- "You can write a song and you can not tell the truth, but your song will suck," says pop star Kesha. So what's the secret to making a great pop song? She explains the special alchemy of her own hits like "TiK ToK" and "Praying" and gives a stunning debut performance of her new song, "Cathedral." (This talk contains mature language.)

Kesha giving a Ted Talk is such a badass way for her to exercise her rights to her own voice.
She can teach a lot of TED Talk presenters to immediately get to the point.
Word. 13 minutes can feel like an eternity when half is beating around the bush...
I mean she’s a songwriter, so being a good storyteller is her thing. such a smart artist, love her
People always forget (or don’t know) that she has an IQ of 140, which is considered moderately gifted/superior level intelligence. So she’s a borderline genius.
Well she is a writer…😂
Nice song cathedral 🎶
Kesha's Independent Artist era is going to be one for the history books. They can't hold her back now
Sadly she’s gonna flop. Cuz fans only can support her on the internet but not her music.
@@LavaBear23 idc at least she's happy and free. Ima go see her even if it's not the stages as big as they were.
her numbers have been steadily declining since 2012 and are only going to fall further now, she has no label behind her to promote her or give her any budget, how is it gonna be for the history books these comments are so confusing
@@jasonk9419 Dr Luke bot. Talk to someone who cares.
@@LavaBear23 I think you confused her with Katy.
The fact she can pull of something as whacky as Joyride and then a week later perform something so angelic and potently emotional... Kesha has RANGE. Incredible.
Literally icon material
I LOVE IT! She's multidimensional!
literally!! i’ve been listening to joyride for a few days now and this song has made me cry lol
This came before Joyride, but yes
@@Gkiss3955yeah it was recorded and live streamed a couple months ago but just posted now
I'm so happy that she's free from that awful man finally
And now katy perry's working willingly with him
I’m sure that whole situation was blown completely out of proportion.
@@matejburic1388she is pure evil
Ur pfp 😍
Sophie legend 🙌
what do you mean it was out of proportion? are you saying we shouldn't believe what Kesha says about the abuse she faced?
Oh my God her voice, you can feel all the emotion. It makes me sad her kindness was exploited in the way it was by one evil person, but wow the way she came out the other end is amazing. You are amazing Kesha
She’s emotional because she’s drunk.
@@vintagemxer1846what a sad projection.
@@MrMaxMaxMax1you obviously have no clue what “projection” even means
@@vintagemxer1846what makes you think she was drunk?
@@leif1075common sense
"Praying" helped me come out to my family about my story and finally estrange from my abuser. I was at a very low point in my life and Rainbow helped me through it all. I'm so grateful to be living on this earth at the same time Kesha is. What an amazing person she is, wishing her happiness and success. will forever be an animal!
Incredible story ❤
umm... "animal" came to be during the kesha x dr. luke era, right? dunno whose idea it is, but if it's dr. luke's, i doubt kesha would be pleased to know her fans still refer to their self as animals...
@@ahxel8173 she referred to us as animals recently dw.❤
As soon as she said “2017” my stomach dropped because I knew what she was going to talk about 😭 I’m so proud of her
from tik tok to ted talk ♥️♥️♥️
lol Yes!!! ❤

