How to Fly Fish for BLUEGILL [4K]

- Fly fishing for bluegill is one of the easiest ways to enter the world of fly fishing! While perfection is not key I put together some tips and tricks for bluegill fly fishing. Fly fishing panfish is going to take light tackle, so a 3 wt fly rod works best for me. A 5 wt fly rod would work good as well. You will want your tippet to be in the 5x to 7x range. While bluegill may not be super line shy you still will benefit from near invisible line. In this video I am fly fishing bluegill using a size 14 Adam's fly (dry fly).

@@londonlocks1 awesome! Thanks for watching!
I don't get many missed strikes. After the hit , I give them a slight pause, similar to bass on top water. This gives them a chance to turn before hook set. Give it a try. I've been using a fly rod since I was 12. That's 65 years ! 😆
That's a great piece of advice! I will have to practice not reacting right when it hits. It's one of those bad habits I picked up and have been working on getting rid of. Thank you for the suggestion!
I agree about the littering. I try to remember to bring a bag to put the various trash folks leave.
I started keeping a grabber tool in my car to pick up trash at the local ponds when I go. I'm trying to teach my kids how it's good to leave the places we love to visit a little bit cleaner than we found it. Even if it is just some string or a few cans
Now go fishing, looking at the beautiful river scenery
Very awesome
Good afternoon 👉🔔
Thank you for watching!
Nice spot Fishing, Great catch Fish with Fly Fishing
Thank you very much!
Helpful, thank you!
I just use a cork floating fly on about 4# test. I caught about 30 today. With the floating fly I can see the fly easier and whether it has the rubber legs or not, they hit it. The warmouth usually inhale it and needle nose and forsib end up destroying the fly. I found using a small flat screwdriver with a notch filed into the tip that you can fit inside the hook and putting tension on my line allows me to easily extract the bait. Also bending the barb back onto the shank on the bait makes for easier hook removal.
These are some awesome tips! I love fishing with the poppers. Thanks for all the great ideas
Cool video. You’re getting better at fly fishing 🪰
Thank you! I've definitely fallen in love with fly fishing.
I can't believe that bluegill live in fast-flowing water like that. I always assumed they only lived in stillwater ponds and lakes.
I've been lucky enough to catch them in fast shallow rivers, deep still ponds and everywhere in-between. If there is some form of cover and good oxygen you can usually find them.
Buckets of fish indeed, well done.
Absolutely!
Dude I just saw your video of getting stuck in a front with the kayak. Holy crap that gets scary when wind and waves come in quick. Glad you are alright!
@@KissTheFish Thanks, learned a lesson to not be that far out alone. It was a crazy day.
Yooo, I love fly fishing for bluegill! I've made a few videos about it too! dope video man🙏
Thanks for watching man! It is fun! Can always count on some good action too!
I just got the moonshine 5 weight revival and I want the 3 weight 2 but I'm probably going to go conventional graphite instead of glass because I found one cheap.
I hope you enjoy it! I'm actually thinking about getting a 1 weight or 0 for bluegill fishing and native Brook trout
That looks like it would be fun I don’t fly fish but I would like that
It's a really good time! My favorite thing is that you feel EVERYTHING because you hand line the fish in
When you are casting on the forward motion are you letting the line go in your left hand or are you holding it tight
So because I started fishing here before I started filming i already have line out of the reel and i know how far to cast. In order to cast the line the distance of what i have pulled out I am doing a small haul which is pulling the line to basically power up the cast more than just using the rod. The line is slipping through my fingers but I'm controlling it to land where I want. On the final cast I used to let go and let it fly but these days I keep fingers around (like a circle with 2 fingers) the line to maintain line control. Otherwise it wraps around the base of the rod. If you want to see some cool stuff search how to "double haul" (the one with Flip Pallot.) It changed everything I know about casting.
@@KissTheFish thanks a lot man I appreciate the reply! That's great info, I'm new to fly fishing and I'm teaching myself. I have been watching a lot of videos, I just subscribed to your account, thanks for the tip.
@@Marcus_918 good luck to you! It can be a little frustrating at first but once you get on a couple of fish there's no go back hahaha
