I believe generation 3 of the system (which I believe this is) does not have the hack because it now has encryption between all the wireless parts, previous 2 gens did not. I am researching the system to buy and this was a real concern for me. Before if you disarmed on the keypad it sent a signal to the base stations totally unencrypted apparently and someone could replay attack it with a device. It wasn't an easy hack to do because you had to be near to the device and know where they were in the house. Anyway all signals are encrypted from gen3. Becareful putting out the yard sign or a sticker to the brand if you have gen1 or gen 2 though!
@@danieljuk the encryption doesn't matter...it has to do with the 433.92MHz (at least in the US) being low emitted signal which can be interfered either causing the base station to believe and report it as RF interference or not at all.
Here is a tip about SimpliSafe Motion Sensors. it takes a few minutes after you set your alarm for the sensors to adjust to the room. If you are testing your system take that into consideration. While testing my system I set the alarm and came into the room immediately and often the motion sensors did not detect me right away. If I waited a few minutes before I entered the room, they got me every time.
Great video. Just one point. The motion sensors will have to be set up differently on your walls if you have pets. I was told by simplisafe support that as I have a 26kg dog and 2 4kg cats that the sensors should be placed at shoulder level on the wall and upside down so the sensors don't scan the floor area. Just be aware of this. 😃
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
Excellent demonstration! I have this system in my daughter's apartment and guess who lost the manual in the move? I was able to completely set up her system again and rename the devices by watching your video.
I set mine up almost 2 years ago, it's worked flawslesly. I would recommend using screws to attach your sensors, if you are attaching to wood trim. The sensors hold well on glass and metal, just not on wood.
I just purchased this system and wanted to have a visual of the process and I happened to pick the perfect one. Excellent video, I'm now ready to set it up. Thank you so much.
Word of advise. When placing motion sensors your better off placing on a wall not facing windows. In the past IR and Lightning from storms don't go together. Facing from an outside wall may prevent false alarms.
My biggest concern was how well the sensors would work on elaborate door frames...your video put me at ease (all other videos have simple door frames where everything lines up almost too conveniently!)

Hope they fixed that issue, the one where if you buy a hand held radio and set it to the same frequency it uses, it disables the whole thing, while broadcasting.
Hello mate, very helpful video thank you.. I just bought one of these then realised you got to pay 20 quid a month for use of the app and video monitoring etc, unlike the ring system which I kinda wished I bought now, but both have their pros and cons. Did you ever find out the system could be hacked or not? As I’m worried about that..
What about how to set this up so you can see through your iPhone both cameras and if alarm is set off by intruder. Will my phone get alert, for that matter will both my and my wife phone get an alert?. I hope those instructions are in the box, I'm setting it up tomorrow.
One point I'd like to make. I unboxed my system and now instead of a setup guide, all you get is a QR code sheet to point you to the smart phone app. I downloaded the app, setup the base station (which HAS to be within Bluetooth range when you're setting it up) and then Step 2 is SIGN UP. They don't really want to let you proceed without choosing a plan. I temporarily skipped these steps (siren only mode) and then the next step is to setup the keypad. Guess what ? "Keypad not found". Setup is anything BUT simple. I now have to go through steps to remove the batteries from the base station and do a pairing of the keypad to the base, which was supposed to have been done at the factory. Not even off the ground yet and I'm already not at all impressed. If I move the base station into another room (where my smart TV gets WiFi reception) I can't see it anymore. Should have returned this while I was still within the 2 week window.
@@U2WB Thanks, just unfortunate it's out of date now. I don't have the original system anymore as we've moved house. I might reach out to Simplisafe again. Hope you get yours sorted 👍🏻
I set a system up a few days ago, and in the envelope for the yard sign was a booklet that gave (admittedly poor) instructions for setting it up using the keypad instead of the app, and there was also the QR code sheet on the top I got fooled into signing up for the monitoring when I purchased the system, so i ended up using the app
The base station runs on battery power for up to 24 hours when disconnected, IF the thief either took those batteries out or destroyed the station it would immediately send a notice to the cops. Hoped this helped!
