I went to highschool in Bakersfield California and every year there was a man that would impersonate him at the talent show, and the year I was there one of the other teacher knew the legendary Mister Owens and he came up behind the man that was impersonating him singing with him and he was so suprised and a little embarrassed. But Mister Owen was very happy about being there it was awesome! 😊

Terry was probably one of the great voices of his time ( may be imitating Elvis but better than Elvis in Suspicion) and then wrote one of the great songs of all time -- Amarillo by Morning. Can't quite figure out why he was not a mega celebrity.

But, for many years I heard this song on the radio and thought it was Elvis -- only when I found out that the version one heard on the radio was Terry and not Elvis ( although Elvis recorded it on an album first) did I look into finding out more about this guy. He also wrote at least two songs that, in my mind, are classics.
@@johngusdon3537 I'm very well aware of each version. Elvis' version is played regularly on oldies radio here. Other guys version isn't even close to being as good. At one point he even forgets the words in his and just hums them.

Found this album in my moms collection when I was about 5-6.
