    I had a P0234 on my Mazda CX5 2.2, turned out a hose had popped off a very difficult to access turbo actuator at the rear. Aside from throwing the error code under heavy and prolonged acceleration, two symptoms were oil in the intercooler (likely from the first turbo working so hard and never swapping to second turbo), and the wastegate readings via OBD2 were unusual. Easy fix once found.

    Couple of questions for anyone here:
    - has anyone used an electrolysis bath to clean parts like these? I’ve had great success using electrolysis with cast iron cookware and bike parts. Seems like it would be great for engine parts...?
    - do you apply any kind of lubricant to the internal parts after cleaning and before reassembling?
    Really fantastic video!

    • @mahmoodahmad7407
      @mahmoodahmad7407 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean 'Ultrasonic' bath?
      No, you can't use lubricant as the temps would just burn it off!
      Actually a light coat of dry fluffy carbon is a good lubricant.

    Another common fault on these is failure of the internal rubber gasket in the actuator resulting in a huge vacuum loss and non operation of the actuator with associated boost/ limp mode issues . ( i know because it happened both on mine and my daughters VW ) ...One way to check if this is the case is by applying suction / vacuum to the pipe going to the actuator a vacuum tester is idea but if you dont have one ... you should be able to "Just" get it to move by sucking on the pipe and watching the actuator to see if it moves ... New gaskets can be bought on ebay pretty cheap but are a bugger to fit properly ... a replacement actuator would be a simpler fix if possible ...

    just to put things right here and avoid confusion. That is NOT a waste gate actuator. You are working on a VVT (variable vane turbo). The vacuum diaphragm actuator operates the lever that moves the variable vanes on the exhaust side of the turbo which varies the boost pressure. A waste gate is totally different.

    I had the same fault on my 2009 Suzuki GV with limp mode, etc. After paying a garage to clean the turbo I now try to keep the variable vanes moving by using Millers Diesel additive, by occasionally pumping in oven cleaner and more especially have blocked the tube that brings the carbon back from the engine. Result ? Many years of trouble free turbo.

  • @cheekygit2002
    @cheekygit2002 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice video, I did all that to the turbo on my TD6 Range Rover which is basically a BMW M57 and the vanes were seized solid and i was getting P0046 which I believe is caused by overboost. I put it back on and still get the same overboost condition up hill under heavy acceleration, I changed the MAP sensor as the old one showed no resistance compared to the new one and then i started getting a P2038 map sensor fault which says it is shorted to 12 Volts but i think it is actually reading too high pressure as it doesn't give a fault if i disconnect the vacuum pipe to the actuator putting the turbo into minimum boost and it doesn't give the over boost fault either with the vacuum pipe removed . i have already replaced the actuator solenoid and tested everything with a hand vacuum gauge and so I am only left with the length of the actuator arm as far as i can tell. The vacuum, drops to 5 inHg under heavy load and when I looked at the actuator with a vacuum of 5 inHg applied it had already moved a fair distance so my next move is to lengthen the actuator arm unless you have any other ideas? Any help would be much appreciated

    I have a 04 Jetta TDI that i bought with a blown turbo. Just put the new turbo on it. Lil did I know i needed to clean the intercooler from the blown turbo leaving oil behind..The previous owner said he did clean it out after the turbo blew.. I took it for a test drive after letting it run in the driveway for 15-20 mins, i took it for a spin......Then it rev’s WAY up, white smoke engulfs the car... It wouldnt shut off.. It stopped after about 15-20 seconds which felt like an eternity.....Turbo works sometimes.. Its like its in limp mode.. no power! And makes a buzzing noise when it should be building boost..... I shut the car off turbo wrks for a mile or two?? Then it has no power again....

    • @tiberiusclaudiusnerogermanicis
      @tiberiusclaudiusnerogermanicis 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm guessing it went into a kind of diesel runaway situation. Revs would have went way way up and the turbo probably would over hear and you have damaged the oil seal. Possibly even the bearing. But the noise your talking about I'm assuming is a broken fin, probably on exhaust side.

    Hi! Thanks a lot for this. I just have one question and a moment of your time to check something. So, is this the same turbo as in VW Golf 5, 1.9tdi, year 2004?
    Lastly, this is my fault code for my car. Can you tell me if my turbo has gone. Thank you!

    I got a 2017 golf mk7,I added a plug and play racechip on my car that was for my car,it was new and unused,wen ever I drive my car with this plug and play chip,it over boost and goes in to limp mode,but wen the chip isn’t on my car it drives fine,you think it’s the chip it’s self
