Yes the Smigellian influence through that whole era is a big part of why it was so much funnier than any comedy around now.
NBC Late Night-era Conan always felt to me like it was Smigel’s own show as much as it was Conan’s.
Even when he was no longer a regular writer, a lot of the best gags felt like something he wrote.

As a 73 year old disabled veteran I suffer from multiple chronic pain related issues but anytime I start feeling sorry for myself I just watch some Triumph videos and I start laughing so hard I can’t help but feel better!thank you Mr.Smigel!

Instead of just making dumb hairy Aremenian jokes, Triumph should have said something about how loud and annoying Sona's laugh is. Like her laugh sounds like his mother after she got hit by a car or something

One of my FAVOURITE things in my entire 45 years of life is when Robert briefly giggles before he delivers a line, you just KNOW that its going to be hilarious.
It happens a few times in the Star Wars one, and the Wieners Circle.
For YEARS Triumph has been one of my favourite things in life.
I LOVED being able to share Triumph with my kids and have them get the same reaction.

Brian Stack now works on Stephen Colbert's show. So he quit working for the guy who replaced Letterman on NBC and now works for the guy who replaced Letterman on CBS.

Robert Smigel should be a big star for his comedic brilliance and wit. It's not like he hasn't had a good career as a writer. I'm sure he's done fine and for all I know he's probaly quite content, but he surely deserves much wider recognition. Another similarly less known but absolutely brilliant comic that I can think of is Josh Robert Thompson who was on the Late Late Show.
Watched Triumphs coverage of trumps 2017 inauguration is pure genius and just what we needed. Hope he does it again.

I have heard that Jim Henson was so talented that he could just fade away and you would talk to Kermit or even end up in a three way conversation with Jim & Kermit as if they were seperate people. He just never turned it off, even off-camera. Seems like Robert Smigel does the same, and just becomes Triumph. It's an amazing skill!

OH MY GOD!! It's hysterically funny on so many different levels. When they started doing this on the original show, I just thought it was so stupid. But Robert Smigel manages against all odds to me it great!! I've seen him do it at award shows, in street interviews, on Hollywood Squares, in one on one interviews,.....It always seems to land hard.
I have been waiting for a Robert Smigel episode since the show began just over 5 years ago.

Triumph is absolutely 1 of my top fave things and I've re-watched everything I can find online that I've either seen or may have missed. Thanks so much for the seriously gut-busting roasts over the years. That said, just a big ups on everything you've contributed to - especially Conan's show in the early days as - after Letterman - I didn't know what the hell I'd be watching every day - and Conan's show immediately took the reigns and quickly filled what would have been a horrible void in the evenings. I can't thank you enough for all the hard work over the years and into the future. Cheers!

Triumph has always been my favorite segment of Conan's. He never fails to make me laugh harder than I ever tend to and seeing how much he kept Conan in stitches, it's obvious he's always been the best. I hope I see more of him someday.
