@@Yddp3307 well depending on the specific device. My previous "Surface Arc Mouse" same gray as the Headphones actually got horribly stained in less than a month....
My Surface Book has hold very well for almost 4 years, with minor wear on the "A" key and the spacebar...
The black Surface Laptop 2 of my wife is actually like new after a year and a half.
My 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ (Gray) looks very nice after a couple of month of heavy use (quarantine gaming)
Personally I would also get the Headphones in gray, but I did have that bad experience with the Arc Mouse, maybe the type of material wasn't adequate for it.

Been waiting for this. We'll be buying a Surface book 3. It is a perfect fit for any type of technical/industrial consultancy since we use the Nvidea quaddro cards it options.

Yeah me too, too bad it's trash. Only reason to have an Intel cpu right now would be for thunderbolt. But there is no thunderbolt on this laptop. The bezels are too thick. Track pad still small. Needs type c charging that way you can have another port for free.

I don't need any of this tech, but I watch all these reviews just because I appreciate watching them and their production quality, his ASMR voice, and just the quick and to-the-point style that is so nice and informative. His and MKBHD's videos, I just watch for fun.

I am a researcher and i am using the surface book 2. I really like it, it is the only of its kind. The versatility comes with the machine is incredible and i could constantly switch between using it as a desktop (by hooking it to the surface dock), a laptop and a tablet. The unique thing about it is the touch screen and the workflow with the surface pen, which i found rarely talked about. I use the onenote all the time to take notes, derive my ideas and document my experiments. The touch functions also enables new possibilities when i am dealing with image data, being able to interact with a picture using pen instead of a mouse is really natural, and surface book is really nailing it.
Thermal performance is a bummer though. The tablet part does not have a fan in my 13' SB and it overheats A LOT. I have to put a USB fan in order to stop it from constant throttling...

Why is MagSafe universally loved and missed, while the Surface Connector gets constantly hated on, when it's basically the same thing? It can even do more that MagSafe ever could, combining data with 130W of power!
The Surface Connector is nothing like MagSafe.
I can literary drag the Surface Book around my table with the connector, and previously, it couldn't provide enough power, resulting in battery drain even using the fully decked out surface books at max power. It's also finicky at times. Say if my laptop ran out of power, I assume I can just plug it in and use it. Not with the Surface Book 2 that I owned. I have to wait a bit for the battery to charge before I can open the laptop, even if it's plugged in.
Small things, but it makes the experience much more frustrating. I really hope the new version does not have these issues.

I don't like the Surface Connector due to the fact that you can also just charge with a USB-C cable. So it just seems unnecessary. Just like Apple removed MagSafe in favor of USB-C.
i love it but the battery packs much like DJI drone batteries die very easily and they both are 100CAD each

Sorry Dave, this is a very subpar review. You could have mentioned that it should have the i7 10710u CPU, a 15w 6 core comet lake CPU. This would have fitted within the power envelope.
You didnt really go over the thermals and clocks speeds, and any metrics you did show were put up so fast it was as if you didnt wanted people to see them.
Its main feature is its ability to not just be a tablet but also with the screen rotated around and used like that for drawing, or any professional application using the pen. You didn't even show any pen use.
You didnt mention that the screen has an ambient light sensor that makes the screen dim when you are in a darkened room.
You should show comparisons in rendering times between using the laptop connected and using the dedicated GPU and when just in tablet mode and say using Quicksync.
Speakers, what were they like ?
Does it handle real time audio ?
This is the perfect device for architects. Powerful enough to run CAD modeling and rendering apps when docked and can be used for sketching undocked especially on the go.

I feel like this is very much a tick generation product, I hope next year's surface book cuts down on the bezels a little (at least a bit, although I understand some bezels would be good for tablet functionality) and I hope the trackpad size in increased. I know it's either the surface book or surface laptop I'm thinking of but one of them has the most satisfying trackpads to use I've ever tried (with size being the only downside), I believe it was the surface book and I hope it's a bit bigger for the future being that's one thing Apple has consistently been good with for its MacBooks.
Some questions/comments about headphones because Dave was brief:
1) Are ear cups still removable? On last year's model you could remove them and Microsoft would even ship you replacements for free in warranty.
2) is Cortana still always on by default?
3) is there an app now? For users outside the US there wasn't a phone app you had to connect to PC to configure settings/EQ.

I think Dave2D deserves more attention and recognition than even someone like MKBHD or other famous youtubers cause he really reviews stuff with a user based perspective and not a freaking rich TH-camr who gets stuff [sometimes for free] and reviews them for a living!

I know this is all jokes, but seriously, this isn't a super hot machine. The top tablet only has a 15W CPU, and the bottom is pretty thick for something that needs to cool only a 1660 Ti Max-Q without any other components to account for.

Just received my Surface Book 3 15 inch today. It's my first ever Surface product.

Also there's a reason for the delay when detaching the keyboard from the tablet. It's due to the driver's disconnecting, which takes time.
Also does anyone know if they have fixed the issue where the gpu would randomly disconnect? I've had that problem on 7 surface book 2's.
Also I would purchase a Microsoft product over any other brand out there, regardless of performance. Why? Because it's built to last, better warranty and no bloatware.

The laptop 3 had AMD chips, they all performed worse than their Intel counterparts in both Batterylife and performance

Surface Book 3 is def a niche product and one that has lost the "wow" factor, so we are more realistic in what it offers. Makes it a hard buy from a value perspective.

I don't understand why everybody calls it niche if the laptop enable you to do pretty much everything. Dell XPS has no pen supposed and touchscreen. MacBook even no sd card slot, gaming laptop have short battery life and yoga/convertible laptop almost never have dedicated graphics.
It does every job without complaing but everybody complains it's not at the top of a specific benchmark. Being the best means bad at something else. The SB is not bad at anything

I have had the surface book 2 for my university for over 2 years now and it is great. I can turn the display around for a very good writing experience with the pen and it is still a relatively powerful latop with a great build quality. The only few things gotta be the detaching time and the not great thermals.

Look at the weird headphone jack positioning. I can't imagine plugging my wired headphones in laptop mode.
It's actually quite useful this way. The possibility of bending the jack is way lower and you can use the laptop on an uneven ground no problem (bed, couch etc)
