ARETHA, Singing AND playing the piano. A true musician.

Such was the case with Roberta Flack, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Isaac Hayes, Valerie Simpson and many others of that era. Not only did they use real instruments, they actually played them and combined them with the instrument of their voice! Please also listen to the version of this song by The Supremes!

@@ujimajame4601 You inspired me to listen to a few other versions (Supremes, Roberta Flack, Elvis, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash). I only liked Aretha, Simon & Garfunkel, and Johnny Cash, in that order.
I also admired singer-pianists Sarah Vaughn and Nina Simone, and of course, Ray Charles.

There is no bad version of this song. Aretha's version is one of the best covers of course. Love it. Such a powerful message.

Two great legends on one track no one could sing like The Queen and no one can make that organ talk like the great Billy Preston RIP to both💜💜

Satori, I'd like to see you react to a Luther Vandross and Aretha Franklin song called "Doctor's Orders." It's a New Jack Swing bopper that grooves and soothes! I think you'll enjoy it. I remember when Aretha and Luther were to perform the song live on the Grammy's but just after the musical intro, Aretha's dress popped open (a button fell off something) and she had to catch the dress so she wouldn't have her underwear exposed. Of course, they cut the live show to commercial and the song was never performed!

Satori, that's Ms. Franklin playing the tremolo in the intro.
