  • What's binge drinking feel like?:
Susan talks about the first time she took a drink and how it began to numb her insecurities about being deaf. She admits she can't stop after having one drink and why binge drinking became part of her life for more than a decade. Susan goes on to describe the moment she woke up on the bathroom floor and what her then-boyfriend said to her that made her realize she had a problem. She also remembers her first experience at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and what she realized about the other women who were there.

Congratulations! My dad is an alcoholic, he is 65, he started drinking at the age of 15. He doesn’t know anything else other than drinking . He has been to re habs, has had sobriety periods but he always relapses . He will drink for 2 months and then stop for 2. It has been such a battle for our family . I wish and hope he changes and have a fulfilling rest of the years he has . 50 years gone......................

I’m an active binge alcoholic. I’ve gotten better over the last few months, but when I turned 21 I drank for a year straight. Every night, even harder on the weekends. Fifths of Bacardi gone in 2 days just by me. Now 6 months later I only drink occasionally with friends. I don’t binge as hard anymore, I realized it’s ruining my body. My liver hurts, my lower back hurts. But I did it to myself, and now I’m getting better for myself. I never thought I would have been the person to tell my friends I’m fine to drive home... but I’m always the DD, so when we’re all out drinking it doesn’t matter how drunk I am because I’m driving. It’s a sick mindset and I used to be proud like “I’m a good driver when I’m drunk like I instantly sober up” but that wasn’t the case 2 months ago because I was blackout drunk; woke up on my best friends couch and asked what happened... she said I drove home and passed out on her couch. I have no memory of that night. I’m lucky I didn’t get arrested and I’m lucky I didn’t hurt or kill anyone.

How do you drive home but end up on your friends couch!? If you drove to your home, shouldn't you be on your couch not a friends!? This doesn't make any sense and it sounds totally fabricated!😂😅 You don't have to make up stories to sound cool dude!😂 I bet that's exactly what this is. A totally made up story for attention.

Susan is a person I've followed and admired for many years through her inspiring writing about triathlon. I now see her as even more inspiring and strong and insightful than ever.

I broke my nose in a blackout and that was my stop sign. Not an alcoholic but I tend to binge drink, which is something I'm changing.
