    First I used a rotary tool with a cutting wheel to cut the transponder out from the fob housing. Was going to sand it down but this method made me avoid sanding and just used a heat gun and pocket flat head and tweezers. This was the missing link, thanks for the effective route!

    Much better method than the other videos where they struggle for 10 or so minutes and end up cracking the case in half to get the transponder out. Thanks for posting.

    Followed a variation on this and worked great! Most hot glues start to melt at around 250F so I set the heat gun to that and placed it stationary on it's stand. I then wrapped the blade of the doner key in a dozen or more looser turns of masking tape and squeezed it down loosely to make an insulated handle. This way no gloves required and really safe to handle. I then then gently heated the back and sides with the gun and after about 1 min started to take off the heat and tease up with jewelers screwdriver and put back on the heat for 30 sec. Repeat. I also used a dental pick to clean/loosen the sides. After around 4 or 5 heat cycles eased it out like a charm.

    Thanks for the video. Didn’t have a heat gun so I used a lighter. Needed to be extra careful but it worked. Appreciate you!
    Edit: I should clarify and say that I didn’t need to save the case and yes the case was slightly damaged when I used a lighter. Still MUCH easier than cutting and I wouldn’t have thought of it unless i came across this vid :-)

      Thanks for saying the lighter worked. I had a candle lit in the house, so I used that (holding the chip housing with pliers) and it took about 10 seconds to melt the glue enough that I could use the tiny flathead to remove!

    Very helpful, thank you so much! I would recommend using 'Museum Wax' to stick it back on the new key fob. Museum wax is removable and sticks lightly. It is used to give some grip to art objects placed on a shelf so they don't fall off easily. Cheap, no residue to remove, take in and out easily.

    This technique worked perfectly with me. I didn't have to broke the original key fob and just taked out the sensor, I hope I just didn't fry it x) but I confirm this it's and excellent trick.

    Ok an addition to my post below two days ago. I just received an aftermarket case for $7. The front half with the immobilizer chip snapped right onto my factory chip back part perfectly and just as tight. I removed the chip using the heat gun and it worked to remove. Since the original factory one I got for $20 I no longer needed I checked to see about removing the factory blade. It is not removable without damaging the plastic. That leaves it unable to house a new one without a lot of glue work. The blade will never be as well fitted and will probably loosen with time too. New front comes with new blank blade.

      You cut/copy the blade on the key to match the original blade since you have the chip most important piece already.

    I bought a 2015 Corolla that uses that same remote but came with only one key. I wanted an original factory remote so I bought one for $20 on eBay. I want to know how to remove the key blade to put a blank one in its place and then program that key/transponder/remote to use with my car. It almost looks like the only way to remove the old blade is by breaking plastic. Maybe heat will do it too? I doubt it. Do you still have that old case to check?

      You can’t remove the key blade without ruining the remote part you’ll need to get another blank or go with flip remote fon and then you can transfer your blade hat way. And no need to reprogram if you just remove the chip.

    Is there any reasonable way of getting the Key blade out of the shell? On a real car, not a Toyota but same exact style fob.

    how is this little "chip" programmable without a battery?..

    • @jamescc2010
      @jamescc2010  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chip doesn’t depend on the battery the battery is used for remote buttons.

      The ignition barrel charges the chip with electromagnetic waves which makes it emit a signal, which can be decoded by a receiver in the barrel.