Tonight I'mma talk till we sing Cathedral
(o-ooh o-ooh oh oh?)
@@vargatomicomicsyou did that 🎉
*The way she sang Cathedral was so raw and emotional. She hit every note perfectly yet so real. Thank you for the genuine talk and a gorgeous song, Kesha.*
Her voice is so beautiful and clear, wow
@@Ambersands123so much so that i thought her mic was autotuned 😮
@@aylergayuno it was
@@djhandsman no it wasn't
@@aylergayuno it was live without autotune. you can even hear her volume go up and down according to the amount of breath she used, even the stops and her voice cracks at some low notes.
JOYRIDE by Kesha is out now!
Go stream!!!
It sucks
@@eldiablo4160 me when I have no taste
This performance is one, if not, her best one. Honest, raw, unapologetic. I’ve been a fan of her since 2010- her recession pop style of club bangers and raw ballads is something that is of my frequency, and she has evolved into such a multi-faceted, unique and exciting artist. All of her albums since Rainbow are pure masterpieces. So happy for her now, and this song alongside her single Joyride are making me excited for the new album!
I’ve also been a fan since 2010 and watching her music grow with her through all of this has been an incredible journey. I’m so excited for her new album too!!
❤❤❤❤❤
She’s so unapologetically herself. She deserves happiness ❤️ love you Kesha
Kesha giving a TED Talk was not on my 2024 Bingo Card but she killed it. This was genuinely good and inspiring.
1:46 “I don’t hide from my emotions, I dive into them” 🫶
Kesha has helped me in so many ways ... i'll never be able to give her back what she's given to me, but i will support this motherf*cking legend for the rest of my life. I love you Kesha ❤️
I agree.
💯
It’s incredible how pure and strong her voice is
It's little weird because of the active pitch correction, but it still sounds quite nice and she has good delivery.
@@felixmarques?
@@felixmarques she'll always the princess of autotune
She's so iconic. Proud of her
The performance of Cathedral was so stunning and hauntingly beautiful. She sounds amazing. I'm so glad she's free and an independent artist now, this really is a new beginning.
Yesss❤
I remember when I first heard her voice (uncredited) in Flo Rida’s “Right Round” and I said “that voice deserves her own career.” She is sooo much more than a voice now! Powerful stuff, ma’am!
For a certain woman to try and stealthily release a song about “womens empowerment” while working with a rapist and this incredible woman has gained back her voice and did this powerful talk and performance is just AMAZING
Whenever she talks is like a warm hug. This woman is so sweet and pure at heart. She didn't deserve the anger people threw at her.
Every single time I hear Praying I STILL get goosebumps and cry. This song is INCREDIBLE. Any woman who has gone through abuse FEELS that song.
I think this means that a “Kesha’s version” of her previous songs is possible 🥹
That sounds great!
@@petabulmer3317idk, because that persona wasn't created by her...
I can't wait! I know it's in the works.
@gushernandez25 yeah I saw an article where she tweeted about that. Although I've seen some katycats call kesha a liar. How can it be a lie when Dr Luke sa'ing her was first revealed during a court case??
@@aussiefurbymogwaifan6621 why are katykats involved? Lol Shouldn't they be more focused on their supreme ruler not doing too good in her new album?
i always saw beyond kesha's public persona, she used to talked about mysticism and people mocked her for speak on connect yourself with the world around us and nature. i feel glad in my heart to stand by her side and see her happy creating again it's the result of a much bigger battle
Same here 💕 I saw something in her way back then, I knew she’d shine bright 👏🏻
The "hehehe" at 5:12 is so damn cute!
I agree
Praying. That song. Seriously. Speaks volumes to so many people who have gone through such pain and anguish. I find myself returning time and time again to that song and just feeling all the feels. Thanks Kesha for this amazing Ted Talk ❤
What an absolutely incredibly loving song Cathedral. Wow. Really felt that song ❤
Wow!!! What a terrific performance in the end. The way she sang every word - not only on a perfect pitch, but with the most raw emotion. And the lyrics so sincere and vulnerable.
This is what makes an artist. Amazing
The pitch is being corrected live. There's a few artifacts as a result. Some of the vibratos sound weird. It kinda works as a style, but people shouldn't think she's doing this unassisted.
@@felixmarques Honestly, they should've turned it down a bit. It's such a raw emotional song that the rigidness caused by the high correction speed sorta works against it.
This is by far the most emotional video I have seen this week. I am glad she found her truth. God bless her with so much talent and glad she's inadvertently touching lives with her music.
This new song, of Cathedral, is very important for me.
She is an amazing singer.
This brought on profound tears. To stand there, after all of these years. Speak her truth and with such light, found her way throughout the darkness. This woman has such a tremendous aura and a beacon of hope for her long time fans / new fans and people in general. I’m so beyond proud of her, not only for standing up there telling her story. But the fact she has her voice back. HER voice. 🫶🏻 We love you Ke$ha.
This is absolutely one of the best live performance I've ever watched. It's raw, just pure emotions. Kesha Rose Sebert is so versatile, geniunly one of the greatest out there.
I wouldn't call myself a fan of Kesha, but as a Singer/Songwriter myself, I very much respect her. I loved everything about this talk and her new song/performance. It gave me goosebumps and moist eyeballs 🥹🥹🥹
My heart has unlimited love for Kesha. She really is just an incredible artist, songwriter, and overall person.
Her voice is so gorgeous and haunting and so full of emotion it just moves through me, instant tears
That was the best I’ve ever heard her sound, the poise, control, and dynamics! Amazing
The happiness, the peace, it’s so beautiful to be alive right now witnessing someone take their freedom back. Truly brings tears to my eyes
Bruh these vocals are CRAZYYYYYYYYY I’m literally crying
DUDE Cathedral is SO FUCKING GOOD are you serious?? I hope the studio version comes out soon!! God Kesha is incredible🩵
as a fan since 2009 I’m so proud of how far you’ve come ❤

