    Great review. I have had SimpliSafe since the company started. I've upgraded to their latest generation system at three locations and I can say that after years of experience using the SimpliSafe system that it is definitely worth purchasing. I have been extremely happy with every aspect of the system/company. Highly recommended!

    Excellent comprehensive review. We’re an original SS user and are on Gen 3 now. OF NOTE, SS is now offering an alternative more permanent bracket for the camera. Ideal for “under the eve” installation. The system is great. But like ANY security system you should work with it and spend the time to adjust any and all levels of sensitivity to fit your needs, your lifestyle! And SS let’s you do all of that.

    I have 7 of these and they collectively provide fantastic coverage for my property. It's great being able to check the feed(s) when I hear a random noise vs having to go outside to scan.

    The magnet mount looks like a bad idea.

      There is a wire security cage available on eBay. I use the outdoor power cable with it since it is a high traffic area. No need to swap out or recharge batteries. And if power goes out the battery takes over. Win-win.

    Excellent vid. What I would add, and yes I have two of them and the doorbell pro, is to play around with the settings, especially those pertaining to the motion sensing, and do it over a week or so before deciding if it good for you, or not. Same thing with the doorbell camera. On initial installation of the one covering the driveway, I was getting more notifications than I wanted. Adjusted the field of view but found decreasing the sensitivity and using the people setting gave me exactly what I wanted. I chose the extra battery route. May get the solar panel but so far have not needed it.

    I have the system already and Arlo cameras around my house. This morning I was awaken by our motion detector light going off and 4 AM. I opened my Arlo app and saw some creep trying to break into our car. When the light went on he ran. Obviously, I need a camera on that corner of the garage and remembered this option for our system. Excellent review! I'm installing a Simplisafe system for my mom because someone broke into her house 😡 so far I'm super impressed. I have the same kit to install in my condo too. I really appreciate you going though the details. Simplisafe's install instructions are probably the best I've ever seen but you're explanation of the settings and is top notch.
    The criticism I've seen about the magnetic mount is honestly silly. My answer is if that's your concern then mount it where it's too high. People looking to break in/violate your space don't bring ladders LOL!
    BTW Gabe, you get extra points for the Nashville SC poster 😉 I used to live there and was bummed the team didn't materialize until I moved but now my city is getting a team 😁🎉🍻 So stoked!

      Charges should keep someone from grabbing. Depending on the laws in your area, it could be an automatic theft charge versus trespassing if you wonder in someone's yard and don't take anything. A possible class A misdemeanor with up to one year in jail and a $2500 fine. Third strike sends it to a felony and more jail time. Don't steal folks.

    Great video... thanks! But you missed one HUGE flaw with the motion detection on the outdoor camera! I have my outdoor camera in our entry way. If the alarm is on (Home or Away mode) I'd like to be notified if someone comes in the entry way. When the system is off, I am going in and out dozens of times per day and DO NOT want to be notified each time. The SimpliSafe system CAN NOT do that! When you go to bed or leave the house you must go through the 7 steps to turn on notifications, then go through the 7 steps to turn notifications off when you turn the system off.
    Way, way, way too much of a hassle. I should be able to set that, similar to how other devices can be configured in SimpliSafe. Now looking at the Ring system...

    • @TheGhilliesniper88
      @TheGhilliesniper88 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The website says it can last 3-6 months on one full charge. I haven't had it that long so I have not been able to test that yet but I still have not needed to charge it yet. The solar panel is kind of ugly and expensive in my opinion so I did not opt for it. If I only need to charge it twice a year or so, that does not bother me.

    I have one. Good: Image quality is excellent, easy install, no power needed (I use the solar panel). BAD: Only records for 15-20 seconds when activated by motion and stops recording even when motion continues. That's useless when something is amiss - which is the whole point of buying it. I called help line and they said take it out and reinstall. Made no difference. I called back and then they said that's just how it works. Records MANUALLY as long as you like but don't count on it for automated security. BTW the "indoor" cameras with outdoor mod work fine, recording as long as there's motion. I was pleased to see they finally had an "outdoor" camera. Not so pleased I wasted my money.

