Go-Karting Top Tips - BRAKING!

Go Kart Racing, whether it's rental go-karting or crazy fast racing karts all rely on you being able to use your left foot properly, and master those tricky brakes. Press the brakes too hard and you'll lock up and spin like a top, too gently and you'll get overtaken by all your friends. It's seriously hard to master, but very satisfying once you get it!

never let off gas just destroy the brakes to win
Meaning you ruin the fun for the next person to use it and it puts the next user in danger. I know this because I used to frequent a track to practice 3 days a week after school and the brakes felt weird but it didn’t hinder my speed till the cable gave way after 4 laps and sent me through and under a barrier at 25mph. Use the pedals correctly but using one at a time please.
@@ewanwhite4644 boo hoo i guess🤷🏻♂️
@@ewanwhite4644 thats the fault of whoever the kart belonged to. where was your backup brake cable?
@@ewanwhite4644 too long didn’t read, don’t care
@@ewanwhite4644Not familiar with this issue, but if it's said in the preraceinfo... then I agree with you.
Also lean backwards to put more weight on the rear. Most rental karts only have brakes on the rear, so having more weight on the rear keeps the tires from blocking.
so useful skills,thanks for sharing
Thanks for the tip definitely going to use it!!!!!!!!!! 🏎️💯🏁🔥

as a professional out door gokart driver (this is only for 2 stroak karts with a modern chassis) the best way is to be aggressive with petals, never ever ever breack while turning.
Both you and this guy saying not to brake while turning, but that's typically how I get the kart rotated everytime? I've only used rental karts, so they're never fast enough to actually need to brake in a straight line, I just tap/jab the brakes occasionally to help turn into a corner.
@@whothebeast666 ive only drivien outdoor karts so this might not work with rentals. when ever you brake into a corner (trail breaking as i call it) you dont allow the kart to rotate. this happens becuase gokarts dont have a dif on the rear axle causing that wheels to not roll at different speeds. to fix this the chassis on a gokart is made to flex so that you can lift the inside rear tire up off the ground and allow it to roll at a different speed. by breaking into the corner you stiffen the rear end and there for not allowing chassis flex or any type of rotation. this is further pronounced by most karts only having rear breaks.
for rental karts my guess would be that you are experiencing a rear end lock up, where the rear tires lock from pressing the brakes to hard causing the rear end to swing around for rotation. this method is not quick as you loose momentum and with slow karts this is very hard to get back.
edit: it’s probably that the indoor kart is so bad that it wont work properly. if youve got some time and money id recommend trying a real kart as they are so much fun to drive and can be really really fast.
@@ispeedyy9995 I think you have a point that the rental karts are very different, but I'm not doing a full rear lockup. I'm just lightly squeezing the brakes and that kinda gets the pitch of the kart to the front to help me turn in. You're right tho that the karts are slow and hard to regain speed and if I brake in a straight line, I almost always scrub too much speed off and struggle to get it back.
Also what kind of real kart do you suggest or what kart are you talking about?
@@ispeedyy9995 No you know what is the thing indoor? The surface is a lot less grippy than on the termac, as most of the time indoor tracks are on smooth concrete like in a parking lots. With a lot less traction it is worth it to nearly lock the wheels or to smoothly trailbrake as this is the way to make the kart rotate into the corner.
@@whothebeast666 i recommend just renting something cheap to try it out and if you like it than go from there.
Also, the reason why a fast sharp initial application of the brake pressure to the maximum braking potential at the beginning of braking is the kart will be at its least forward loaded balance at the start of braking, meaning the rear tyres have max grip potential and thus max braking potential at the start of braking. As braking force increases, maximum weight transfer off the rear tyres occurs which leads to a lower maximum brake force potential for the rear tyres so you have to lessen the brake pressure.
