    Great job. I do a lot of wood working, DIY projects and sketchup is great for this. For cut lists I use a program called CUTLIST but the one you referenced looks easier to use. I built my hatchling rack similar to this. Used plywood instead, did 48 inch back so I used two 21 inch heat tape for back heat. It works but given the tubs have that taper in the back the tubs dont get close enough to the heat tape for me. The tub gets the temp I want but I have to put the thermostat much higher. The snakes are always plastered against the back wall of the tub versus their hides. I think next time I will do belly heat for them. It seems it would give them a wider heat source that they are on top of versus close to, if that makes sense. I do keep the ambient temperature 70-75 as well.

    The overlay is riva tuner. Pull up your background apps with the ^ in the lower right corner of your windows desktop. Close out of riva tuner or open it and disable the overlay.

    Do you ever have any issues with heat with the tubs that are not flat on the bottom? I know most have some kind of contour for stacking purposes but I didn't know if it causes any problems with getting the hot spot hot enough. Going to be building my own rack soon and I'm trying to decide between 32qt sterilite tubs or ordering vision tubs. Just curious your take on it. Thanks

    Great video Jason. I was going to suggest running two strips of 12" heat tape until you brought up using the herpstat 4. That's a really cool idea. I've been looking for a similar rack idea to use with colubrids. This rack looks like it would be perfect. I'm glad you made this video.
    Quick question... What saw blade do you use to keep from splitting the edges of your melamine when you make your cuts?

    • @MorphMixologyReptiles
      @MorphMixologyReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man. I don't think you can perfectly prevent chipping but two tips to help.
      1. Put a masking tape line where you are gonna cut
      2. Use a finishing blade with a very high teeth count

    • @davidcallahan4367
      @davidcallahan4367 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jason, I recently spoke with a cabinet maker who uses melamine. They told me that they use a high tooth count on their blades and run them in reverse. Give it a try and see what you think.

  • @MalcolmCrabbe
    @MalcolmCrabbe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you get round to building this ?

  • @TheShadowrider81
    @TheShadowrider81 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    its a lot more work, but i would do 3" belly heat and split the rack into 3 zones from top to bottom rather than side to side. you would have 6 lvls each zone to turn off when its not full, and each lvl would be fully heated rather than just 1 tub per lvl. and smaller heat tape pulls less amps and belly heat is more efficient at transferring the heat to the snakes so u can set a lower temp on the tstat and get the same temp in tub. Also, since u figured in a gap for air, u could skip the routing for the tape and just use aluminum tape to hold it in place. the wear of the tubs sliding on it would be marginally more, but it would still be fine. i made a rack that way and its lasted for years now.

    • @MorphMixologyReptiles
      @MorphMixologyReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should never let your tubs touch and slide on the heat tape. Very dangerous and much higher likelihood of a fire. I will never slide a tub on heat tape

    This is awesome!! I was wondering how you built those sweet racks. I have 9 snakes and am trying to breed this year so a hatchling rack would be very helpful 😃

  • @mychaltoriroyalpythons7073
    @mychaltoriroyalpythons7073 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could run two 12" as back heat will be indirect heat anyways since there is a lip on the tubs. Are you going to offset the back of the shelves from the back or just sandwich the heat tape in?

    • @MorphMixologyReptiles
      @MorphMixologyReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya I could but I like the idea of being able to unplug each column if I'm not using it. And yes probably just going to sandwich the heat tape. It doesn't get hot enough to hurt anything anyways.

    Thank you for doing this video! I have been using a different program, and this one looks so much easier to use! The design library on the website is super cool too. Which program do you use to record your screen for doing computer based tutorials like this?

    You have bade width set to 1 inch. Try putting in .0675 1/16 inch what most table saw blades are.

    Love your vids very much. But watch a sketchup tutorial. If you grab the piece where you and press ctrl it will automatically copy it. And when you were stacking them, after pasting the second level where you want you can type the letter x then the number of levels you want. So "x8" and it will automatically fill in the levels. Just so.e tips for people here in 2021. Otherwise, love your videos man

    Only thing I can tell ya is the bad thing about buying from the dollar tree is the fact that those are off brand and may not be produced for long periods of time so if you dont but a shit ton of those you may be shit outta luck when you need more tubs. I buy my 6qt steralite hatchling tubs from Target for $1 and the design hasnt changed in years so I can always buy more and they fit. I really do like that program though beings as I am a drafter for a living this will be super easy for me to use!

      Ya makes sense. From my experience this tub is always available, albeit not necessarily in this color. I found where you can order them in bulk quantities. But thanks for looking out
