Besides being mathematically/statistically inclined, the No 1 and most important skill: **Resilience**. In order to be a successful trader you need to let go of the emotional luggage that both large losses, and even extraordinary gains, can naturally generate. Mindfulness practices (meditation) might help you build that 'resilience muscle' and be invaluable if you want to be a successful trader. You can't focus on your current trading strategy if you still have 'lingering emotional thoughts' about your last trade.

in a real quant trading firm, he is more like an operational trader role. In real quant trading firm, quant trader spends time researching into mathematical model and execution algorithm, backtesting them rather than spend most of the time doing the actual trading.

Titles don't matter. It's more of the job scope.
For instance, you trust the Black-Scholes-Merton pricing model and leave the trade executions to automation. Then you focus on refining the BSM model while the trades execute automatically.

Its a hard journey. Math degree certainly helped me. Followed by msc financial mathematics. Those were foundation for me and then rest was self learning. You have to stay consistant and put work in every day. I worked for a investment management firm but was not directly in trading and used to trade my own account every day for 2 years barely breaking evening. At that point I found my niche area - oil market and natural gas, slowly building my own portfolio up from about $8,000 to just over $60,000 in 8 months. From there have managed to build it profitable most months over last 3 years and currently at just under $3. 5 million. Plan is to go full time and leave my job when am at $5 million with goal of getting to $20 to 30 million or so to retire

The launch of a Bitcoin ETF, in my opinion, marked a turning point for the financial markets. I wouldn't normally buy and retain assets, but after spending over $300,000 eight months ago, it pleases me that this is still happening. Now that a bull run is almost here, I have no doubts that I will get back all I lost.

From what I’ve gathered most trading firms using quantitative methods look for various market conditions or patterns that typically result in a profitable trade. These are called alpha. Since a lot of the firms are market makers, they end up profiting so long as the market changes. It’s hard to justify the use of fundamental analysis when most trading happens in ticks of nanoseconds using algorithms made to identify and trade quickly
