One way of looking at this over-the-top vs. inside-out swing thingie is that you are going to tend to use what you feel are the most powerful parts of your body to swing the club. For many of us it's the trail shoulder and upper arm muscles. If your head is forward then you'll want to use the muscles at the back of the upper arm and you'll go over-the-top, head back and you'll want to use more of your biceps and you'll go inside-out. But you'll still be using the trail shoulder and upper arm. That's why using your lower body to drive the swing (if you can) is preferable as it takes this instinct out of your swing. Of course, this is just what I believe is happening with my swing, based on endless years of self-analysis. Thank you Paul for offering these free videos.
my game has been terrible , average score is 115 . I played a round today and implemented many of your teachings . Effortless swing and stay on swing path face the target on woods and irons . Shot a personal best of a 97 which also included 3 lost balls . Out of 18 drives hit the fairway 17 times all down the center with some distance . Have to admit one was lost when hit one to the left . but overall very pleased with my performance today .
The body swing is the best golf instruction I’ve ever come across. In my seventies now and enjoying my golf more than ever, wish I had came across it 20 years ago.
@Paul - Practicing oily wrists, driving right knee to touch the left knee, and keeping spine tilt, all made a huge difference in my game. MUCH LONGER!! Thank you so much!!
Paul Wilson strikes again! Best teaching pro on the internet. If you only want to follow one teacher, it should be Paul. He knows how to explain the golf swing to true amateurs (i.e. indexes of about 10 and higher) better than anyone else. His "slow swing" concept is, in my opinion, the most important swing tip of the 1 million or so tips you've seen in your life.
Paul your an exceptional instructor,I get new ideas every time I watch.I have watch a number of instructor and your ideas are me and I’ve tried a few and they work.
I have been hitting the turf way before ball, sometimes. Rotating my hips more by touching my legs as you show is a great revelation for me. Thank-YOU for this excellent information. I know it will help me a lot !
Glad it helped! I would check your grip too. If you are hooking without trying to hook it you have a grip problem. Neutralize it a little so you don't get big snappers.
Simple way to see the path for sure. In no way should anyone who is watching my channel be swinging over the top. I now have numerous tips on this and it's super easy to fix. Glad you found this one. Keep at it.
You might see a blur in sunny Los Vegas, but in the cloudy UK... Instead, using a medium iron and a range mat, align club to ball with half an inch clearence of the club's toe inside of the rubber driver tee. If you find your clubhead flicking the rubber tee as you swing through, you're hitting over the top. I couldn't work out why I did this and now the mystery is solved 😅 This is the best lesson and best tuition I've ever had. It's simple, easy (ish) and works incredibly well. I've just realised I've been hitting OTT all my life, even playing off 4 handicap. One aspect of my game has always been inconsistency. I can shoot par in the morning and 90 something in the afternoon. This is why. Playing golf with a fault is like playing soccer with an exploding ball. Hinge, rehinge, or handle down (backswing), handle down (follow through) is my new mantra. Dead arms, loose wrists does not come naturally. I find starting with a pitching wedge and gradually increasing the club length and ark works best when warming up, or practicing. Turning off hitting is way harder than starting to swing properly.
Great add on feel for this is feel like you’re throwing the blur into your target. All I feel during my swing is “observe the blur over the ball towards the target”. Great drill, really cleans up a lot!
awesome vid, Paul! took til now to recognize the range at Bear's Best in Vegas! I've sliced on that very range! (much less now, thanks to your book and vids, thanks much!)
Hi Paul glad I caught your video today. This past year I played my golf swing between my ears watching for the direction what I coined ‘The Big Blur’ I want to send my ball. You video validates my Big Blur Golf swing. And of course your Body Swing has helped as well. Cheers
Excellent simple video. I come over the top. As soon as hurricane Dorian gets out of the way I can't wait to try it. When coming back is the path at 7 o'clock and the downswing thru 1 o'clock with club head face square at impact with an excellerated hip turn ? Jack
Paul this drill has cured my slice and got me hitting a nice draw and straight drive 250 yards down the pipe..... Thank you so much mate. Can I ask the head tilt.. is that something I should do with my irons aswell? Thanks again my friend
Been trying your other tip, with the tee 6” behind the ball tonight. Helped a bit but still inconsistent. But will keep going as I think this type is swing, and you as a coach, are the best to suit my body profile and lack of athletic flexibility 👍
Need to turn your arms off. If you are still coming over the top you are really hitting hard with the arms. Do this then the other drills: th-cam.com/video/6ZeTqcz2pmE/w-d-xo.html
Over the top is hitting with your arms which is causing you to lean forward in the downswing. Stay back. Get the backwards tilt. Turn your arms completely off and you will fix it.
Outstanding Paul! I applied this today after watching last night and achieved success in today's round. Your explanations/drills are simple and logical. Thankful JP
Paul - This fixed my driver path! Thank you. Once question is that I find i need to roll my trail arm over the lead arm thru impact in order to avoid a push fade or slight slice. Should you be consciously thinking of rolling the ams over or should it just happen naturally?
My difficulty with keeping my head back is that then my weight also stays on the back foot. How do I keep my head behind the ball and still move my weight to the front foot?
Sure, try it. If you hit the ground behind the ball then watch these: th-cam.com/video/UwynwFBldv4/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/hAZyQXoIGac/w-d-xo.html
I have the opposite problem with the longer clubs and it increases as I get to the driver. Can you do a video on pushes. I know it should just be the opposite of this video but need a drill.
No. your head is always behind the ball as you hit the ball. Fat shots = too much weight on the back foot at contact. Feel your heel coming up 3-4" with irons as you hit the ball. If the heel is lifting your weight is shifting.

