  • I am growing New Mexico hatch chiles again this year in 10-gallon grow bags. New Mexico hatch chiles are one of the most sought-after chiles in the Fall here in Texas. People go crazy for them, and you won't find any store in our area that is either roasted them or selling them roasted. I had great success last year with growing my New Mexico hatch chiles in grow bags. I learned a lot along the way, and I thought I shared that all with you in this video. #hatchchili #hatchchiles #chilies #growchilies #growhatchchiles #containergardeing #platetopatio #wheretheyocalsgrow

Moved to New Mexico and this is my 1st year growing hatch Chilis. Have a couple super hots and a couple mild. Hoping it goes well. I did mix in some of the sand from out here instead of perlite. But im hoping for a big harvest and can't wait to roast them 😋

Yummmm, I’ve never used sand, so I am interested to hear about how it goes.

    N. TX Arlington as well. I will be trying to grow Hatch from seed for the first time. Have you tried overwintering indoors? Curious if pruning and moving back out in late spring would allow to fruit faster. Personal eater but put in almost everything. Great video, thank you for providing.

Hello, thank you for the sweet comment. Yes, I did overwinter 1 of my Hatch Chilies last year. I chose it because it had created a "Y" branching towards the base. I topped it there. I have pruned and over wintered other types of peppers. It seemed logical to try the hatch chili the same way.
kept it in my greenhouse until March. It had already started growing new branches all nice and bushy. A wind storm tore my green house in the night, kicked the breaker and everything froze in it. Unfortunately my Hatch Chili did as well. But I am going to try again this year.
Mine are just starting to fruit. It was the same last season. They had peppers all over them until our first frost.

Yes, they get HUGE! I wish TH-cam allowed pictures via messages. I could post a picture of them. You can see them on garden tours of 2022. I believe I have a play list. I’ve never had a problem with growing two in 10 gallon grow bags. I also grow them in partial shade sometimes a little more than partial shade depending on whether the pecan tree is loaded with pecans. They both were always huge plants that were very fruitful.

@@jeffdickerson2744 no, not with this crazy hot Texas sun. I keep them in partial shade. They just do better. I learned that lesson last year with them. They get about 4 to 5 hrs morning sun and afternoon shade.
