Monopoly is a family board game that has endured many iterations, countless hours of gameplay and ever lasting memories of hours of purchasing properties, collecting rent and forcing other players into bankruptcy. Even big corporations such as McDonalds have run competitions based around the theme of Monopoly itself.
One of the greatest issues that has impacted on the game of Monopoly itself is the fact that many people play the game using house rules. In fact in some cases the house rules are a form of cheating favouring certain players over another.
Hasbro Gaming has now released a new version of Monopoly where Cheating is an integral aspect to the game itself. In fact cheating is encouraged!
We examine in this video whether this new iteration of Monopoly really allows players to 'cheat' per se' or is it simply yet another rethemed Monopoly game that will get lost amongst the other editions. Can cheating be done in a game which already has hundreds of different house rule variants or will this game set the story straight and make cheating an embraced element in this game of monopolising other players and bankruptcy. Funny because the original game was never meant to be fun it was made to show how one lucky person would and will with it as the goal slowly drain the other players if funds with literally almost no chance to win

It’s so op, I easily bankrupted my parents using this, and I was so scared that it would get used on me, I hid it and it has never been used since then.

Well, another OP card would be the Accuse another player chance card. For instance, when you have the Bank heist cheat, you can just flip the bank over and essentially steal all bank money at once.
Why hide it, when instead you could just publicly announce the ban?
@@poryg5350 what we did while we had the game was no stealing more than an entire pile. You had to leave some behind.
@@idogaming3532 Well, an entire pile of 500's is still going to secure you a victory. There are 26 bills. In fact, in many games even stealing 10 500's will be enough to secure you victory even with no properties to collect rent from.
A minor annoyance I have is that whoever created the "don't pay rent" cheat objective doesn't know the rules of the original Monopoly. The rules specifically state you don't owe money unless the renter asks for it. So you aren't really cheating if you don't tell someone you owe them money, it is on them to ask, not you to offer.

@@polocatfan Just looked up the rules PDF on the Hasbro site, and it still has this line "The owner may not collect the rent if he/she fails to ask for it before the second player following throws the dice." so it looks like it is still in the rules, don't ask, you aren't owed.

Already had a fight over this game Someone tried to do a cheat by switching properties with me I switched them back before the next player rolled the dice. I didn't call out cheater and he called out he cheated but my argument is where is the cheat if I switched them back before the player rolled

It's interesting that "free stay" is one of the cheat cards (3:58). The official rules for the original game state, "The owner may not collect the rent if he/she fails to ask for it before
the second player following throws the dice." So it is well within the rules to land on someone else's property and not pay unless asked.
wait is the "get out of jail free" card available in this editions because it would be OP to just double cheat and not caring about being caught with lower cheats

Well there was the frame another player card. So not only could you cheat with impunity you could send whoever eventually noticed to jail too.
My friend just took the entire 500s pile and sat on it for two rounds so no one accuses him and he pretty much just won.

I feel like this version does solve a lot of the major issues with traditional monopoly, it ends when all properties have been sold, meaning it has less of the "going on forever" vibe, the free parking has been revamped to hopefully stop people from doing the idiotic house rule of getting extra money (thereby elongating the traditional game which ends when all players but 1 are bankrupted), they've changed up the pricing and chances of landing on certain spots which means it's less of a given which regions are now the best to go for
Furthermore, by making cheating an element of the game, it can be rewarded when done successfully, but also gives appropriate punishments when caught (but also puts a penalty on false accusations) which means that cheating isn't as much of a thing people start a fight over, and instead is part of the game and something everyone is constantly on the lookout for.
I think the ending once the properties are sold is absolutely dull.

You are likely not the intended clientele for this game then. That's kind of the entire point, to be deceptive. Being observant and knowing the game inside and out is just one of many strategies that is encouraged in this play style. The better you know the game, the harder it is for your opponents to cheat and beat you.
What would happen in this situation. Are they forced to show you?

If you accuse then one of you will receive a penalty. Either you for falsely accusing, or them for cheating.

The price gouging cheat is useless, since the rent follows a simple equation.
Rent - half the STANDARD (not the cheater's edition one) nominal price of the title deed
Rent with set - nominal price
rent with hotel - double the nominal value
Hotel purchase price - 2.5x the nominal value.
The only real possibility of getting away with it would be in the property where you receive a free hotel, because it's the only one that does not follow this scheme of rent.
Honestly it seems like a tough way to play, most of my circle of friends are quite observant of calling out the smallest mistakes to begin with
I can relate. People have called me out as a cheater a few times even from a few money counting mistakes lol.
Having played it. I feel it suffers from two issues:
1. the simplification of the base games mechanics, as well as making the notes actually more distinct both lead to not only cheating being harder, but less fun.
2. proving that you cheated when claiming a goal is harder than calling someone out for it, and has no provision built in for it. It is quite easy for a table to agree no cheating occurred when it obviously did in order for the cheater to not gain an even greater advantage.
Maybe add like a referre to fix the 2nd problem.
Some games of monopoly add like a banker that isn't a player so I doubt this would be different.

