Bobby Bare is still alive as of this writing.
You know....
Many too young armed forces left and never returned!
I like how Bobby is all dressed in just about all Black..
The sadness of it all. resonated with many J.Cash's memorial war songs.
All the stone memorials. If only they could speak.
Blessings to all whether it's you or your're a family member who survived.
Let me know if you saw this. Love,
I’ve walked on several foreign lands not always by choice, this song always brings a little feather in the throat
I don't care who wrote it, all I know is when I listen to it, it brings my Dad back to me,, and I can sit and close my eyes and his there with me. If I was to listen to the original it wouldn't be the same! We sang along with ,,,, Bobby Bare,,,,

This was my late father's favorite!...Especially when he was a single man doing time in the navy in the 60's. This fits him well as he travel the world then. We miss you dad!!
I just subscribed because of this song ,,I’m crying like a newborn baby ,,, HOME ,,,WE ALL NEED HOME ❤️
I love Bobby Bare’s version of this amazing song! One of the very best. You feel every emotion. So sad!
Hello how are you doing
Great song, love this live version, Bobby sounds so good as does the band and his back up singers.
Already moved 12 times by the time I was 10; when this tune came out in '64 I could barely listen to it, so hard it was to find home. Bobby Bare was the first live performer I ever saw at age 14. Thank you.

One of the great songs of all time. It has a meaning for so many people.
Yes, flawless. Each emotion revealed in the meaning of his voice. First fell in love with 500 Miles Bobby Bare, I was right years ago. Cam. 63 now, it resonates.
A oldie but goodie from the 60,s , how can you not love this music from then. Take us back 🎼🎸💙
For me the 500 miles are eternity for the loved ones I have lost. This song makes me cry.
Story of my life when I was a kid. My Ma was always there for us. She is gone now and I sure do miss her this Mothers Day Weekend. Great song and singer.
These are such beautiful country music songs. Thank you for the post. Love listening to the good old country music songs.....
Hello how are you doing.?
thanks Bobby Bare for your gift of music. played it over and over again on our cheap record player
...humblely handsome Ron
The one about the soldier and his horse in the snowstorm almost making it back to Mary Ann marked my heart as a very very small child...
This is the very best version of this song which has been covered by just about everyone in the country, rock, and folk genres.
Loving this song.🎶♥️😇Thanks for sharing. Anyone wanting to reunite to their love do not hesitate.Love can not be replaced. Those who are married to their best friend that’s the best Christmas blessing you can have.

JohnRobert Mauney you are absolutely right!! This was on the radio alot!
Only thing I thing I can truly say good about the boomers is they had good music
I emigrated from England and lived in Johannesburg South Africa in 1963. This was played on the juke box in cafe by the bus station. It resonated with me very much at the time.
Hey how are you doing today?
From central Illinois, moved north of Detroit, Mi. at age 20.
Still remember the first year. Almost like Bobby was singing my song
Hello how are you doing today?
Oh, wow, my Mom played the guitar and her and my Dad would sit on back porch and sing this song! I loved this song!
Grew up listening to you Bobby because of my parents, back in the sixties. Time has changed everything. Never forgot the music. Thank You

Tears well up in those eyes everytime.. also sunshine of memories of that place called home..
Aug 24, 1963 - Bobby Bare records "500 Miles Away From Home" in a morning session at Nashville's RCA Studio B. Love this song!

No, this is from a performance in Oslo, Norway in 1964!!! See also the "Detroit City" (my hometown) from the same place and time! th-cam.com/video/6G4bxA2Gfnc/w-d-xo.html
Even the non-English speakers appreciated his great talent. Long Live Mr. Bare.

Brought back child hood memories. As my dad use to listen to this song...
Have heard this song for most of my life! Born in 1953, Mom played guitar, she would sit on back porch and play this song and her and my Dad sang together! We were poor, but I never went hungry! I think growing up when I did made me a better person!

Hi Rhonda hope you’re okay?
Anyone listening in 2024?
October 2024
I first heard this in the sixties when I was a little girl....loved it then and still love it..love Bobby voice so beautiful and mellow.
This song has stood the test of time.
It's way tougher to sing using the metric system though.
True that
I really love this song. It reminds me of when I first left home. I would go see my parents once in a while and talk to them about how my life was going. But those days are over now since they have both passed away. I still have a picture of them on my living room wall. I look at it every day and think about the good times we had together. God bless you mom and dad. I know you're both in heaven now
Yeah I always remember my husband whom I lost 10years ago, God bless his soul.
Did you attend his show last year ? I did because I'm an official fan now
(Vince) This song just popped into my head today a week before Christmas! I lost my mom about 5 years ago and currently reside in Ohio! I grew up in NYC and sit is approximately 500 miles between home (NYC) and Ohio! Almost fitting song! Miss you and love you always mother!
Studying and working alone abroad. Tears just gathering in my eyes when this voice runs. Songs in those ages really aces.
Been in love with this singer and song since it came out in early 1960's !!!

Thank you for my freedom and sharing this with us. Hearing the things you've said takes me back to when I was a kid listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival and my dad telling me about Vietnam.
