My Name is Max and I film while driving cars. No matter if they are old, fast, loud or electric. They need to be special! With several onboard cams, I record everything important to show you High-Speed-Runs, Acceleration tests ( 0-100 kph / 0-200 kph / 100-200 kph / 200-300 kph ) and test drives on German Autobahn or Road. Please note, Germany is the country of "no speed limit" highways. So in some places, it's allowed to drive very fast. But please don't try this if you are not an experienced driver !! I feel a lot of these old cars have a lot more soul and spirit to them than new cars, but maybe I'm just being old-fashioned.
Same here :) it's not a surprise though.
In the '90s and early 2000s, regulations on emission and safety standards were not even close to being as strict as today. That means car manufacturers could concentrate on making their cars nice to use and drive more, while nowadays it's all about passing regulations and trying to still make something nice, but making cars fun to drive and engaging is not a priority anymore, even with manufacturers like BMW who advertise themselves as "Sheer driving pleasure".
I drive a BMW E36 328i convertible slightly modded performance-wise, and a 1991 Ford Scorpio 2.9 Cosworth, both finally in great condition, I wouldn't trade them for a new 4-series convertible or new high-spec Mondeo even if they are, of course, faster.
The other day I was driving around on the twisty roads near to my place in the 328i, a 430i convertible was in front of me. Needless to say the 4er was faster in a straight line, not any faster in corners due to my specced-up suspension but surely more comfortable, but the sound it made versus the N/A I6 of my car was not even comparable. I had more fun, that is for sure.

AlexF owns an old BMW E36. I can only confirm what he says about this beautiful machine. I own an E34 M5. I say enough if I say that it is my 💖. You can not get enough of that sound. (My opinion and I think also AlexF's one, with his 2.8L engine)

By one of those old Spirit's cars from the 90's and enjoy the wonderful, lovely time with it, because you will! 💖

You're deceiving yourself. These engines are notoriously unreliable and have a reputation of destroying themselves. Their autoboxes are pretty weak too. It's a cool car, only because it's rare. Most modern German V8s suffer from cylinder wall scratches and oil starvation. It's so frustrating.

I never had that opinion. Though I did think the W221 interior looked like a spaceship. The 220 has aged better though.

MrCarGuy20 I think exactly the opposite, 220s are all rusted out, and could never compete with their predecessor the w140. 220s are cheap built mass produced cars of the very dark Daimler Chrysler times...even went back to sohc 3 valve engines with less power than the w140. The e65 however was modern and better than the e38 in every way, and had a very different interior and exterior from the e60 five series. 7 series after the e65 were never the same again, all look too similar to the 5 series, f01 and f10 are pretty much identical

I had a friend that bought a b7 Alpina brand new back in the day. Beautiful car and easy to drive but he eventually traded it after a little over a year because something was constantly breaking or malfunctioning.

Yep. The e65 is a sturdy beast. That's why I don't like driving it, I prefer cars which make you feel dangerously close to death at all times haha. But I like being driven in it. Nice to sleep