Some of these cheats seem pretty much impossible to do without getting caught, and if you do somehow get away with it, you won't be able to do it again with those people.

Why would you want to? Being in jail is a good thing in Monopoly. You collect rent, and don't risk landing on other people's property.

I got this for Christmas, then at a Christmas party we had a little bit later, more of us ‘kids’ were playing it, and it was fun- but watching this I also went ‘wait that’s a thing?’ A few times- but 10/10 would recommend.

So, there's a coupe issues I have with this version... first, it implies that not paying rent is cheating. Monopoly was designed to be a "cheaters game", allowing people to ignore paying rent if the property owner wasn't paying attention. When someone lands on your property, it is YOUR job to ask them for their rent, not their job to offer it.
The other problem is that this version, from what I can tell, takes away houses and only uses hotels. The original version of Monopoly didn't even have hotels. Why? Because they re-introduce houses to the market meaning that other players can improve their income. The entire idea of the original game was to simulate a capitalist economy, where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.... hotels counter-act that, and go against the philosophy of the game.

I once won a game of this by buying park place and on the same turn placing a hotel I didn't buy on it and also stealing boardwalk (which because of the cheat card allowed me to build a free hotel on it) and by the end of the game I had almost half the 500's

British Monopoly is better even than your American. The Names of the Properties in the American Version is so weird. It just feels wrong.

Over here the British Version is considered standard and then the US version barely even exists.
I did a little research and found out that the UK version is far far more popular around the world compared to the US version. The US version was never really sold in the UK and vice versa. But the US version only really was popular in the US. And then Canada kinda had both versions until Canada finally got it's own version. But for the rest of the Commonwealth the UK version was the standard.

When you steal money from the bank theres nothing that says if you get caught to return the money you took, just empty the bank out and pay the penalty. Auto win
My ultimate tactic is if you have the slippery deed card on the middle you sit in front of the green and dark blue and just steal the greens every time the card comes up( even better when you do the Ultimate cheaters mode)

For the "Forced Deal" card, if i use this card to trade a property with an other player, do i have a choice to choose which properties i want from that player's hand ?
Yes you get to choose which property to swap.

We basically did this type of cheating with regular Monopoly. And then “house rules” allowed people to trade properties and grant “free stay” on that property to the other player. That way a couple of players could team up on another. If that property was ever traded, the “free stay” for that player remained. Keeping track of who got free stay as property sets changed hands was difficult.

It requires the right group and a tight table. My family is pretty laid back and it made it extremely obvious whenever someone was up to something.

I dunno. The board streamlining and the rulebreaking Community Chest and Chance cards sound interesting, but the cheating mechanic is lame. I think it would have been better to just do the former, forget the latter, then call it something like EXTREME Monopoly, or something.
Also, the only proper Monopoly property names come from Atlantic City. You Aussies are weird.

I bought this game and it’s so fun I was playing it with my mom for 6 hours and we didn’t even finish the game it’s so fun
You get a free hotel on Connecticut when you buy it what if you don’t own the 2 in that color group? Another time you are told to put a hotel on one of your properties , again what if you don’t own the other deeds in the color group? Doesn’t make sense.
If you get the hotel from a cheat card that tells you can gain one or from the board space itself, you can put a hotel on the stated property. Basically think of it as an in-game bonus. In all other cases, you would need to buy the whole property set before placing a house or hotel on there.

So my girlfriends family and I decided to play this game, it was cool and all till her sisters stupid boyfriend came over. I was annoyed but kept my cool and played the game. After an hour or two of playing, we decided to end the game after the last loop (with all the properties bought), with me having the community card that gave me the ability to send anyone to jail for no reason, I used it on him right when he was close to crossing the finish line, he was so mad but couldn’t show it knowing that he would not make it out without going bankrupt, and knowing everyone would be against him for “getting mad over a game” he kept his mouth shut and quit the game. Never have I ever laughed so hard at someone I hated so much. Thank you Monopoly Cheaters

I, personally, would cheat in small ways, paying a small amount less when buying properties, one taking an extra hundred when passing go
to me, it seems like all you gotta do is learn each cheat card, and then watch for people doing things that might fit those objectives. it just seems too easy, unless you put a time limit on each turn and keep it fast.
