Rest in peace, JD McDuffie. He dies in the opening laps. He and Jimmy Means might have spun in Irv Hoerr's oil because Hoerr's car blew an engine and was leaking fluid a lap before.

That whole entire left-front wheel assembly was off well before the corner on JD's car. I sadly believe the often end-life parts JD used killed him here.

Other than the lap 5 accident, this was a good race.

The only positive thing that came from JD's accident & Tommy Kendall's in 1991 was the addition of the inner loop bus stop chicane for 1992 to slow the cars down way before getting into turn 5. It added another great passing zone where you could out brake another car & the flow of the circuit was not radically changed. The Bus stop chicane is still a fairly quick chicane compared to others like at Monza & more resembles the chicanes at LeMans. I prefer the Glen with the bus stop as it adds a little bit more difficulty to the circuit which is needed for a fairly simple but quick & flowing circuit. I would still love to see them run the full circuit with the boot section one time & see how much it adds/takes away from the racing. If they can run COTA then there's no excuse for not running The Glen's full circuit at least one time

Brock Beard has entered the chat and we're fine with it.

To be fair the satellite feed actually is missing part of the race, which still makes this upload worthwhile.

Shame that 1991 Budweiser At The Glen elected to continue the race instead of cancellation after J.D. McDuffie fatal crash like Ayrton Senna at the F1 1994 San Marino Grand Prix
In 1992 the WGI bus stop chicane was added before turn 5 and in 1995 the Imola Tamburello and Villeneuve corners turned into esses and chicanes

If nascar and the race teams had a different view about safety during the early 1990's, not saying that eventual deaths after this one could have been prevented, but this sport would have had a better direction to go towards.

I get what youre saying, but what about the fans, who spent their money to attend, and make the time in their everyday schedules, to see this race? You can say just reschedule it, but its not that simple for some with busy and hectic lives. Every fan there that day deserved to watch the race, maybe share the day with their families, etc.
I totally get where you are coming from, in terms of respecting and recognizing the loss of JD, but honestly, I think if you asked any of the drivers, before ANY race, if they did die, they would still want the event to go on. Thats what these guys do, and do so well, and thats the spirit called racing.
      Idk my two cents anyways.

@@chocolatetownforever7537 Nobody wanted the race to restart, but to honor JD, the best thing for them to do was to focus for the rest of the race. Declare a winner, get the race weekend behind them, and go home.

In the grand scheme of it all, the show must go on. I think, in a way, it's HOW the drivers and teams and us fans of this sport mourn...we go back racing knowing they're still here as long as we remember.