It felt like my soul just had a conversation with Kesha? I‘m deeply touched and also what an AMAZING song!! I am so ready for her coming up releases, she‘s holding onto so many more songs you can just feel them sitting behind her genius mind waiting to be let out. Wow
Kesha inspiring me to dance freely at 13 and live freely at 27 ❤️
I love her way more than I thought I would, she’s so self-aware.
Kesha, we fucking love you! You have saved so many of our lives so many times. You’ve carried us through our darkest days by sharing your pain in your darkest days. You ARE worthy of so much!
Why the general public sleeps on this woman I’ll never understand. She’s my favorite artist, no doubt ❤️🔥🔥
"you can write a song and not tell the truth and your song will suck" wise words, especially considering what has just been released.
oh here we go again...
I thought the same. One can pretend to care about something because is really desesperated to hit the charts again, but people will know that's bs - and one will get what deserves for that
It's astounding that the first time I ever saw her was in an episode of The Simple Life with Paris and Nicole. That cheerful young girl, that was making quips and jokes. She has been through so much, I almost wish she never found her fame. Just like Chapell Roan said recently, the industry champions those who are not able to protect themselves, and devours them whole. 😢
It’s crazy how much this woman touches my soul and inspires me with her brutal honesty, whimsical personality, lack of unnecessary filters, and kindness (my goodness she is kind and forgiving).
Kesha, if you ever see this, know that I aspire to be as forgiving, fun, confident, and powerful as you have become. I cannot thank you enough for channeling this horrible and disgusting situation in which you were put into a story to inspire all of us who are hurting or feeling wronged one way or another ❤
Not just one of the best TED Talks I've watched, but "Cathedral" gave me goosebumps beginning to end, the lyrics and the performance were flawless! Such precious lessons to take away and clear passion for music ❤
Kesha. You don’t imagine how many people you inspire everyday, i was one of the people going through hard times, a lot of people walked a path next to you, in those exact moments, and i’m personally so grateful that you where there. Hearing “Praying” again made me almost cry. That was THE song, for you, and for many of us. You saved so so so many of us, with my heart wide open, i just say thank you.💜
That made me cry 🥺 finally seeing her free it frees me too.
6:04 broke me 😔
I love her! I met her earlier this year in Big Sur, she gave me the biggest hug. She's amazing and she's a sweetheart!!
Kesha is so underrated and She deserves way more attention than ever!!!
Oh Kesha....completely loved this presentation. So happy that she's given us so much amazing music over the past two decades.
She’s so beautiful, her words and her music so lovely. I can’t even have words for this
I'm thankful I stumbled upon this video. Kesha gave a beautiful speech and beautiful performance. Her songs about trauma and pain are really cathartic.
Did i really cried through a Ted talk video with kesha? What a profound song she's such a great artist and ber story is so inspiring i love her
I know i am not one who cries but when she spoke about the song pray ❤
Kesha is a great woman.
so said Luke
So sad to see Katy picking luke side and making new music with him
Ok but vocals???? On point!!❤❤❤ She's right, we are so used to numb the intensity of emotions that it becomes a sickness, when this emotions live inside a body and then are as materials as the art we create.
YES. The Body Keeps the Score. Even if you try to numb the pain, your body still knows it's there.
sure it was amazing, even tho you could hear the autotune, still stunning
Old Kesha songs were something I considered to be a guilty pleasure. Something I was definitely singing along to on the radio in my car, but never proudly spoken of. But Kesha free of the restraints is something I would proudly sing poorly. The amount of raw emotion that Praying conveyed made me actually cry when I heard it. And those emotions still affect me every time I hear it. Everything on her Rainbow album hits differently because it was just ripping off that bandage and exposing the raw truth lurking just below the surface. It was real and something that I connected with deeply. This song was no different, and I am honored she shared it with us all.
Cathedral gave me full body chills. KESHA WE LOVE YOU FOREVER ❤️
Praying makes me cry 😢😢😢, it reminds me of the people who affected me in a negative way.
Fighting back tears in my kitchen. Kesha is an absolute hero and just impresses me more every time I learn something else about her. This talk was so incredibly authentic and raw, I hope to have her strength one day 🙏
That praying song is phenomenal. I haven’t heard it until now but am blown away
I really love she narrows it down her message so easily and precise, it's so easy to understand not just with my head, but with my heart as well! Excellent presentation!!!
Her vocals on “Cathedral” 🔥
It’s a shame the music industry is so twisted. So happy to see her finally free ❤
Having grew up with her music, and transiting into an adult life and seeing her growing up, becoming this adult professional and talented woman, it just makes me feel so empowered and proud of her. This is so emotional, that song at the end was just the cherry on top!
Chills. Literal chills.

I love Kesha, always have always will, she is so talented.
Her voice is so comforting I’m so proud of her
This is so on point. I love the strength and bravery she had throughout her journey. We loved her during her Ke$ha era and we're still here being inspired by her introspective and pop personas and creative work.
SO proud of you Kesha!!! What a beautiful TEDTalk!
so so so happy and proud of her! this girl has been through a lot. thank god she’s finally free now to do what she wants

Much love for her.
She is unique. PROUD OF YOU. Kesha.

That’s the thing music and art, it resonates differently for everyone, but it also hits the same note in everyone. I remember watching people reacting to her high note in Praying, and through the tears and surprise, everyone felt something break through in their hearts, from sorrow, to victory, to healing, to anger, and everything in between.
i'm crying so much hearing her song, her voice is just out of this world
