I am a BJJ practitioner that recently started judo, I find your videos extremely informative and appreciate your enthusiasm for grappling as a whole. I've been working to grasp Uki Goshi recently and would appreciate to hear your take on it in your future videos.

Thanks so much Nicolas! Riki sensei just happened to give us a great class on uki-goshi five nights ago, so that'll be coming in the next few weeks. We have a few other videos that are almost ready to publish too...stay tuned!

Hello, it's wonderful to see you posting a new video. It has been awhile and you have been greatly missed.
Another magnificent Shime-waza, Kata-ha-jime. Powerful sttangle that can be done even without a gi by anchoring the strangling arm on the wing-securing arm like a figure 4 Hadaka-jime.
I took note of Sensei's comment at the end about preferring Nage-waza. I agree. My mental orientation has always been applicability in a real fight, not just sport. A throw can end it all quickly, especially on a hard surface. Newaza is useful and effective to be sure, but should be a last resort if you find yourself taken to the ground, in my opinion. Going to the ground willingly is risky, especially in a real fight where you are likely to be dealing with more than one opponent.
Many thanks, and great to have you back!

Thanks so much Jun, it's good to be back! I've allowed myself to be distracted by some other projects, but am freshly reinvigorated to complete all the videos I have in mind. Riki sensei showed us all sorts of stuff in the last few months, and I've been mostly finished with several videos, but haven't gotten them past the finish line. Until now! Stay tuned, hiza-guruma will be ready later this week!

Shimewaza is becoming a fascination of mine, far more than kansetsu waza ever was