So to absolutely maximise the total braking potential of a rear brake only kart throughout the braking zone, max peak brake pressure at the start (that you want to achieve practically instantaneously so you don’t waste/miss that highest braking potential at the start) and then a little bleeding off the max pressure to a slightly lower max pressure as the rear tyres become less loaded from maximum braking force reducing the load and therefore grip from the rear tyres. Hope that made sense. :P
Cool but you worded it in a difficult way
Also called trail breakinf
@@deakksyy I'm glad chatgpt exists.
I always loved scandi flicking it when I was a kid😂
I just went to a go karting place on Saturday. The brakes were WAY too sensitive. I found it both easier and better to let off the gas when I needed to slow down instead of braking outright
definitely learn proper breaking you’ll be 200% faster
Bro at my local go-karting track I don’t even brake, I just try to spend the least time in the corners and a lot on the throttle and it works 10/10 for me!
Only went go karting once before like 2 years ago but it was fun as hell, idk if I was "good" per say considering that I went with others who were 1st timers (except for one person) and I came 1st. It got to the point where near the end I was rammed really hard by that one person whos done it before and he lapped me twice while I was dizzy. Still beat him tho
Really wanting to go again recently tho, maybe bring some friends and/or family, this just looks really fun
Not necessarily, high end carts have brake calipers on the front as well. But they don’t have as much stopping power as rear
This makes me want to get back into the really expensive hobby of dirt racing karts on oval tracks .
Go-Karting top tip: dont die.
The karts that im gonna drove next do have front and rear brakes and i wanna try practicing neutral steer
But that probably only works on rear brakes
To be honest the professional kart ride is when you cannot make kart slide:)
I swear. I went karting with some semi pros one day and they looked the slowest, but were the fastest. They were so chill and always keeping the kart on edge, but never sliding or doing aggressive moves. Amazing.
One thing i learned: brakes are decoration (mostly) 😂
the karts at my local track cut the throttle for longer than you’re on the brake so you end up losing time vs just letting off 🤷♂️
Full send or no send. Thank you for the tip 💜
I learned this style by never letting my foot off the gass and breaking to turn the kart for me but I'm still slower lol most of the fast guys at my track modulate hardly break i used to do that but i adopted smooth hard breaking to avoid crash
Turning under braking isn’t a problem (at least where I am karting), you‘ll just have to adjust the brake pressure. Playing the F1 games without brake assistant helps improve massively.
Bro you’re fucking slow then if you don’t have an issue turning while braking
first time I was karting I was like 3 laps in front of my friends and became pretty boring
Find superior friends. 😂
@@DrR1pper It is hard at some stages, imagine being me, going karting once a few months and usually being the best of all 10 people on the track, setting the top 10 time of the day where around 200 people are each day.
Sadly most go-karts have sticky brakes so your better off not using them in some cases and just intentionally understeering instead
It's when a small press or lock gets extended due to a bad linkage, meaning a small chirp becomes a complete stop before you can go again
I'll try this out. I usually brake very firmly, release a tiny bit of the wheels lock up, then gradually let off the brake as I turn in. I always thought trail braking gave me the chance to brake later.
That's cool, but the closest and cheapest go karting place near me has karts so slow you'd get better acceleration by getting out and pushing
Ah that hit marker was sooo nostalgic to the golden days of COD
For my birthday party I went to a place with go karts, unless I did it by accident while looking behind me I never let off those brakes
I noticed this when i was on the track and someone spun out and i had to slam the breaks. I try to explain it to my friends but they think im just spewing.
good music taste 👍
This guy knows 100x more than Cameron.
At a track near me.
Unless you're getting blocked by slow people or have a bad kart, you don't need the brakes😆
Thats so bad, this means that the track is boring, I once was on the track that was flat out all the time expect 2 U turns, it was pretty boring.
@@jerzygadzinowski1731 Different preferences I suppose.
I enjoy the idea that when people behind me start battling they gotta start using the brake and end up doing slower lap times.
Even better is when I catch up to somebody and battle them and we both end up losing the guy ahead of us, because we are taking slower lines through the track battling. Then it's super fun to have to settle in a fast pace after passing to close the gap again.
