policy. I have never had to use it, and hope I never do, but as you noted, we have to hope for the best and plan for the worst.
Once again, thanks for a very informative video on a very important topic that gets very little coverage...pardon the pun! Fair winds and following seas! 😎😎😎😎

Thank you for watching and sharing your experience too. We took the cheapest policy on the Allianz on that cancelled trip - and we would never do THAT tier again. We now have an annual plan that covers up to $10K per trip and we feel that would cover the plane, cruises, hotels for most trips we take. But it's always good to read EVERY little thing on the fine print. We live, travel and learn! Thanks again!

Could not agree more on the need for travel insurance. We use an annual Allianz policy as we travel often both for business and pleasure. If you take more than one cruise or all inclusive trip a year the annual plan is the way to go. As you noted it's generally a much better value than purchasing trip insurance through the cruise line one cruise at a time. To me the most important coverage is medical care abroad and the cost of medical evacuation should you need to be taken to a hospital or returned to your country of origin. My wife is a travel advisor and we've seen cases where it cost hundreds of thousand of dollars, yes ($100,000 or more) to be evacuated or returned to your home country! Many countries also require payment upfront for medical services. Thanks for sharing your actual claim experience.

Thank you! I agree the medical abroad and evacuation is the biggie for sure! We have been lucky not to have had to use it for that. It may have been a different story if my husband had gone on the trip with that torn retina. You’re right too, that they want the payment right then so you ‘hope’ to be reimbursed with your claim. I hope we helped a few people with our experience. Thank you for watching and being part of the conversation!
