Tools needed: Torx T-20, T-30, T-40. 17MM Wrench. Strap or cup style Oil filter wrench (I of course used water pump pliers). A jack and a jack stand or a very skinny person.
FYI - an 86mm, 16-flute oil filter wrench socket cup is what's needed. The oil filter housing states 25 N-m to reinstall and 5 N-m to reinstall the oil filter housing drain plug.
Great job, thorough, I have a 2019 T5, and so i'm about to roll off of the freebies and do my first "on my own" change. One question or comment, the ACEA A5/B5 Euro oil spec, those require a bit of fine print reading in Wally World, most of the EURO labelled oils are the older A3/B4 spec which is a tad thicker. If you wish to adhere strictly to the spec, prepare to have to read the labels in the store, or just order the stuff. Castrol EDGE is recommended by Volvo, but if you want true PAO based synthetic oil, Liquid Moly (German) has an A5/B5 product that is a true synthetic under European rules, which are tighter now than US, due to a lawsuit result, in which the rules defining synthetic oil in the US were loosened...
Fantastic public service! Thanks! The only thing I was wondering about after watching the video was whether or not Volvo provides torque specs for the oil filter bolt, the oil filter cover and drain plug.
I don't know of any. The housing simply stops when it meets the block, their may be specs for the Drain plugs but I haven't found them. I would put a torque wrench on the fasteners for you to see what I put them at but we sold the car last year and bought a Tesla Y. I won't miss doing the oil changes on the Volvo! Good job. I just bought one of these, have been changing the oil on my XC90's for awhile so see the commonality. I can see a reason to replace those t connectors bolts for the shield with something more....."murican". Or maybe use the drill like you were doing. May consider not removing the drain plug on the filter housing, not worth the trouble it appears. I like also to add a little oil to the new filter upon install too.

I don't know if others have seen the same, but I got a non-specific letter from Volvo recently saying to replace the oil sticker in the engine compartment and insert a disclaimer into the manual's pages that say to use 0W-20 from now on. Odd since the factory stickers and manual say 5W-30. Seems like a big difference to me. Anyone else find this suspect??
I wouldn't know we've gone EV. I'm sure the majority of Volvo drivers in the US have not and never will open the hood much less care about oil viscosity.
Very likely, this change was considered from an environmental perspective: lower fuel consumption. Overall, the choice should depend on driving distance. During longer average distances the sligtly higher viscosity of a 5W30 may provide better piston ring sealing, but Volvo may have discovered later that effect of the lower viscosity on all the other components in this engine altogether still contributed more to a lower fuel consumption compared to the ring sealing effect alone.

The video showed u staeted the car while holding on the negarove button on the steering wheel and wait till it flash then release.. was it pushing the start button without starting the car or start the car.while holding the button.
Press the start button with your foot off the brake, then let off the start button. Then hold the down button on the cruise continually then put your foot on the brake pedal and push the start button. about 5 seconds after the car starts release the down button on the cruise control.
We are going to buy an xc40 soon and will eventually be doing oil change myself. Can you leave cover off or do you think road debris will cause damage?!
I would leave the cover on. I remember lots of wires and expensive looking stuff down there. The cover may also effect cooling and probably aerodynamics.

Surprised to see it doesn’t require 0w20, like all newer engines. Is it becuase of the North American market? (I’m from Europe)
According to the owners manual 0-30 in cold areas and 5-30 in warm. I'm in Florida and it never freezes.