I’m a professional outdoor kart racer, some tracks you don’t need brakes and for the tracks you do, just tap the brakes about 90% force so the kart starts to lock the wheels and spin but then let off and it will get you a faster turn In. It’s called trail braking.
You dont need to lock them to trailbrake, the best way is to be as near locking the wheels as possible without locking them.
KZ Karts have also front brakes(gearbox in general)
Brakes where were going we don't need brakes
Just wait until you have a kart with 0 pushback on the brake. No idea if you’re braking or not until you’ve locked up
What is the song name in the backround?
So key is late on brakes, and gentle on brakes
actually, you can feel with your foot when brake pads getting contact with brake disk, and locking your wheels.
I kinda worked out they only breaked at the rear on a rental kart lol...
Is trail breaking a thing in karting?
What’s the song name?
Thanks for tip now I can’t find any Go-kart😂
Ive been to that inside track its in cardiff
Normaly loads of tracks made where no need to use brakes due to kart brake in turns anyways
I hold both petioles and slide right night to the walls
How to be faster then your friends……..
Go with people who don’t care about motorsports😂
I already do it like this only
Song?
So, I'm missing my left food. Any advice?
What is the name of this sick track?
I came here for go karting but then found this fire track 🔥
Track in the beginning is rouge racing (my local track) I’m not sure about the others
Is this track at Harlow?
What kart do u ride
as soon as you go into a slide from braking to hard MASH the throttle this is the kart not knowing what to do with all its power. it’s hard to slide once you figure this.
Karting when
So always break in corners for maximal fun?
Hey where can I get go carts I am having trouble finding how to get a LN cart
Start with indoor rentals then go to outdoor rentals then you can think about buying a race kart there are many options Birel ART
Thanks for the tip
Who else dose not care about the win only the drifts you can do
ive been here!!!
im left footed so its not going to be a problem for me
Last clip is where?
Teamsport Dunstable :)
@@Paynos oh it looked like teamsport cardiff
never use breaks just full gas the whole time. Hit gas going into corners and just turn harder to slide to break
Well this practically explained nothing
I rarely use brakes just gas
Did understood where the tips is
What about trail braking? Ain't nothing like late braking into a turn and forcing those front tires into the track.
I dont brake like this and im still quick 😂
Just imagine how much quicker you’d be if you actually braked
@@viggoaiking7582 i dont need to bud i race irl and i brake later than everyone else and im quicker so i dont need your advice
most tracks hardly even need braking the kart just oversteers through the corner
It is not faster to slide through the corner compared to going slightly slower on the entry to maintain grip for the whole corner.
At my go karting i just dont press the brake
No such things as brakes to me mate!
What about just powersliding round every corner
Fun but not fast ;)
But on slower rental karts at go kart places or urban air or something you can just let off the gas a little instead of braking
brake thier lang before race
Literally just play Gran Turismo and you'll become a master at Go Karting
how do i win go karting
Speed
@@Paynos One time I was indoor carting just for fun and I was gaining on a 9 year old and as I was about to pass him, I matched his speed and we did rock paper scissors. He won so I backed off and let him win 😂 good times.
@@AustinTheGreatVR lmao. 😂 Not sure i can believe the story but funny non the less.
Is this not just common sense
i dont agree with this brake hard slide a litte bit releas and stear
Also slide the seat all the way forward. More weight on front wheels, better handling
Y
Not true, it’s learning to steer less. If you want learn more just ask.
Depends but usually this is true.
たなまさあ
That’s probably a tip that helps 1%. It’s control of the gas tip that is more needed and useful on rental karts.
Ive never touched the brakes on rental karts a single time during a race lmao
@@OfLastingThunder
Yeah you kinda need to hit the brakes lol. Some tracks just have 1 turn that only needs brakes but you always need to hit the brakes if you want to go fast lol. Unless your doing those 15mph kiddy karts lol
