Wish I saw your video before I installed my 3rd brake light. I had such a hard time with those mounting bolts. Lost several of them and couldn’t retrieve them. Took me hours to install. 🤦🏻, but the light itself is pretty nice.

You're right it does look good and doesn't seem to bad to change. I just put led bulbs in stock light and bought a smoked cover for it.

Great video. I did this over the weekend and here are my tips and thoughts. If you have a double cab with the sliding center window this install is MUCH harder. It's worth it to drop the whole back half of the liner so you can get at the nuts on the back of the light easier. Even with the liner dropped you can not see the nuts and you have to do it by feel. Having said that, wear gloves. The edge of the liner is sharp and will cut and scrape the back of your hands. Ask me how I know that. Tighten the nuts as much as possible with your fingers because getting the ratchet up there and fitted onto the nut is a serious pain. Also tape up the light or have someone hold it against the cab and start the nuts from inside the cab because it will fall down and the posts stick straight up when that happens. I ended up using a snake drill extension to get the nuts tight because it was such a contortionist act to get the ratchet up there and still hold it tight against the nut.

Thank you for posting this video. It was easy to follow. I just replaced mine. Bought mine from Headlight Revolution. A bit more money but worth it in my opinion. The only part I struggled on was getting those damn flange nuts back in. I dropped one and lost it. Tried getting one from Lowe’s or home depot but no luck. Had to order them from the dealership. A little over $20.00 for 6. Smh. They came in yesterday and I was able to finish the project. Video was very helpful. Thanks again buddy

i just bought the same led third brake light off of amazon this week and i have the exactly the same tunnel cover as you have on your truck. i have a 2015 tundra.
If I push mine flush at the bottom, the top edge of the light sticks up past the roof line......so I pushed mine down flush with the roof line, but now there is a largish gap along the bottom edge. Does yours fit flush all the way around?
I just replaced my 08 with an original Toyota light,it is redesigned so no more leaking.
It took about ten minutes total on my double cab. I did slide the window open for a little more room and used a magnetic socket,I was able to pull the liner down enough without removing the panels,but its what I do for a living.
Looking at the video,it looks like you were fighting more with the plastic spring clip at the base of the center of the light than you were with the foam.
Also,if you drop a nut wait until the light is out to retrieve it from outside,it will either be right there to grab,or use a magnet to get it from the little channel below the light.

Yea I love the rear window, if it’s anything above 50 degrees that window is down and sunroof is open…haha…definitely made this job a lot easier too…let me know how ya make out, thanks for watching!
Did you leave the wax paper on the back of the gasket that goes against the truck? or peel it off exposing the sticky side. Great video and helped me a lot. Unfortuneately mine is not straight and I can't move it because of I exposed the sticky side of the gasket.

I was wondering i just bought the same brake light off eBay and installed it but when i saw the same light on amazon and saw the reviews it mentioned water leakage into the head liner and I really don't want that to happen to my truck so if you could give a long term update id really appreciate it!

You weren’t kidding that adhesive foam was a pain!!!! And I gotta be honest, I have the classic sliding rear window and wasn’t to bad dealing with the headliner. The toughest part was that dang foam.

There's probably an obviious answer to this question but I'm having a hard time figuring it out. I recently purchased a 2019 Toyota Tundra and it came with an LED High Mount light similar to this one you just installed. One side of the cargo lights has gone out and I'm trying to figure out if I'm going to have to replace the entire light or if it's possible to replace bulbs? It looks like im going to have to take the light off the way you did in the video as there doesn't appear to be a way to just remove the clear covering, so thank you for the video as it doesn't look as hard as I thought it would be.

Thanks man, I appreciate that!…I apologize, I didn’t see the other comment I’ll have to go back and look…I waited about 60 mins in between coats if I remember correctly…basically by the time I worked around the vehicle going panel by panel it would be time to start with the first panel again…I think they changed the recommendation for that particular ceramic now, but when I applied it that’s what the instructions called for…whatever coating you’re going with should tell ya though, they all do vary somewhat…let me know if I can help with anything else!

My 3rd break light has started leaking on my 2020 tundra sport. I replaced the seal less than 8 months ago. We just had a storm pass by, and there's a significant leak still. Was wondering if that aftermarket 3rd break light is still holding up and not leaking? I'm trying to decide whether to get an aftermarket or stick with the OEM. Thanks.

Hey!…very minimal issues with my cover, thankfully…mines a Powertrax XR, seals very well in the back…if it downpours I may get a little water running down the sides of tailgate but that’s about it… they do make tailgate seals to help…unfortunately I didn’t do a video on that install, I wish I did!… Thanks for watching!
That's a deep socket brother. That attaches to the ratchet. Very good video though. I'm about to put the same Think on my tundra. I was wondering about the old gasket in particular.

Thanks for showing the good, bad, and the ugly. I just put a Morimoto X3B on my 2017 Tundra 1794. Those nuts are not easy and there is a gap that I’ll have to fill with foam.

So could you run a wire from inside the cab through the brake light once you remove it? Thinking about running the wire for my rear dashcam here and mounting it on top of the brake assembly.
The hardest thing to do is, while reinstalling it, lining up the nut with the bolt blindly and not dropping it into the roof cavity or cross threading it.
I put this light on, but didn't make a video. Would have been all full of cussing anyway. Don't mind that little dent. Ugh. I don't like that I can't step on the brake and watch this light work, it's so cool. Always looking for other trucks with this. Never see any. Also traded puny fog light bulbs for 3-way LEDs. White, yellow, and blue. Leave the blue on all the time. Sweet.
When you installed, did it fit flush to the vehicle all the way around?

I know it's been a while but when you put the headliner back into place were you able to get the rubber seal to go over the edge of the headliner? I was not and not sure how much effort I should use. Is it even possible? It looks bad. Thanks
Hey buddy!...yea my headliner went right back to where it was, I did have to work it slightly but it wasn't bad at all...the rubber went over it without much trouble

Not happening... maybe because it's cold? There's a small gap between headliner and rubber seal.

Thanks man!…yea I was on the fence, I usually don’t like strobe option on any lights but for some reason this one grew on me real quick…with that said I do like the fact that it has a switch to turn it off, I’m sure that’s coming at some point when I get sick of it 🤣🤣

Currently in the middle of doing this on a double cab and I want to destroy the neighborhood here lol. Got 25 percent of the headliner pulled down and still can't really access those nuts. FML!

@NitroZ18 Fishing I'm on the backend now but ended up dropping the 2nd nut on the Install. Had to overnight a few from Lexus nearby just to make sure I got the right stuff. Hardware store was absolutely worthless matching them. Definitely a nightmare on the double. Be happy you have that power rear window! Thanks again for the video.

I wasn't able to push the headliner back behind the weather stripping. The headliner keeps coming out of the edge..:(

Yes sir, it’s a little brighter…the angle can be a little better, it’s aimed a little high but it still gets the job done

I just put mine on 😂 I dropped 2 nuts and the socket had to put tape on the next socket for them not to drop. Other than that the light is badass. I don’t really like how Toyota made it like that should be like the others take off 2 screws pull it out plug and put back simple as that these u have a little extra steps to do but other than that it’s pretty easy

Guess what i did replace the third brake light last weekend not bad at all just use a heat gun For the adhesive foam and you should be good to go

Im a bodyman, first off its ridiculous to have to r&i interior trim panels to remove a third brake light. No other makes do just the Chinese fucks or the fucks in San Antonio.
It's called a deep socket not a longer ratchet
