I'm not going to lie to you. I love your videos. You're straight to the point and you show results. VCG Construction sucks so much compared to your channel.
I got to try this saw out last month and love it. It's a finish carpenter's dream 7 1/4 saw, and I'd love something more portable than my Kapex for smaller jobs. Metabo HPT's pricing strategy is completely bizarre thought. They did this with their other multivolt tools as well before dropping them to competitive prices. Hopefully this will drop too. I'd gladly pay $600-$700 for it. Its really nothing like other small cordless miter saws on the market. I have the M18, but its poor accuracy makes it a liability on higher end trim jobs.
Price is a bad joke. Plus at $1,250 the fence isn't even square and it doesn't sit stable on a bench. I don't think they are going to sell too many of these.
In another video for Milwaukee 7 1/4 miter saw the person mounted it to a small PACKOUT box, this allowed him to use the PACKOUT as a rolling stand, plus gave him storage under the saw for blades and other stuff. I wounder if that would work with other brands and this saw.
Tips. Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)! Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a vertical line above the saw blade. Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt. Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing . And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft. It is very important that everything is aligned. Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade. Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / HITACHI C12RSH2 / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails). If you want you can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick. To this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw. Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine. Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-4. therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned vertical in line above the saw blade. Conclusion: how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing. .
Finally got one of these on sale for $800. As a former fanboy of the Japanese made c10fsh saws and having learning how to trim in the 90’s on a hitachi 8” I thought I would it would be perfect for me. Well It’s not perfect, but it’s a pretty great little saw.
LOL Americans in the comments complaining about its price : hey! This is what we pay for a dewalt flexvolt mitresaw + battery in Europe !! At least I like festool/mafell because it's equally crazy expensive everywhere.
Very impressive saw no doubt, but with the DeWalt sub $500, the Milwukee the same, and a few others, they are killing themselves pricing it at $1,250. They could make a killing selling a ton getting it down into the ~$800 range, but I don't know whats all involved with the engineers, designers, labor putting it together, etc. So, I'm not sure if that's possible for the company. Great video. I'm a new subscriber.
Just tested a dewalt 780 and too much flex in the saw arm meant cross cut lap joints are impossible, and for all that money. No issues dong trench work with this saw. Quality.
I’ll stick with my little Milwaukee 7 1/4. For casing, most base, and shoe, these little saws are awesome. Only problem I’ve had was cutting 45 beveled right on 1 1/4 back band.
A few years in for this saw now, would those who have purchased this saw, recommend it? Did the saw age well so far? Curious as I could see myself own this real soon. Thanks in advance.
I was thinking about get the Makita 7 1/2 db to compliment my 12 inch Makita. What are you waiting on Makita to fix? It looks awesome to me other than maybe updating the slide to be the same as the 12 and 10 inch saws.
Stringfellow Hawke forward rails are nice. I keep getting really close to ordering the Makita little one. My luck they will update it a month later. The big 12 is just a pain to carry with a bad back. 42lbs less with the little guy is very appealing. I have a dewalt 7 1/4 and it’s nice but it’s not the same at all. Makita quality is almost as good as festool imo.
@@schwartzmatthewe I just got the Wilmaukyee 7-1/4" slider and it's ok... but just. Missing a depth stop, and has some other goofs too. Festool is overrated imo. Now if Mafell comes out with a slider... I'm there. I think all the smaller Makitas have standard rails. I hope they scale down their forward rail 36v machine to a single battery 7-1/4"... that would be tits perfect.
i hope they add AWS and the side rails to the 7" miter. the metabo has many features and the option to go corded but its missing the AWS feature...one brand never has it all
Great Vid! That knob & adjustable feet are brilliant! I love my Dewalt saw but you will catch me lightly tapping on it to get my bevel exactly where I want it lol & it’s hella heavy so not always easy to get er perfect. Metabo is doing nice things! I’m waiting for the day where there is an app on my phone or on the handle where you can set the bevel digitally! Owweee!