Hey Geeky Stuff, loved your video. Would be great if you or others could reply to some of the great questions below. For example, does it say “back window left open” if you set the alarm. Another example, will the alarm go off and says “intrudeter detected, front door sensor”... and finally, does it have a battery feature on the dashboard to tell you how good or bad the batteries. Are. Oh and one more thing - is there an app? I used to have something called Alertme system 10 years ago which did all of this - until HIVE bought them out and destroyed them.
Yes, if a door or window is left open and you arm the alarm, the base station will warn you. When an alarm is triggered, you can see in the app which sensor was triggered. The base station does indicate when battery is low on devices, but obviously I've not had that happen yet.
You should change the time before your alarm, someone could have got in, made a cuppa, watched some Netflix stole your TV and legged it by time it went off! haha! On a serious note only thing that puts me off is someone could just walk in, see your speaker and unplug it before the alarm goes off, is this where the battery would kick in and it still go off?
I have seen so many people comment about the frequency this security system operates on and that it can be scrambled! Have you tried to do this Mike? I was under the impression they resolved this...
Simplisafe needs to compete with RING, They need to offer the app for free and only charge a monthly fee if you want monitoring.
I got the SS system because it offers a remote. Not just the phone app..... Ring has no remote available.
What about how to set this up so you can see through your iPhone both cameras and if alarm is set off by intruder. Will my phone get alert, for that matter will both my and my wife phone get an alert?. I hope those instructions are in the box, I'm setting it up tomorrow.
Nicely done video. Great to the point info and presentation. It is helping me decide on a system.
Glad it's helped! Thanks for watching 😁
Great video. Your camera quality is phenomenal. What kind of camera did you use to record this?
Thank you, I used a Canon M50 Mirror less Camers
So you can take the batteries off the base station to turn off the alarm?
Thank you. Very helpful!!
You do realize you just showed the world your wifi SSID and password right? But other than that, great video!
Thanks for the awesome video! Very helpful! Cheers from Pickerington, Ohio USA!
Glad it helped. Might be doing a 12 month later video too 🙂
@@6833066837 it's actually 13 months now lol! I will definitely be doing one soon.
You were very helpful. Thank you so much…
Glad it helped 🙂
Ah! Looks like I need to do an updated version of this video. Maybe a new system.
@@GeekyStuff Mine is Gen 3.
Still, this is a well-presented video and I enjoyed it.
@@U2WB Thanks, just unfortunate it's out of date now. I don't have the original system anymore as we've moved house. I might reach out to Simplisafe again. Hope you get yours sorted 👍🏻
I set a system up a few days ago, and in the envelope for the yard sign was a booklet that gave (admittedly poor) instructions for setting it up using the keypad instead of the app, and there was also the QR code sheet on the top
I got fooled into signing up for the monitoring when I purchased the system, so i ended up using the app
Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Great job and video on the set up. Thanks!
Nicely done clean and neat.
Can the camera be used individually without the base and keypad?
Great job. Excellent instructional video. 👍
So what happens if thief comes and disconnects the base station were alarms goes off? Shouldn't this be hiding? Or takes the remote by door?
I was wondering the same thing.
The base station runs on battery power for up to 24 hours when disconnected, IF the thief either took those batteries out or destroyed the station it would immediately send a notice to the cops. Hoped this helped!
Good thing its easy to set up, their install service doesn't show up or call back
Super helpful - thank you!
Thank you so much for making this video!!
How did you enter the name for Back Door under the OTHER option?
I have another question, can you buy additional cameras?
Yes you can buy more cameras :)
Thank 😀
That's super brilliant and easy to install x
You should change the time before your alarm, someone could have got in, made a cuppa, watched some Netflix stole your TV and legged it by time it went off! haha! On a serious note only thing that puts me off is someone could just walk in, see your speaker and unplug it before the alarm goes off, is this where the battery would kick in and it still go off?
Yea mate, the battery would kick in 👍
Wonderful QUIET !
does this thing link to Alexis or similar? Eg, is my data linked to anything resold? Thanks for posting!
very informative, thank you!
Excellent review with instructions, thank you