      They make indoor cameras already which work pretty well. I'm using 4 indoors right now, and about to buy 4 outdoor ones, but wanted to check the reviews first. I was hoping this review would cover how sturdy the camera holds on to its mount as that's what I'm concerned about the most and see that SimpliSafe offers the extra sturdy mounts which he didn't use or mention here... I was worried w/the strong winds we get in my area whether the camera may get knocked off on to the ground though and at least he mentioned his stayed fine, but I would've liked to see more evidence of that like the recording during a storm.

    How long does the battery last before needing to charge it & do you get an alert when the battery is running low if you do not have the solar panel? I live on a private property set far back from the road so there is not a lot of activity I would think to drain the battery other than me outside working on my property, random deliveries, and random wildlife at night. If it lasts a good 6 months in between charges, I'm good with that, but if I have to get a ladder and take it down every month to charge it, then I may have to look into getting a solar panel. Thanks.

    Great video. Very informative. Only thing that puzzles me is if someone can reach the camera, they can turn it away or remove. How well does it see if mounted say 15 feet high?
    How strong is magnet? Can it be knocked off with a pole if mounted high or by throwing a ball at it?

    • @SecurityDotOrg
      @SecurityDotOrg  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We get this question a lot. Generally speaking if mounted high and pointed in a direction where the camera would see the burglar as they are approaching, makes it highly unlikely that a thief would go to those lengths.

    • @chrismartinelli9153
      @chrismartinelli9153 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SecurityDotOrg I agree. Chances of someone doing that are slim but, if the world were perfect we wouldn’t be discussing at all right?
      I’ve seen vids with it mounted what looks like 10+ feet. I’ll see how it performs. Rather be safe than sorry.

    • @dmherman4208
      @dmherman4208 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You do not really want to mount it that high. I have found the H.264 compression rate and the IR/PIR limits are overtaxed. You may have a very pixelated video even at 1080p or miss the motion. Instead, I have found a wire security cage on eBay that will fit over the outdoor cam when used with the mag mount. Works to keep animals off of it too! It makes the camera obvious but better than it getting stolen. Works with Blink,Reolink,Eufy and others as well. Just search for anti-theft security camera cage or similar to that.

      @@SecurityDotOrg You get the question a lot because it is happening a lot! Thieves / vandals do not care about being seen, especially since all they need is a hoodie or ball cap to hide their identity. These cams are not the greatest. I have found a wire security basket/cage that fits over these and several other cameras. Even if someone managed to dislodge the cam from the magnet it is not going to get out unless they use tools. It is more unlikely bad guys will not take that kind of time.

    Looking at buying one. I hear people saying they only catch the end of any interaction due to it being in sleep mode? How well does this capture someone coming and going?

    Does the camera lens have to be on top? I want to mount one on my front porch and may have to mount it inverted from it's typical orientation. Will it flip the image or will it be upside-down?

    What do you think about mounting this camera indoors? Simplisafe's indoor camera is wired and where I'd mount them I definitely don't want visible wires. Basically, I'm looking for ways to replace my POS Ring system. I hate Ring so much, but I've invested so much 🤦🏻‍♂️

    I have the SS doorbell pro and don't have a base station. For $10 per month I have Self Monitoring with Camera Recordings and can add up to 10 cameras. This outdoor camera is just another wifi camera like the ones I already have. I can't imagine why they are requiring a base station to use this outdoor camera.

    Thanks for the review. I have a Simplisafe system, thinking of the outdoor camera. I wish it had a siren like the Ring floodlight. What are your thoughts? I wonder if one could be wired into the camera?

    • @SecurityDotOrg
      @SecurityDotOrg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI barkingsheltie, I do not know if I would hardwire anything to the camera as it is likely to void the warranty, but I feel like you could figure out something with another product that could serve the same purpose and may be easier. I wish it could do it all, but alas, that is not what they have done with this first version.
