Thanks for the video. I have a 2019 Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE LT +, and I was able to successfully replace them. It took my 9 hours on it, because I had to run to some stores for a size 7 metric socket to loosen the two airbox clamp. Then my spark plug socket fell into the far left hole and because of the angle, I had to run to Harbor Freight to buy those flexible magnet. I ended up duct-taping the spark plug and extension socket so they didn't fall apart. Your video was very helpful. Note, you'll want to have another person, or use MotoAndy's method to hold the tank up. I tried using a 2x4 piece of wood, but that was taking up the precious space to remove the two outside sparkplugs. Good luck.
Apart from the fairings, this is pretty much the same procedure for the Z1000SX and Z900/ Z900RS. One good tip, put a little di-electric grease onto the shanks of the coil sticks, next time they will come out really easy... Thanks for the video!
Hello Andy, I'm trying to change the spark plugs and would need to know the length of the 16 mm spark plug wrench you used. The one I have is 65 mm and when I put the articulated adapter on it doesn't reach the spark plug. If I put the extension in it touches the chassis and it doesn't fit. Thank you very much for your videos, they are of great help to me. All the best.
Your channel has been a great resource to me this year as I bought a 2016 Versys 1000, so thank you very much, really. Silly question, does the tank need to be completely empty, like do I need to drain it or is fuel light on good enough? Thanks!
Thanks, the tank does not have to be completely empty, but it is better not to have too much in it because it will be heavy, which makes work difficult
Maybe I'm late, but I wanted to tell you Andy, that iridium spark plugs are not checked with the tab feeler gauge but with the wire feeler gauge, because it could ruin the coating material of the electrodes. Anyway, great video
Thanks for showing. Now I know why I shouldn’t buy an Versys 1000 😮 Every 12000km such a large surgery … no wonder, that Kawasaki is charging 500-600 bugs for a service.
Large surgery? I think you need to watch my other video, then you would know why not to buy Yamaha 😅 th-cam.com/video/FGZY6BUxqfI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pzuXMlYjqJ9ibQVi
@@MotoAndy Holy moly … yeah, that‘s indeed much worse 😳 Nevertheless I don‘t think that a 12000km change interval for a spark plug change is a good thing. It would mean that I have to change spark plugs every year, with a 600€+ bill on it. If I remember correctly, I had my first and only spark plug change on my 2013 Suzuki Hayabusa at around 32000km. Those are actually good examples for what I should look after on TH-cam and at the dealerships, when I’m looking for a replacement of my stolen Africa Twin.
The replacement of the spark plugs is not as accurate as it is written in the book, my dealer changed the spark plugs after 24,000 km, after 12,000 km they were not changed, but only checked and it was found that replacement is not yet necessary. But every dealer does things differently.
@@MotoAndy Yeah. Unfortunately where I live, there is only one Kawasaki Dealer and they‘ll charge you for everything 😩 It was a huge factor why I‘ve sold my Z1000SX (now Ninja 1000SX) at the time. It was a very unpleasant experience 😵💫
@MotoAndy Neat and well done. The 1st cyl one is a b%#$@ and one has to be very careful with all those adaptors needed not to strip it. Just one note - the iridium plugs are not supposed to be even checked for correct gap, because the iridium tip is VERY hard and very thin and that means it is very easy to damage while inserting the gauge.

@@MotoAndy After watching some more maintenance videos of possible candidates I came to the conclusion, the Versys isn't that bad in comparison 🤣
Nice job Andy, deep respect! How much time did it take?
Thanks, about 2 to 3 hours, 5 with filming 😉 so you own me 2 hours 🤣 greetings
@@MotoAndy Do you know how much time it took me to watch this? ;)
What is the recommended mileage for oil and spark plugs change?
Hi Andy, how many km (miles) did you replace the plugs? BTW you don't need to lift the instrument panel to remove the tank.
the manufacturer recommends changing the spark plugs every 12000 km, I personally think that it is a slight exaggeration, I replaced it at 24000 km
@@MotoAndy I thought iridium plugs were supposed to be good for 100,000 km or something.
Maybe they are, but it is not what a manufacturer want 😂.