I agree, his tips have completely changed my game.

Could not agree more. 100%
Great video! It really helped me visualize what is going wrong with the over the top swing. Thanks Paul!
Paul is one of the best!!!
Thanks for the support.

Absolutely the best explanation I've ever seen. And the best thing is it's instantly visable the first time I used it! Perfect!!

This is absolutely clear also for an Italian crystal clear COMPLiMENT
Best understanding and demonstrating over the top. Superb lesson. Thank you!!

Whatever works. Just need to get that path and if there is a way to know you are doing it for sure then that's a good thing. Keep at it.
You are a great teacher.
Thanks for watching!!
Great add on feel for this is feel like you’re throwing the blur into your target. All I feel during my swing is “observe the blur over the ball towards the target”. Great drill, really cleans up a lot!
Very good. Simple way to learn it. Just see the blur. Keep doing it until you train it to blur that way.
awesome vid, Paul! took til now to recognize the range at Bear's Best in Vegas! I've sliced on that very range! (much less now, thanks to your book and vids, thanks much!)

I love it when I am on the same page with people. Stay focused and try to take it to whole new level. You can do it.
Great instructional video. Reminds me of the Effortless Golf Swing by Michael McTeigue back in the 80's!!!!
Awesome!! Thanks game changer
For sure!!
Another awesome tip. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
the path is crystal clear as i can see the blur !
Thanks for watching!!
Thank you sir! Best tip ever
Thanks so much.
Great tip. Thanks

@@paulwilsongolf what a gent :)
Thanks Paul!...Definitely one of my issues is with “over the top” swing...Can’t wait till try this one out!🍻
Over the top is hitting with your arms which is causing you to lean forward in the downswing. Stay back. Get the backwards tilt. Turn your arms completely off and you will fix it.
Paul, can you demonstrate what fix action is required if using irons as we hit down with an iron as opposed to up with a driver?
Paul do you any advice for senior golfer who can not turn those hips fast or get a full back swing.
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
Outstanding Paul!
I applied this today after watching last night and achieved success in today's round. Your explanations/drills are simple and logical.

JP
Thanks for watching!!
Probably your best tip to date for out to inners 👍 ie me 🥴
Sir, inside out swing I understand but when to bring hips before or after?
You are always firing your hips first arms follow.
Would too much coming inside cause occasional hosel rockets?
Paul - This fixed my driver path! Thank you. Once question is that I find i need to roll my trail arm over the lead arm thru impact in order to avoid a push fade or slight slice. Should you be consciously thinking of rolling the ams over or should it just happen naturally?
Great. You would consciously roll it until you no longer hit the ball with any slice spin. At this point you are not even thinking about it.
good video to check yourself.
Exactly.
My difficulty with keeping my head back is that then my weight also stays on the back foot. How do I keep my head behind the ball and still move my weight to the front foot?
Does this apply to iron swings too?
Sure, you only have one swing. The plane changes on its own due to the length of the club. You would change width of stance and ball position.
Will this work for irons?
Sure, try it. If you hit the ground behind the ball then watch these:
th-cam.com/video/UwynwFBldv4/w-d-xo.html
th-cam.com/video/hAZyQXoIGac/w-d-xo.html
I have the opposite problem with the longer clubs and it increases as I get to the driver. Can you do a video on pushes. I know it should just be the opposite of this video but need a drill.
Pushes - you are sliding. Need to turn more. As soon as you start down think TURN. Done. Fixed.
well that explains why i occasionally hit the ground...i need get my hips moving out of the way. what about irons...head is centered?
No. your head is always behind the ball as you hit the ball. Fat shots = too much weight on the back foot at contact. Feel your heel coming up 3-4" with irons as you hit the ball. If the heel is lifting your weight is shifting.
Is this for all clubs or just woods?
All clubs. You only have one swing. The plane changes on its own due to the length of the club. You would change width of stance and ball position.
@@paulwilsongolf thanks, Paul. Best content on TH-cam hands down
This fixed my swing....
Can u show entire swing in slow motion?
Watch some of my tips from last year. In them on the right side I have my swings in regular and slow motion.
Paul, great tip but I gotta say you gotta get a better camera or upload in 1080p your videos are always a bit blurry and washed out from sun