I know this is totally off topic but do you have any idea when Milwaukee is ever going to release the m18 framing nailer or have they given up on it. Last I heard it was going to be Oct. of 2019.
$1,200 for that saw!? I wasn’t able to find anything else, if you find some a different price let me know but damn... I’d rather get the Kapex for that price.
Just unboxed this saw and the first thing that bothered me is the fact it does not have onboard storage for the hex wrench it comes with. If it wasn’t so small and portable I’d be sending it back for that issue alone.
I’m quite excited about the new generation of tools coming out at the moment but I gotta say I don’t think I’d pay that much for it although I’m sure it’s an awesome saw
Wtf $1200? That’s a joke I was thinking $3-400 max?! Get the Dewalt cordless slider in 12” for 1/2 the price. Who do they think they are Festool? Though the Kapex is 12” so that’s easier to swallow. Damn they lost me after that price point. Jeez
Dewalt has a cordless 20V 7-1/4 inch sliding compound miter saw for $279. I just bought it for that price--including 4 Ah battery. Is the Metabo worth $900 more? Is there any situations in which you would recommend the Metabo over the Dewalt?
The overall quality of Hitachi (This saw is based of one of their old Mitresaws they only sold in Japan) is unbelievable compared to Dewalt, quality and accuracy of those small Japanese Hitachi saws I've used is unparralelled, even better than the Kapex we have. Personally I think every dewalt mitre I've ever used the quality is pretty rubbish and I've used pretty much every one from 185mm up to 305mm (7 1/4 - 12"). Particularly as they age, they very quickly become sloppy, bearings get worn out, pivot points on the fixed rail ones are terrible due to being one sided. The dewalt is an average saw but unlike the Metabo it's not double bevel, no fine adjustments, smaller cut capacity, no trench cut ability, doesn't have zero clearance blade throat, the dust collection is about the worst I've ever seen on a mitre saw when you have a vac fitted it closes the material skirt shut so no dust can go through the port. It's made to a price point and it shows. The only thing it beats the Metabo on is it has Shadowline and not a laser. But each of the repective companies have those solutions patented so not surprising. Admittedly the price point for the Metabo saw is much too high IMO, I'd think $800-900 would be more realistic in the current market, I don't expect they've sold a great many at the current price But this saw will excel in fine finsh work, cabinet making, furniture making ect.
Swing and a miss... but good effort. - Direct drive with hypoid gear like makita would be better. I hate belts. - That big honkin' knob on the back defeats the space saving of forward rails. - $1200 for a 7-1/4" saw is re-donk-u-lous. I live in hope that Makita will scale their 10"-12" forward-rail slider down into a 7-1/4" single battery version.
And I thought my Milwaukee 7 inch miter saw was overpriced. This saw is double that and triple the Dewalt. I'm not a Dewalt fan, but I'd buy the DW 7 inch saw 3 times before I spent 1250 on a saw that has a laser and not a cut line. For my money, the Milwaukee and 600 in the bank makes better sense.
$1,295 dollars?!? Is that a joke?! Both Milwaukee and DeWalt make excellent 7 1/4 battery saws that are just as good and I can buy 3 or 4 of them for the same $1,300. That prices puts it next to the kapex or shop sized radial arm saw. That's a joke. I've noticed this on more than one occasion in Metabo HPT'S brief history, over charging and under performing! Not that the tools are no good thus the underperforming comment, instead that the tools are Way overpriced and don't live up to the price tags!! Rob, I hope Metabo sent that one out to ya and you didn't have to work an extra freezing day in New England for that little guy.
A Concord Carpenter / ToolBoxBuzz obviously at that price point I have no hands on time with it. I know you guys reviewed at least the Milwaukee 7 1/4(my favorite job site miter saw). But that's it 45 detents are not usable, the table is lower than the base WOW, The sliding motor is .009 of plane with the rails.
